Not that desperate

January 31, 2021

No, I didn’t watch the Senior Bowl.

But in 2021 I think I am not gonna be that baseball snob next month who says “I don’t watch spring training games”

John Krasinski on SNL tonight talked about his kids wishing he were on Paw Patrol instead. And can we have a moment to remember, or for those who didn’t know, that John McCain first went on SNL to impress his then teenage daughter Meghan?

My late mother didn’t like “swear words,” nor my snarky attitude. But Mom was a Democrat. And in from her late 60s until dementia symptoms appeared in her 70s she worked proudly at in the bakery at Publix. Where she drove me crazy excusing the fact they routinely scheduled her JUST below minimum weekly hours needed to get benefits. But now that it comes out Publix heiress funded the January 6 coup attempt? Thinking even Mom would join me now in rousing chorus of “F*ck Publix!

Apparently Biden administration can’t find 8,700 ventilators that previous White House reportedly “donated” to other nations. Maybe because some recipients paid cash?

Anti-vaxxers temporarily shut down Dodger Stadium vaccine site today…. Proving again, that the right doesn’t have a monopoly on crazy.

If you’re going to be an an anti-science anti-Vaxxer can you at least sign something that says if you get sick you don’t want to be admitted to the hospital?

As Biden administration works to reunite separated children with their families, have to wonder, how many of the younger children have been adopted? Have been getting “Tennessee Children’s Home Society” vibes on this one from the get-go.

As GOP dismisses insurrection incitement by a sitting POTUS, I’m so old I remember when Republicans wanted to disqualify Obama from being President simply because Barack had formerly attended a church with a preacher who had made incendiary statements

“How many deaths will it take ’til he knows That too many people have died?” Seems to be a question GOP couldn’t answer in the 60s – or now, with both COVID and the Capitol coup attempt.

Even Charles Manson ended up having an easier time finding lawyers than Velveeta Voldemort.

January 30, 2021

Many of us have reached new levels of desperation in looking for entertainment during this pandemic. But proud to report at least I have no regrets that this Sunday we don’t have viewing option of NFL Pro Bowl.

But late January is a tough time for sports now. Spring training at least several weeks away, only one NFL game to got, and 50 games or more until the end of the NBA regular season.

Anyone still doing curling?

Since it will be cold and snowy in DC this would be a fine weekend for Joe Biden & Dr Biden to visit a shelter in DC area and meet some potential White House cats.

Dear Media: If you want to keep covering the number of Joe Biden’s Executive Orders can you say in real time how many of them are simply to reverse Velveeta Voldemort’s Executive Orders? Thank you.

Andrew Yang, being asked why he hasn’t voted in many NY mayoral elections ” I think I’m one of a large number of New Yorkers who perhaps didn’t have very strong allegiances one way or another to a candidate” after the primaries.”

Uh, Mr. Yang, that’s not the point of voting….

So we’ll really know Jewish Space Lasers are a thing when speculators start buying them all up and reselling them for a profit on Ebay.

Or when Jewish Space Lasers figure in a reality show competition….

Marjorie Taylor Greene in today’s angry statement attacked Silicon Valley Cartel” trying to “cancel us”” At same time she posted her rant on Twitter, a social media site created & run by the “Silicon Valley Cartel.” Which is allowing her, so far, to keep her account.

Texas Senator John Cornyn of Texas, arguing against impeachment “I think he’s been held accountable in the court of public opinion already.” ALMOST makes Susan Collins’ “I think he’s learned his lesson” look good by comparison.

Lindsey Graham begged Senate Dems not to call ‘QAnon Shaman’ as witness “Cannot think of better way to turn upcoming impeachment trial into complete circus.”

Got it. We can move on from fatal insurrection intending multiple assassinations but GOP draws line at circuses?

Tonight Rachel Maddow did a piece about the on guy photographed w/ feet on Pelosi’s desk. He had a stun gun on him. There were two reported incidents of him this year threatening people with a gun. Butt Arkansas police don’t consider him a threat. And allowed him to set a time and date to surrender once he returned, giving him time, as he bragged, to clean his home.

And we wonder why Sarah Huckabee Sanders thinks she can be elected in Arkansas.

One of many reasons I’d like to see our first woman Senate Majority leader is no doubt because our first woman Speaker has done such an incredible job with the House. #herdingcats

As scary as Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene are, sometimes I think it’s scarier to wonder… who in Congress has the same views, but is smart enough to keep their connections with domestic terrorists quiet?

Says all you need to know about today’s GOP that more of them are condemning Mitt Romney and Cindy McCain than are condemning Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Needle and no damage done.

January 29, 2021

Gregg Popovich, who just turned 72 Thursday, happens to be the only NBA coach (I think) eligible for an early COVID vaccine. “Sciencewise, it’s a no-brainer. It’s the right thing to do so we can all get on track again.”

Shame if we had to elect a coach to the Senate it had to be Tuberville and not Pop.

Recent Kaiser Family Foundation polling found 71% of Californians want a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as one is available. Compared to 47% of Americans in general. If COVID weren’t ultimate expression “of no man is an island” I’d tell other states fine, send California your extras.

Of course this will change. But based on team play in the last week or so, the NBA finals could be between the Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers. Which would be great news. For the ratings of Major League Baseball.

Rachel #Maddow talking about “Friday eve,” and Lawrence O’Donnell talks about how “the weekend is in sight.” It’s only been a week but President Joe Biden has brought back weekends.

Guess I’m a bit behind here…. Is Jewish Space Laser a band or a video game?

I think maybe they sell them in the Kosher section of Star Wars stores? This is very confusing.-

(Or was this an old SNL skit? Andy Samberg and Bill Hader ARE Jewish – #LaserCats)

GOP complaining Alejandro Mayorkas hasn’t been “properly vetted” to be Joe Biden’s secretary of Homeland Security & needs additional hearings. So in Republican world a cabinet post needs all kinds of time but lifetime #SCOTUS judge can be done in four days. Got it.

Gym Jordan says he will NOT run for Rob Portman’s Senate seat. He “believes at this time he’s better suited to represent Ohioans in House of Representatives, where “he can promote conservative values & hold big govt accountable” Translation, even McConnell thinks Jordan’s crazy.

Now when Marjorie Taylor Greene appears on the House floor she wears a mask that says “Censored.” Uh, Rep. Greene, you know who has really been censored? About 430,000 Americans. Permanently.

So if Marjorie Taylor Greene had posted a picture of herself jokingly putting her hands over a man’s buttocks would GOP be willing to consider expelling her?

There are Republicans who wanted to remove Bill Clinton from office for a consensual sexual relationship who have no problem supporting Marjorie Taylor Greene for social media posts that supported killing Bill’s wife Hillary.

On Stephen Colbert , Jackie Speier, who was shot along with her assassinated boss Leo Ryan at Jonestown in 1978, talked about hearing shot fired, lying on House gallery floor & thinking 42 years later she was in danger of losing her life again. IN THE US CAPITOL! We can’t just “Move On”

Food for thought.

January 28, 2021

Barry Bonds, volunteering at Second Harvest where he has been a big donor in SF Bay Area, was asked about MLB Hall of Fame. .He shrugged it off. “I’m not that important, this is way more important than the Hall of Fame right now.”-Suppose it could be an act, but Barry Bonds IS being a class act.

As we head to the end of January and close to a year living with the pandemic, a number of canceled sporting events we’re really missing right now.

One of them is NOT the Pro Bowl.

Again, Vegas over-under for wins for San Antonio Spurs in 2020-21 was 28 out of 72 games. Tonight the Spurs, 10-8, beat the Boston Celtics 110-106.

Hard to imagine there isn’t a team in NBA Gregg Popovich couldn’t coach to 29 wins.

OK, the Wizards would be a challenge.

So with this Gamestop thing, are Beanie Babies involved?

RIP Cloris Leachman. Will horses be whinnying loudly in heaven tonight? #FrauBlucher #YoungFrankenstein

Marsha Blackburn criticized President Biden for signing 30 executive orders in three days – saying “you can’t govern with a pen and a phone.” Gosh, for two years in the Senate she had no problem with a President governing by tweet.

As DHS warns Americans about potential violence by domestic extremists can our country start working on dealing with how they were radicalized?

And how long until talking about stolen elections and Q-Anon on airplanes and in public becomes at least as worthy of attention from law enforcement as talking Arabic?

What is Kevin McCarthy doing travelling down to Mar-A-Lago to meet with a man facing possible criminal indictment for inciting a fatal insurrection?

(Was McCarthy summoned by the ex-president. Or ordered to go by Putin?)

Anyone still trying to make excuses for Velveeta Voldemort perhaps has not read the story of Henry II and Becket: 2021 version “Will no one rid me of this meddlesome VP and congress?”

A surprising number of Republicans, about 50%, still support Velveeta Voldemort. So will that number hold? Or is this like the first week out of an abusive relationship, where the gaslighting is still too fresh to see reality?

Reminder for those who have forgotten why “Move On” became phrase back in Clinton days. It was “Censure & Move On” – about consensual but inappropriate adult sexual relationship. Not quite same thing as a fatal insurrection where assassination was in some of the mob’s game plan.

Turned on White House briefing and there are actually adults on stage speaking in complete sentences and answering questions. What a concept.

Yes, President Joe Biden hasn’t fixed everything in a week. But we have actually heard, multiple times, from the White House about Russian bounties on U.S. troops!

Wait, Joe Biden has been in office a full week and he hasn’t fired anyone he hired yet? How can Joe call himself a President?

HOF Strikeouts

January 27, 2021

“No candidate reached the necessary 75% required for 2021 Baseball Hall of Fame induction.” So MLB just dodged a bullet with Curt Schilling.

Curt Schilling has asked to be removed from baseball writers’ HOF ballot next year. Is he going to try to be inducted into the Parler Hall of Fame?

So have to ask those writers who insist no cheaters should ever be allowed in Baseball Hall of Fame, did they vote for Gaylord Perry?

Good point made on MLB Network…. “If Barry Bonds tore his ACL in 1998 and never played again he’d have been in Hall of Fame by now.”

Totals of MLB Hall of Fame voting showed him with 0.2%So somebody voted for Barry Zito!

Antonio Brown’s knee has healed and his civil trial for rape/sexual assault has been postponed, so he’s eligible to play in the Super Bowl. Of course had he done something terrible like be caught using marijuana Brown would still be suspended.

So will some of these GOP senators who think there is no need for this impeachment investigation since Velveeta Voldemort is out of office, please let me know why they didn’t speak up when House kept up endless investigations on Benghazi with former Secretary Hillary Clinton?

Asked about what Joe Biden thought about Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ run for Governor. ” Wow. How high is the Arkansas Republican Gubernatorial governor’s primary on the President’s list? Not high.” If you didn’t already love Jen Psaki.

President Biden’s new Press Secretary also added that she will not be running for Governor of Connecticut in future.

No joke, the Oregon Republican Party falsely calls U.S. Capitol riot a ‘false flag’ meant to ‘discredit President Trump. They’re nucking futs.

Nikki Haley was Governor during Charleston Church Massacre, one of worst days in South Carolina recent history. Many of insurrectionists at Capitol would have done as bad or worse had they reached members of Congress. And she still wants to give man who incited the mob a break?

I’m so old I remember when GOP claimed to be the “Law and Order” party.

All these GOP Senators playing the “private citizen” card. How long will it take them when SDNY indicts Velveeta Voldemort to play the “you can’t charge for past actions of a sitting President” card?

As moderate Democrat, going to keep writing about this: Sinema is to my right, so is Manchin. But they are liberal by standards of their purple to red states. Landrieu and McCaskill look damn good in retrospect by comparison to Kennedy and Hawley.

When will they ever learn?

January 26, 2021

Now we learn Tom Brady’s parents were hospitalized with COVID-19 last year. Glad they recovered. But then Brady showed how seriously he took close call by being only member of Bucs on postgame stage not wearing a mask. If you needed another reason to cheer for the Kansas City Chiefs..

Ohio Senator Rob Portman says he’s retiring and won’t run again in 2022.. Ok then, Alabama just elected a football coach with no experience as a Senator.

If sports celebrity matters… uh, Lebron James, what are you doing in 2022?

It’s January 26. Remember getting a text from my son while at dinner during a business trip to Ireland. And for a moment it seemed like the worst story of 2020 would be Kobe Bryant and his daughter dying in a helicopter crash.

As GOP is now doing the “they want to impeach a private citizen” talking point. Has it occurred to them that a private citizen would have been arrested within 24 hours for inciting an insurrection?

WTAF? Marco Rubio now calling the fatal January 6 insurrection a “national embarrassment,” but says many of the mob just “got caught up in the moment.” Yeah, I always carry zip ties in case I get caught up in a moment.

For those who need to know:

“Caught up in a moment” is something like flashing for beads at a Mardi Gras parade.

“Caught up in a moment” is not joining a mob for a fatal insurrection on our nation’s Capitol.

So when Twitter suspended Mike Lindell did they tell him to put a pillowcase in it?

Not quite used to WH Press Briefings where Press Secretary actually answers questions and doesn’t insult reporters.

As Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz now call for “unity” are they proposing all Americans be joined together with zip ties?

In his press briefing, President Biden talked about “eliminating the vitriol.” What a great concept. Although Joe had me at understanding and correctly using the word “vitriol.”

So would Marsha Blackburn, who likes to talk about empowering women in general, like to explain why she voted against Janet Yellen for Treasury Secretary? Yellen is only perhaps the most qualified of Joe Biden’s nominees on a bipartisan basis?

And Marco Rubio missed the vote. Was he looking up a distracting bible verse at the time?

Think I speak for many American women when I say we’d line up to buy any moisturizer that takes as many years off your face as the last week has taken off of Dr. Fauci’s.

It is snowing in Pasadena, California. Did Amy Klobuchar schedule a speech there or something?

Democrats need to remember something about bullies. They’re only bullies while they have power. Mitch McConnell doesn’t have power anymore.

Is it spring training yet?

January 25, 2021

Worst thing about this upcoming Super Bowl : Having to root again, for a team whose fans do “The Chop.”

“Kicking field goals on fourth and short near the goal line repeatedly against Patrick Mahomes is going to work really well” said no armchair football analyst ever.

Fans at Lambeau may have felt they were the “12th man” today. But they couldn’t compete with Tom Brady’s refs.

(Not that Green Bay didn’t put on a “what not to do for a potential hail mary” clinic… but yeah, “let them play” until they mess with St Tom.)

If you enter field of play during a MLB baseball game you will be arrested, fined, possibly spend night in jail, put on probation & definitely be banned from returning to stadium. So why should illegally entering U.S. Capitol during mob insurrection somehow be a lesser offense?

Joe Biden went to church Sunday morning in DC. On the way back his son Hunter wanted to stop for coffee and bagels. At “Call your Mother” deli. How long until we get to GOP screaming “But his bagels?

In semi-seriousness, since Alabama elected Tommy Tuberville if we’re going to get people like Sarah Huckabee Sanders running for Governor in Arkansas aren’t there ANY Democratic white male ex-football coaches or their daughters who want to run for office in the South?

(Of course, most of my friends along with me would follow Gregg Popovich anywhere.)

Anyone else REALLY tired of Republicans who act like they deserve a medal now just for saying “The election was not stolen?”

Press Secretary Jen Psaki acknowledges that the new Biden cat “is going to dominate the internet whenever it is announced and wherever the cat is found.”

As it should.

(Hint, Crumbs and Whiskers, a cat and kitten adoption cat/cafe is right around the corner from Joe’s new church.)

Godiva is closing all its North American stores, including one at Stanford Shopping Center. I live in Palo Alto and didn’t even remember Godiva HAD a store there. (Open note, See’s Candies is better anyway.)

Headline – “Growing number of GOP senators oppose impeachment trial.” So how high would the insurrection death toll have had to be before GOP would be in favor of it, and how many members of Congress would have have to be included?

Dr. Birx said in CBC interview POTUS presenting graphs about COVID she never made and claimed that someone was creating a parallel set of data to show to to Donald.

Uh, and she didn’t speak up at the time why?

So is Marco Rubio trying to be such a subservient sycophant in hopes that Princess Ivanka won’t run against him in 2022?

We finally got rid of the cheater.

So mornings now couldn’t feel sweeter.

Our new President TRIES,

Tells far fewer lies

And views job more than just being a Tweeter.

Now there were four.

January 24, 2021

Given the four teams remaining alive for the Super Bowl, apparently based on every poll I have seen, America’s team is now the Buffalo Bills.

In fact, thinking there are more Americans rooting for Buffalo than have ever been to Buffalo.

Josh Hawley claims he just did what constituents wanted in taking part in Jan 6 sedition. Hawley’s Stanford advisor was historian David M. Kennedy, Pulitzer winner “Freedom from Fear: American People through Depression & War 1929-45. Hawley knows about “just following orders.”

If you didn’t already love Cindy McCain, this tweet tonight after the Arizona GOP censured her for supporting Joe Biden “It is a high honor to be included in a group of Arizonans who have served our state and our nation so well…and who, like my late husband John, have been censured by the AZGOP. I’ll wear this as a badge of honor.”

Apparently 38 U.S. Capitol Police employees have tested positive for COVID-19 since January 6 & there are increasing cases amongst National Guard in DC. So besides everything else can we charge COVIDiot insurrectionists with reckless endangerment?

As FBI and DOJ begin to bring charges against those who were part of the insurrectionist mob that stormed the Capitol on January 6, wonder how GOP NOW feels about restoring voting rights to felons?

Just can’t stop thinking about how happy Dr. Fauci looked talking to Rachel Maddow last night.

RIP Larry King. Who else was surprised to read he was only 87?

Random thought… during a pandemic, pajamas never seem to go on sale.

While he had nothing to do with whatever happened, apparently President Joe Biden (love saying that) called the head of the National Guard to apologize for them having to sleep in garages. Anyone else who is so thankful to have a President who apologizes for ANYTHING?

Wait, Lauren Boebert is now complaining about fencing around the Capitol? Waiting for her to rewrite that Frost poem “Good firearms make good neighbors.”

Just wondering, if Kamala Harris shows up in a tan suit and a fancy watch will GOP heads explode?

January 23. Three days past the inauguration. And yes, “One day, like a miracle, “It” did go away.”

Games in heaven?

January 23, 2021

Damn…. 2021, couldn’t you let us have two good days? RIP Hank Aaron.

Wonder in baseball heaven tomorrow if Bob Gibson will be brushing back Henry Aaron with a pitch?

2021 is still a long way from normal. But we can maybe see normal from here now? Only 22 days until pitchers and catchers report!

Random observation, but at this point, thinking more fans across America are rooting for the Bills on Sunday than have ever been to Buffalo.

Dear President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden. Get that cat soon. Maybe two kittens. As mischievous as possible. Maybe one who claws drapes. Or at least sheds a lot. The media is bored and needs a new semi-scandal.

I do think in one day many in the media have written more about Joe’s Rolex than they have about Russian bounties on U.S troops.

Btw, I have a Rolex watch too. At least that’s what the kid in Beijing told me almost 20 years ago. “Best quality.” It cost me all of $10. Hope Joe didn’t overpay because my Seiko works better.

So NYTimes story about trying to replace acting AG dropped just two days after Inauguration Day. Imagine what’s going to come out between now and Feb 8 when the Senate trial starts?

Mitch McConnell is acting like an abuser whose victim suddenly gets hold of his gun and now is trying to get them to be reasonable.

Regarding the controversy about safety on the House floor: Science says masks work. But even if they aren’t 100%, a mask never killed anyone. Unlike a gun.

From the Colorado Sun, on Lauren Boebert – she was born Lauren Opal Roberts in Altamonte Springs, FL, (where I went to high school, sigh.) Moved to Colorado when she was 12. So on top of everything else, can we call her #FloridaWoman?

If you’re anti-choice but also anti-mask mandate you have forfeited all right to claim to be pro-life. Period.

WTAF? Lauren Boebert has introduced legislation that would prohibit a mask mandate on federal property “or while traveling in interstate commerce, and for other purposes.” Just another example of the so-called “pro-life” party trying to kill us.

Rachel Maddow asks Dr. Fauci why he hasn’t been on the show before. And he tells her that he wanted to, but that he was told not to do so. Part of her response – echoed by millions of Americans – “I’m happy to see the spring in your step and the light in your eyes.”

Really really hard hand slap.

January 22, 2021

NCAA put Notre Dame’s football program on one year’s probation for recruiting violations, including 7-day ban on off-campus recruiting & $5,000 fine. Notre Dame makes $22 million a year on TV contracts including $15 million from NBC. (Also probation does not include a bowl ban.)

NBA has been telling teams to isolate players with COVID-19 along with any close contacts. Now with only one player testing positive, the league has postponed three consecutive Memphis Grizzlies games.

The league says their protocols are evolving. Have to wonder…. would they have done the same if the Grizzlies were a team with several upcoming televised games?

LA Dodgers, with a 2021 Payroll approaching $200,000,000, are apparently interested in Trevor Bauer, who is hoping for an average $36 million a year contract.

And when they get done with Dodger Stadium for a COVID-19 vaccine site will they set up a loan center in the parking lot for fans who plan when they return to games to buy a few beers?

Dr. Anthony Fauci “One of the new things in this administration is that you just say you don’t know if that’s the case and do not start guessing.” Besides COVID-19, this is not a bad life hack.

Waiting for the Clorox ad now featuring some serious cleaning going on in the White House: “Clorox, it’s not for drinking anymore.”

It’s a whole new world. My son is grown but imagine how nice it must be for parents of younger children now – when the President of the United States comes on TV, you don’t have to change the channel.

Why is anyone surprised the previous administration had no COVID vaccine plan. Once the election was over, lack of a plan had to seem like a worthy punishment for a nation that didn’t vote for a 2nd term.

We’ll know Biden’s “federal pharmacy program” to have COVID vaccines available in local pharmacies will really be working when we all start getting those long strip of CVS coupons with our vaccines.

Meanwhile over at former State-TV- current Fox News website “C’mon, give me a break, man. Biden gets testy with reporter over vaccine rollout question.” “Testy?” Joe didn’t curse, insult the reporter, attack their height, gender, ethnicity etc…

Meanwhile, amidst all the hope – here’s state TV Fox News’ top headline “Unrest explodes across West as Biden sworn-in; clashes with police, attack on Dem Party offices.” As someone living in the “West,” uh, no.

Costco apparently won’t stop selling #MyPillow, at least through Feb. Company told SFGate: “We have contractual commitments to MyPillow we intend to honor, as we seek to do w/all of our suppliers.” Of course, “contractual commitments” don’t mean anyone will BUY the pillows.

So Kayleigh McEnany, is gone and today Joe Biden’s Press Secretary Jen Psaki had her second White House Press Briefing. So what’s the antonym for “A hard act to follow.”

Final numbers will vary but pretty clear that ratings for Joe Biden’s inauguration easily beat the ratings for his predecessor. Petty but lovely cherry on top would be if Amy Klobuchar & Roy Blunt, who put the program together, were jointly given an Emmy.

Stepping towards democracy.

January 21, 2021

Brittany Brees, wife of the Saints QB, wife, revealed today in an Instagram post that Drew was playing with a torn rotator cuff, a torn fascia, plus the 11 broken ribs and collapsed lung this season.

Just in case you were feeling too tired or old to get off the couch today.

NBA Wizards canceled their sixth straight game tonight due to COVID-19 cases and contact tracing. Now that we’ve detoxed the White House, looks like it’s time to get serious about trying to eliminate another virus in Washington.

ESPN reports Philip Rivers “is retiring from football, ending his 17-year career as one of the most prolific quarterbacks in NFL history.” In his announcement Rivers thanked his wife and NINE children. So “prolific” is a nice choice of words.

Buckingham Palace said that Queen Elizabeth II sent a private letter to Joe Biden. And wouldn’t we all love to know what it said.

Wonder what 45’s “generous” note to Joe Biden said? Maybe something like “Dear Loser, I didn’t burn the place down. You’re welcome.”

Joe Biden at Lincoln Memorial: “Humbling to stand here in this place in front of these sacred words. Humbling out of respect to President Lincoln & office we now share & humbling because of you, the American people.” Have we heard the word “humbling” in 4 years? I missed it.

But okay, Joe Biden has been President over 12 hour. Shouldn’t he have tweeted out a cat video by now?

Doesn’t it feel like 2021 started today?

Real winning!

January 20, 2021

Forget 21 gun salutes, those popping sounds you may hear tomorrow about 12:01pm could be 21 million champagne corks.

This morning on Morning Joe, Amy Klobuchar about Joe Biden going through with his public inaugural – “He’s not going to spend his presidency in a bunker because a mad angry mob was incited by this current president.” It’s going to be so great to have a leader again.

Remember when Trump ran in 2016. He told us up front he might not accept the election results if he lost. As Maya Angelou said -“When someone tells you who they are, believe them. The first time.”

I’m less frightened by the fact that 12 Army National Guard members (out of 25,000) were removed from inauguration duty, than if Army claimed they had an thorough investigation and said, Hah, we have zero potential problems in our ranks.

Despite the plagiarized speeches, Melania Trump will at least be remembered for one completely original statement: “Who gives a f*ck about Christmas?”

“The President of the United States pardoned a former Detroit mayor convicted of stealing $5 million from his city because Diamond and Silk told him to do it.” This is I think a sentence not a single journalist ever envisioned writing.

Lindsey Graham is the latest to say he won’t be attending Donald’s farewell ceremony. Will he be cleaning his closet?

Can’t wait until Mike Lindell can just go back to being known for making sh*tty pillows.

Tuesday morning, on Senate floor, Cory Booker was beautifully eulogizing Officer Brian Sicknick, who was killed by insurrectionists at the Capitol. Hoping there will be a video. Because this eulogy should be seen by people as often as the videos of the people behaving horribly that day.

So Velveeta Voldemort’s sendoff party he is throwing for himself (which will happen before anyone reads this) apparently has an optional “plus 5” invitation…. “Plus 5?” – puts an whole new spin on “polyamorous.”

Rachel Maddow talks about Donald “slinking out” out of the White House tomorrow at dawn. A long way from the trip down that 2015 golden escalator.

Jen Psaki is going to have press briefings every day. So those of us who have been going through withdrawal for real White House Press Briefings will no longer be forced to rely on C.J. Cregg in West Wing reruns.

Such a small mercy. But from this day forward OAN will no longer have a dispensation for a special pass to all White House Press conferences.

The Georgia runoffs feel like they were a year ago….

Now Josh Hawley has blocked quick consideration of Joe Biden’s DHS nominee Alejandro Mayorkas. Is Hawley afraid that a functioning Department of Homeland Security will start focusing on domestic threats including in Congress?

January 19, 2021

Watching football is supposed to be fun, right?

(Well, only silver lining of the Saints being out of the playoffs, it’s less stressful if you don’t care.)

New Mets GM Jared Porter acknowledges sending explicit images – unsolicited – to a female reporter when he worked for the Cubs.

Note to guys- don’t send unsolicited DPs.

Actually, note to guys – just don’t send DP’s period.

With the NBA, I’m a Spurs fan. If you want a big reason why, watch Spurs coach Gregg Popovich talk about Martin Luther King Jr.

Midnight thought: Probably only a problem for Anglophiles, but anyone else watching “The Crown” who knew how to pronounce Camilla (Cuh-MIL-la) Parker-Bowles’ name slipping up now because we’ve gotten used to Kamala (Comma-la)?

All reports indicate that Donald can’t even admit when he loses a round of golf. Why do some think he will ever admit losing the Presidency?

Realizing today, had Martin Luther King Jr. not been assassinated, today he would have only been 92 years old. (Younger than, for example Sidney Poitier, and of course, Betty White.)

Joe Biden & Dr. Biden volunteered at a food bank on MLK day of service. Thinking only time Donald would be interested in a food bank is if he thought one might give him a loan.

Have no problem vetting National Guard for the inaugural. Heck, as a waitress at Stanford Faculty Club in college I got vetted before I was allowed to serve Caspar Weinberger.

So Maddow says Trump doesn’t trust Pence to pardon him…. Gosh, who knew inciting your followers to hang your right-hand man might affect his potential loyalty.

Seriously, everything in the Capitol has CCTV and security systems. It’s pretty binary – did Lauren Boebert give a tour or not? (Pretty sure we know the answer.)

So Lindsay Graham, who licked Trump’s boots on a daily basis, and called Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger asking him to change votes, is blaming the Jan 6, insurrection on…. Nancy Pelosi? When McCain died he took Graham’s soul with him.

Took a quick look at Trump’s American Heroes statue garden list. Who’s gonna tell Donald that Ingrid Bergman was Swedish?

Rachel Maddow also reports that Donald is having an event at Joint Base Andrews at 8:00a on Inauguration Day, and that “so far, there haven’t been a lot of RSVP’s” Have to wonder if the prospect of the FBI attending to see who shows up has occurred to invitees.

Is it possible Melania Trump won’t invite Dr. Jill Biden for a walk-through of private living quarters on White House second and third floors, because Melania doesn’t spend enough time at the White House to know those rooms?

So when you buy a pardon from Donald Trump do you get a discount on a free COVID-19 vaccine?

If we want to give a last socially-distanced middle finger to Velveeta Voldemort, one very peaceful way to do it would be to give Joe Biden’s inaugural the highest ratings for a Presidential inauguration ever!

If you want to civilly argue politics with me I’m fine with that. If you want to disregard science and tell me masks don’t help stop the spread of COVID-19, well, then, I draw the line when stupidity puts lives at risk. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Young and old men.

Just pointing out that Baker Mayfield and Patrick Mahomes, opposing QBs for Browns-Chiefs game are TOGETHER only 50 years old. Only 8 years total more than Drew Brees, the youngster in Sundays Saints-Buccaneers matchup. #WhoDat

So in the two games since their big trade, Houston Rockets have beaten San Antonio Spurs, and then made a game of it today vs Spurs despite only having eight players. You’d almost think they weren’t too upset to see their superstar James Harden shipped out of town.

Happiest people watching Bills Ravens game going to half time tied 3-3. Anyone who bet the under. (49.5)

Sometimes the universe gives you a really hard act to follow. This will not be true for Pete Buttigieg with “Infrastructure Week.”

Now it’s California Democratic Rep. Lou Correa of California who has tested positive for Covid-19 after spending hours with GOP COVIDiots in lockdown. Correa will miss Joe Biden’s inaugural. In all seriousness can’t we charge these mask-mocking morons with reckless endangerment?

With so many Democratic members of Congress getting COVID-19 after being locked in room for hours Jan 6 with maskless morons, we KNOW at least one or more of those GOP reps also have COVID. But either they won’t get tested or won’t admit it. Because that would admit guilt.

So Press Secretary Barbie wants to spend more time lying to her family?

Ben Goldey, who was Lauren Boebert’s communication director for less than two weeks, has resigned. This is an exception to the axiom that a really short job stint can be a problem to explain on your resume.

Rep. Lauren Boebert needs another Communications director since hers quit after less than two weeks. Kayleigh McEnany is available.

ICYMI, in Secretary Azar’s resignation letter “Our remarkable response to the pandemic should not overshadow the many other successful efforts HHS has undertaken over the last three years.” Is self-delusion a REQUIREMENT to have joined Donald’s cabinet?

Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Theme Parks in Orlando has canceled Josh Hawley’s hate-fest weekend fundraiser. So how long until someone in GOP tries to reschedule at Portofino Landscaping in New Smyrna Beach, less than an hour away?

Btw, that fundraiser at the Portofino Bay Hotel was $1000 pp, or $5000 for up to a family of four for the weekend. But that was BEFORE actually paying for a room. And rooms at the Portofino Bay Hotel for that weekend start at over $600 a night including tax.

Economic anxiety my a**.

Even prosecutors said Dustin Higgs, executed on Trump’s orders, didn’t shoot anyone, but ordered his friend to kill victims. So what should be penalty for inciting armed mob? “If you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore we’re going to the Capitol.”

So if U.S. airlines are putting anyone who participated in the January 6 insurrection on a no-fly list, why are we allowing Trump to head home on Air Force One?

What used to be a weekend?

January 16, 2021

So little consistency now in this world. But after a 5-3 start, good to know that with 5 straight losses the NY Knicks have shown they are still the Knicks.

Seahawks WR Josh Gordon, who has been suspended repeatedly for marijuana & possibly other drugs, has been suspended indefinitely again after NFL rescinded his conditional reinstatement. If only Tom Brady needed another WR, Gordon might be starting Sunday.

You know it’s been a long pandemic when for the you’re irrationally thrilled because for the first time sincea about March 2020, Diet Orange Sunkist is back on the shelves. (Okay, now it’s “Zero Calorie Sunkist,” but whatever!)

My favorite trivia of the week: Last living president who skipped their successor’s swearing in? Andrew Johnson refused to attend the inaugural of Ulysses S. Grant in 1869 -following a failed impeachment that Grant had supported.

At this point there are so few rats left on the Trumptanic you’d almost think it was a special cruise for cats.

Anyone who reads mysteries is familiar with the “locked-room” concept where everyone is worried someone they know is a potential accomplice or even murderer. Didn’t expect this plot line to be playing out in the US Congress.

I’m so old I remember when Trump sycophants only left the White House when they were fired by tweet.

Is today’s bankruptcy announcement the first NRA statement that’s not about disavowing a mass shooting?

Lawyer for man arrested for throwing fire extinguishers at Capitol police – “He was not walking around with a six-foot spear, he was not physically attacking Capitol officers.” Right, and the officer who died after the attack was only hit with a…. fire extinguisher. WTAF?

Does anyone doubt that had the mob actually killed a member of Congress, Donald would have pretended sorrow but cheerfully used it as an excuse to declare martial law and keep himself in power? Scary to say, he might even have intended that.

So sounds like Ted Cruz will exercise his right to attend Joe Biden’s inauguration. Since we probably can’t stop him, is there a port a-potty near the stage, and can Inaugural Chairs Roy Blunt & Amy Klobuchar make sure Ted’s seated behind it?

After Joe Biden is sworn in & when during impeachment trial GOP Senators try to gaslight us as to Donald’s culpability in inciting mob on Jan 6, remember this Orwell quote: “Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.”

More biggest losers

January 15, 2021

Houston finally got rid of disgruntled prima donna James Harden. And for tonight’s game against 6-5 San Antonio, the 3-6 Rockets only had nine available players, with a combined salary of $34.9 million, while Harden was making $40 million. And they beat the Spurs.

(While I’m a big Spurs fan, have to admit, imagining Harden’s face makes the loss a little less hard to take.)

There’s a lot of competition for the “Dumbest Senator in Washington, D.C.” title but in less than two weeks I think we might be able to declare ex-football coach Tommy Tuberville the winner.

(Tuberville Thursday suggested that we just delay Biden’s inaugural until we get the virus a little more under control. Last month he talked about the three branches of government – “You know, the House, the Senate, and the executive.”)

Actually, there are several competitors for “Dumbest Senator in Washington, D.C.” – But Tuberville definitely should have a lock on “Rookie of the Year.”

Got a Democratic fundraising email “Sign our petition so we can get 25,000 signatures to get Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz to resign.” Seriously folks? You could get 25 MILLION signatures and those a**holes aren’t resigning. Got to vote them out or (we can dream) expel them.

So Tampa Bay got Tom Brady, Jacksonville will get Urban Meyer, and Palm Beach gets Donald Trump. What is it about a**holes ending up in Florida?.

Meanwhile over on State TV….Over 200 suspects and over 100 arrests from last week’s fatal insurrection. Fox News Headline “Left-wing activist who told Fox News he was at Capitol riot to ‘document’ arrested, charged.” And we wonder how people get brainwashed.

You know, not that I would necessarily believe them but it would help if all these Republican remembers of sedition caucus calling for “unity” and “healing” would preface it with “In order for duly-elected President Joe Biden to get off to the best possible start…”

CNN – “Melania Trump has spent the last weeks operating inside a gray area.” Does this mean her hairdresser quit too and she has issues with her roots? Meow.

Maybe all these people and cities who are owed money by Trump ought to consider hiring Stormy Davis as a consultant. She’s the only one Donald who actually paid after he scr*wed them.

One of the arrested Capitol mob today “In the moment I thought I was doing the right thing.” That excuse doesn’t even get you out of a DUI let along a fatal insurrection.

As NYC severs ties with Donald including Central Park ice rinks & the carousel, how long until we view Trump Tower like Villa Torlonia, the Rome home of the Mussolini family?

Washington Post reports “Workers seen hanging blue “2021 Biden Harris Inauguration” banners just outside White House gates in advance of next week’s festivities. Some of signage was clearly visible from inside White House. ” Can they put some of the banners FACING White House?

Delta Air Lines has put 880 people on its no-fly list from the insurrection in DC last week and for bad behavior during the pandemic. Now can they do Eric, Don Jr. and Ivanka and keep them off the NY to DC shuttle?

You know when you leave Costco, and they have have people check what’s in your cart against your receipts? That’s what Secret Service should be doing with Trump family moving boxes to check what they’re taking from the White House.

Off the line.

January 14, 2021

Green Bay took advantage of a loophole with NFL COVID-19 “practice squad” rules to sign OT Jared Veldheer, who just played for the Colts last weekend, to play for them this weekend against the Rams. Except now Veldheer himself has tested positive. Maybe mean bitch Karma is following the NFL playoffs.

Harden, Irving and Durant on the same team? Yes, they are all NBA stars. And I really like Steve Nash. But really hope his insurance has good mental health coverage.

Back in college, Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger spoke at a Stanford Faculty Club dinner. As a waitress that night I had to give personal information two weeks in advance & go through a more careful security check than some of these pro-insurrection GOP Members of Congress.

If Mitch McConnell had another right-wing judge he desperately wanted to ram through you betcha he’d find a way to reconvene the Senate before January 19.

Who ever thought we’d live to see the day when Rep. Steny Hoyer would be quoting Liz Cheney?

I missed all these GOP calls for unity and healing BEFORE January 6.

Lauren Boebert is proof that women politicians can be as equally horrible as men. Period.

Bit of trivia “On July 17, 1970, New Orleans Airport (MSY) became 1st airport to use magnetometers to detect weapons—or anything made of metal. So Lauren Boebert, 34, has never taken a commercial fight in her life w/o a metal detector. And she’s throwing a tantrum in Capitol?

Groundhog Day was much more fun when it was a movie and not a well-justified impeachment vote.

We KNOW Donald didn’t write his video statement today. He called it COVID-19 and not the “China Virus.”

We have the TSA due to 9-11 terrorists. We have to take off our footwear due to the Shoe Bomber. And in future we’ll have to go through incredible security to visit the Capitol due to Donald Trump.

Well, if nothing else Donald’s “Trump” brand has now eclipsed “New Coke” as the best known brand failure in U.S history.

Now it’s Rudy Giuliani who Donald is upset with and saying he won’t pay. Truly amazing that the buses can run in DC with all the people Velveeta Voldemort has thrown under them.

Is there anyone willing to defend Donald at this point who isn’t a complete and total a**hole?

Switching gears?

January 13, 2021

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers says he’ll be a ‘Jeopardy!’ guest host. I’m sure both Rams and Saints fans would be fine if he started taping this weekend.

Kyrie Irving may be prohibiting from playing in NBA for a while as videos have emerged of him unmasked reportedly at a family birthday party. So the Brooklyn Nets star who believes the earth is flat doesn’t believe in science either? I am shocked, shocked.

Gym Jordan is ignoring what happened last week at the Capitol as if the rioters just abused college wrestlers.

How did we get to a world where I’m agreeing with Bill Belichick and Liz Cheney in the same 24 hours?

I’m so old I remember that the worst President I could imagine was a Cheney.

So if the mob Trump incited only got so far as to accost Pence and put him in zip tie handcuffs, but not actually taken him to those gallows, would the VP still be defending his boss?

-Rachel Maddow tonight keeps talking about the fatal mob attack on the Capitol asking “Mr. President, did you think it would work?” And the obvious but frightening answer. “YES! He did.”

Hillary’s actual quote from 2016 “You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables.” And thinking, for those still supporting Donald, I’d say only “half” is generous.

I have many issues with Joe Manchin, but in West Virginia if he were to leave his (GOP) replacement would be much worse. Remember Louisiana. Went from conservative Democrat Mary Landrieu to John Kennedy (one of the Seditious Six Senators.). Big tents are messy.

Meanwhile, while the soon to be former occupant of the White House remains silent, Washington Post now reports over 4,200 deaths today. Uh, this is not exactly how it should have gone that “You won’t hear more about COVID-19 after November 3.”

You can either go down in history as a patriot or a p***y

Bronze those medals.

January 12, 2021

All the awful things Donald has done and now I have to add the trivial “Make me grudgingly say ANYTHING nice about the cheating Patriots’ head coach…” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick says he’s turning down Trump’s Medal of Freedom.

So is Velveeta Voldemort going to try to get Tom Brady next to accept that slightly tainted Presidential Medal of Freedom?

As a college football fan who boycotted season because I didn’t think they should have played, would have nonetheless felt a bit wistful if I missed watching a great playoff game. Fortunately that didn’t happen. Margins of victory were 17 & 21 points in semis, 28 points tonight.

On Saturday, after the fatal insurrection at the Capitol, Kentucky basketball players and coach John Calipari knelt on the sideline before their game to protest social injustice.

And they were attacked on social media, one sheriff in the state burned Final Four commemorative t-shirts and some local politicians called for the University to be defunded.

Again, AFTER the mob stormed our Capitol. And we wonder how the state re-elected Mitch McConnell?

So Rep. Lauren Boebert has made a big deal out of carrying a Glock for protection in the Capitol. Somehow I missed the pictures of her using that Glock to try to help protect her colleagues against the mob during the insurrection on January 6?

Meanwhile, this sounds like something Belichick would dream up… and get away with: Jared Veldneer started for the Colts Saturday against the Bills, now due to some unusual COVID-19 restrictions (he was officially on the practice squad although he played,) Veldneer has been signed by the Packers and will play THIS Sunday in Green Bay.

The Eagles have fired coach Doug Pederson. He is available for any team looking to tank 2021 season for the top 2022 NFL draft pick.

Now three gorillas at San Diego Zoo have tested positive for COVID-19. Don’t throw out those batsh*t bingo cards.

It takes about 10 days for COVID-19 vaccines to start taking effect. As two House Representatives already tested positive thanks to unmasked COVIDiots with them in lockdown, that decision to vaccinate all members of Congress is looking better and better.

So Pence doesn’t think Donald has been unstable enough for 25th Amendment. If Trump’s mob had succeeded in injuring a member of Congress would that have been sufficient? Or would it have had to be murder? Or many murders? Asking for a country that is really tired of this sh*t.

“They were hunting for lawmakers of both parties.” Ted Lieu on Rachel Maddow: Yes, the mob had top targets, but does anyone think they wouldn’t have attacked any member of Congress they didn’t recognize as part of their sedition caucus?

CNN reports Donald does not think he should be blamed for the violence at his mob insurrection at the Capitol. Uh, has Trump ever accepted blame for ANYTHING?

John Kasich says he’s glad that other Republicans have come on board in condemning Trump, but “we shouldn’t give medals to those who jump off the ship just before it hits the rocks.”

One Capitol police officer has been arrested and two suspended. Can you say “tip of the iceberg?”

Now close to 100 arrests for the coup attempt. As a former student of history in college, one thing I know that generally happens after insurrections – they arrest the LEADER if they can find him! Pretty sure we know where Donald is.

So at least with the bans, Twitter hopes not to be known in future as the place where domestic terrorists are radicalized.

Battle for the Aged.

January 11, 2021

Buccaneers vs. Saints will be the late playoff game next Sunday night, starting 640p on the East Coast. Brady 43, against Brees, 42.

So a tough pre-game decision for both QBs – Early Bird Special dinner – or nap?

Bears score TD on last play of game but with the clock having run out they don’t go for an extra point. (NFL rules say it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t affect the game.) Saints win by 12.

The spread was 11. If the Bears had scored with a few seconds left they either kick an extra point to make it a push (tie) or they go for two, making Chicago betters winners.

Why I don’t bet on football.

PGA has now taken 2022 championship away from Trump Bedminster Course. If Donald cared about golf he’d be really upset about that.

Makes a certain amount of sense that Velveeta Voldemort is giving the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Bill Belichick. Belichick is one of our country’s top examples in successfully cheating to win.

How can you remove a President with less than two weeks to go? I don’t know, how do you confirm a lifetime SCOTUS appointment that quickly?

Former Florida Governor Charlie Crist left the GOP in 2010. Now he’s a trendsetter!

On CNN today, Colin Powell, “I no longer consider myself a Republican.” Who’s next?

So the same GOP clutching their pearls over a private social media company banning their leader. who still wants to overthrow democracy, have no problem with a private bakery refusing to bake cakes for gay couples who want to get married. Got it.

Chris Christie is the latest previous Trump ally to call for impeachment. Who else still has the thought “Wonder what viciousness Donald will tweet about THAT? Oh wait, never mind.”

Gab -“American alt-tech social networking service. Widely described as haven for extremists- neo-Nazis, white supremacists & alt-right, it attracts users & groups banned from other social networks” – Wikipedia Donald’s base. Wonder how many of them can afford to join Mar-A-Lago.

Stripe is refusing to process payments for Trump’s campaign store. For anyone thinking Square, their rival, might step up to fill the breach – the CEO of Square is…. Jack Dorsey. (also CEO of Twitter.)

Seriously Roy Blunt? “The president touched the hot stove on Wednesday and is unlikely to touch it again.” So this is the 2021 version of Susan Collins’ “I think he’s learned his lesson? WTF?
