April 30, 2021

So in how many newspapers other than in Jacksonville will the headlines in the sports section be “Why ‘fill-in-the-blank” really blew it by not picking “fill-in-the-blank” in the first round?

(And in how many papers will the same headlines be in about 6 months – “why ‘fill-in-the-blank’ was the steal of the draft?”)

Thinking instead of all this NFL draft hype, it’s a better use of a few hours if you haven’t seen it (and maybe even if you have) to watch Kevin Costner and Jennifer Garner and yes, Chadwick Boseman in “Draft Day.”

#VontaeMackNoMatterWhat

1. SF Giants’ have 2nd best pitching ERA in baseball, and apparently MLB’s lowest ERA for starting pitchers.

2. Can anyone outside SF Bay Area name more than one person in the Giants rotation? (Hint, the one you can name is on the IL.)

That’s baseball.

Mike Tauchman had 3 hits in 1st game w/ #SFGiants after being traded yesterday from NY Yankees. auchman probably didn’t expect at beginning of season to be starting May in SF. But NO one expected by going to Giants from Yankees, Mike’s joined team w/ much better record.

There will never be bus service near Mar-A-Lago. No bus could run with all the people the Former Guy would throw under it.

Tim Scott is giving Nikki Haley a run for her money as the South Carolina politician who has most abandoned their principles in hopes of GOP glory.

Marsha Blackburn started out her attack today on Joe Biden’s plans by talking about common sense… Marsha Blackburn and common sense are not two things I expected ever to write in the same sentence.

Margin of 0.4%, less than 32,500 votes….

Yes, that’s how much Governor Ron DeSantis won Florida Gubernatorial election by in 2018. Less than the number of fans usually attending most FL college football games.

If your vote didn’t matter, GOP wouldn’t try so hard to stop it.

Personally thinking it was a very good first Presidential Address by President Biden. Made even better by the fact that Joe didn’t brag about his speech afterwards on Twitter.

Without a single proven case of voter fraud, Florida Gov DeSantis plans to sign restrictive new GOP voting law, including tougher ID requirements to request absentee ballot. But Ron doesn’t want you to need to prove you’ve been vaccinated to get on a cruise ship. #NotTheOnion

Just counted, I have voted in 11 Presidential elections. Yes, I’m not young anymore, but I remember when idea was when you lost you tried to figure out how to get a better candidate or message next time – not how to overturn the election.

Shut out.

April 29, 2021

When you see a 1-0 Mets loss, you really don’t need to look at the box score to know Jacob DeGrom was pitching.

Maybe a solution for DeGrom is not just putting him on the All-Star Team, but also Madison Bumgarner. Maybe Madbum can teach him how to hit?

Mike Tauchman had three hits in his first game with San Francisco Giants after being traded yesterday from the NY Yankees.

While Tauchman probably didn’t expect at the beginning of the season to be starting May in SF,, one thing no one expected, that by going to the Giants from the Yankees, Mike’s joined a team with a much better record.

So we’re FINALLY about to be done with months of post-season NFL Draft hype. And now we’re about to be in for months of pre-season NFL Draft analysis.

RIP Michael Collins, 90, and another piece of my childhood. Always thought it was unfair he drew the short straw and had to do an equal share of Apollo 11 work without actually getting to the moon. I hoped they brought him a souvenir rock.

“It’s never been a good bet to bet against the United States of America. And it still isn’t.” Joe Biden Hmm… did someone say “bet?” If we can make this into some sort of lottery game maybe we can get Americans from both parties on board.

So did the Former Guy give Rudy Giuliani a pre-emptive pardon? Asking for a country facing a potential popcorn shortage.

Not in Biden’s speech- but today thinking of a line quoted in Kristin Hannah’s “The Four Winds.” “I see one-third of a nation ill-housed, ill-clad, ill-nourished… The test of our progress whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much, it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.” –

The speaker quoted? FDR.

You know Joe Biden’s speech went well when one of Fox News’ headlines tonight is about Nancy Pelosi’s blow dry – in September 2020!? WTF #NotTheOnion

As South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, in GOP rebuttal to Joe Biden’s Presidential Address, complains about Biden trying to get government involved in people lives, your reminder, if not for government intervention, public schools in the South might STILL be segregated.

I do give Tim Scott credit: Saying “Republicans want to make it easier to vote and harder to cheat” with a straight face was harder than Alec Baldwin keeping a straight face during SNL’s “Schweddy Balls” skit.

GOP claiming some sort of victory since Texas picked up two congressional seats while California lost one. Except if people ARE heading from CA to TX for less expensive housing, especially in Austin, doesn’t this mean Lone Star state is getting bluer? #unintendedconsequences

Chris Christie now accusing Joe Biden of lying to hide a “socialist agenda?” Chris Christie really needs to spend about an hour with Bernie supporters.

This GOP cult mentality has gotten so bad sometimes it feels as if they could get Mitch McConnell to speak out against polio vaccines.

So if in Florida with “Stand your ground” laws, if someone threatens you publicly for having your child wear a mask are you justified in shooting them?

The shortest drought?

April 28, 2021

During one nine and a half minute stretch in Golden State Warriors’s loss on Tuesday night they were outscored 28-0.

And unfortunately for the Warriors, they were playing the Dallas Mavericks, not the Atlanta Falcons.

(Final score, 133 to 103.)

CDC guidelines now say you can be outside without a mask if you’re not in a crowd. So Marlins fans should be fine.

The Milwaukee Bucks are offering free COVID-19 vaccine first Pfizer shot to eligible fans on Saturday night, (with a second shot appointment to be scheduled)

Wonder if the Houston Rockets had the same idea, but figured none of their fans would trust they could them to make any shot?

SF Giants fans in extra innings – these “runner on second no one out games can escalate really quickly (and did tonight) from “This is a great game,” to “At least the Dodgers lost.”

Non-political non-sports travel agent rant of the day on hotel false advertising: A “one-room suite” is NOT a suite. It is a large room maybe with a seating area. Suites are TWO rooms at least, plus bathroom. Thank you.

So apparently Liz Cheney won’t rule out running against Joe Biden in 2024. Wonder if she feels she’s qualified due to her father’s experience being President?

CDC now says fully vaccinated people don’t need to wear masks outdoors unless they are in a big crowd. Which is great, but wonder how many anti-maskers are also anti-vaxxers?

So if some Democrat suggests vaccine passports can serve as voter id will Fox News heads explode?

Fox News and some in GOP trying to convince Americans that no one was in any danger at the Capitol on January 6, but Americans ARE in danger now if they wear masks. My head hurts.

Presidents ARE role models. Some conservatives attacking Joe Biden for wearing a mask too often. The Former Guy almost never wore one. Wonder what Herman Cain thinks?

So Tucker Carlson thinks you should call Child Protective Services if you see a child with a mask. But not if you see a child in the company of Matt Gaetz?

If the media only had felt as compelled to ask gotcha questions of the Former Guy as they do of President Biden.

Senate “Drinking Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Act of 2021” on the floor and pass almost unanimously. Except Ted Cruz was one of 3 “no” votes. To be fair, perhaps Ted is afraid water will melt him.

Who says politicians can’t be succinct? When Stephen Colbert asks Amy Klobuchar “Last time we spoke (which was the night of January 6) you were pretty mad at Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz. Still mad? “Yeah.”

Forget children with masks. Did any Republicans even think of whether they should call child protective services when they got shown nude pictures by Matt Gaetz?

Fit to be tied.

April 27, 2021

Yeah, this probably isn’t gonna last.

But it’s fun for now.

NL West Standings:SF Giants 15 8 .652

LA Dodgers 15 8 .652

Wait, thought I was turning on an Giants-Rockies game and looks like SF Giants batting practice session has broken out.

(12-0 Giants.)

Still wrapping my head around MLB not giving Madison Bumgarner credit for his 7-inning no-hitter. Dodgers got World Series credit after 60 game season, & crucial extra-inning games can be won if team is lucky enough to have fastest runner placed at 2nd in 10th. Do better, MLB

San Antonio Spurs beat Washington Wizards 146-143 tonight in OT Coach Gregg Popovich after the game: “You wouldn’t exactly say it was a defensive clinic by either team.” I love Pop.

Steve Scalise, who is part of GOP leadership and thus entitled to attend, says he won’t attend Biden’s Joint Address to Congress.

This feels kind of like when that obnoxious relative you HAVE to invite to your wedding says he can’t make it.

Bottle with popping cork

Kevin McCarthy claims “This is the tightest tightrope anyone has to walk,” as he defends the Former Guy. Tightrope? More like a sobriety test – a simple white line anyone can walk who’s not drunk on Donald’s lies.

Marco Rubio ranting in an op-ed about corporations and “woke toxic nonsense?” Thinking he should stick to meaningless bible verses.

If someone had said that a state would try to set up different rules for voting ONLY for cities with a population over one million, most of us would have thought that was a bad joke. Texas has become a bad joke.

But hey, headlines all about GOP states gaining Congressional seats: Texas will gain 2 & Colorado, Florida, Montana, North Carolina & Oregon will gain 1.

While NY, Illinois, Mich. Ohio, Pennsylvania, CA. & WV each lost 1.

Except Oregon and Colorado are blue. OH & WV are red. And Texas & FL ARE getting bluer.

CNN reporting some advisors to Former Guy are urging him to make a vaccine PSA. Wonder if he’s afraid that watching a PSA would be a gateway drug to science.

All of this ridiculousness over the lie that Biden will mandate lower beef consumption and take away your hamburgers, reminds me of a Johnny Carson joke when McDonald’s sold their one-billionth burger. “Can you imagine? that’s almost 10 pounds of meat.”

How long until GOP starts complaining that Joe Biden wants us to drink plant-based wine too?

Ron Johnson complaining about vaccinations, and people being forced to carry a card to participate in society. Yes, the same Ron Johnson who spouts GOP party line that US needs to tighten requirements for voter ID cards to participate in society.

So during Blitz in England, Blackout regulations “required that all windows & doors should be covered at night w/ suitable material -heavy curtains, cardboard or paint, to prevent escape of any glimmer of light that might aid enemy aircraft.” And folks are bitching about masks?

Remember when everyone agreed in 2000 that most people in Palm Beach County INTENDED to vote for Al Gore and not Pat Buchanan but got confused by the butterfly ballot? Somehow I missed GOP concern about election integrity and checking ballots a dozen times then.

Missed hitting enter by that much…

April 27, 2021

Madison Bumgarner threw a 7 inning no-hitter today in the second game of a doubleheader. But MLB says the no-hitter doesn’t count because it’s only 7 innings. Uh, wait, the no-hitter doesn’t count, but the game counts?

And if shortening baseball makes it not count for records, how come the Dodgers still got a World Series trophy?

The Dodgers are the first team in baseball this year to blow a six run lead after seven innings. Not a joke. Just fun to right.

Former Baylor coach Kim Mulkey was just named LSU women’s basketball coach.

Now, she’s a Hall of Fame coach, but Mulkey is also the only who said last month “Wouldn’t it be shame if kids test positive & they don’t get to play in Final Four? You just need to forget COVID tests, get 4 teams playing in each Final Four & go battle it out.”

Getting your first COVID-19 shot and skipping the second is like wearing your seat belt to drive somewhere and leaving it unbuckled for the return trip.

Jon Voight, who hasn’t been a big name in Hollywood since the 1970s, is now using his right-wing views to go on national TV to complain about being “silenced.

46% of Republicans think the Chauvin guilty verdict was wrong. The scary question… included in that 46% are how many cops? We NEED the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

There oughta be a rule on Sunday morning talk shows – if you can’t accept reality, admit the 2020 election was fair and Joe Biden won, you can’t be on them.

Illustration of Sunday Talk Show problem: Amy Klobuchar on Meet the Press talked about getting the George Floyd Justice in Police act passed, perhaps with bipartisan support, saying “Senator Booker leading negotiations; I have so much faith in him to get to something meaningful.”

Rick Scott on ABC This Week said the Former Guy “worked hard.”

Lindsey Graham on Fox News -“There’s no systemic racism.”

Guess which comments get the headlines?

It’s not going to be an overnight process, but we’ll know if we’ve made real strides in justice and police reform in the US when a guilty verdict as in the Chauvin trial isn’t a surprise.

Joe Biden is going to take away everyone’s hamburgers like Barack Obama took away everyone’s guns.

In homage to this crazy semi-lost year with the COVID-19 pandemic, must admit I found myself wishing SOMEONE would show up at the Oscars in a beautiful designer top, and sweatpants.

Amazed tonight at the Oscar, as usual when someone apologizes that their English is not very good, and that English is always better than most of us, even those who studied one for years, ever spoke a foreign language.

Glenn Close, knowing and then doing “Da Butt” was a definite lagniappe for tonight’s Oscars

Closing line from Tyler Perry, talking about refusing hate: “I want to take this Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and dedicate it to whoever wants to stand in the middle. That’s where conversation happens, that’s where change happens.” #Oscars

No support

April 25, 2021

Another great outing for Kevin Gusman, the 2021 SF Giants equivalent of Jacob DeGrom – 1 run, 1 hit, nothing to show for it. (Giants lost after bullpen fell apart in 1-1 tie in the 8th.)

Shame Madison Bumgarner isn’t still around to teach him Gusman how to hit.

Btw, for all those who see a young pitcher who throws in three figures & wonder why they haven’t been in the majors before… watch 9th inning of Saturday night’s SF Giants-Marlins game. 100 mph means nothing if you can’t control location. And 100 mph in straight over the place goes out even faster. Rant over.

After LeBron James posted but then deleted an angry “You’re next” tweet after the police shooting of a 14 year old girl in Columbus, a Cincinnati bar owner said he wouldn’t show NBA games until the league expelled James.:

The bar owner said “if a high-ranking government official of the likes of former President Donald Trump or President Joe Biden had made similar statements there would be calls for ‘impeachment.'”

Who wants to tell him?

Mar-A-Lago will close for the Summer soon, and the Former Guy will apparently move to his club in Bedminster. How often does New Jersey say “there goes the neighborhood?

I know he’s “summering” at Bedminster. But really, isn’t the Former Guy more of a Jersey Shore kind of guy?

Elon Musk is hosting SNL next month. Guess they’re bringing back an old skit.

So who’s gonna play Lady Douchebag?

Every time right-wing media accuses Democratic leaders of dishonesty and hiding information I want to ask one question – Why did we never see a picture of the Former Guy and Former Flotus getting their COVID-19 vaccine?

I wonder if you asked random MAGAs how many of them even know the Former Guy GOT a COVID-19 vaccine?

So I understand journalism is supposed to be impartial. But when did it become impartial to let someone come on your show and never say “Excuse me, that’s factually incorrect?”

Texas GOP is trying to pass new voting laws that are “outlining restrictions only for counties w/ population over 1 million – targeting increasingly diverse areas like Houston, Austin, San Antonio & Dallas.”

When they say the White part out loud.

Four lucky rabbits feet?

April 24, 2021

If anyone had said SF Giants would be one game behind Los Angeles Dodgers 20 games into the 2021 season, pretty sure most of us would have assumed it was because Dodgers were starting the season playing like they had a really bad World Series hangover.

These are difficult times, but turning on KNBR while grocery shopping and listening to Tom Tolbert and Rod Brooks discuss a giant rabbit at SF Giants game…. well for a few minutes all’s right with the world.

=

LSU is cutting lies w/ star RB Derrius Guice & removing his stats from Tigers record book. Guice charged in 3 separate 2020 domestic violence incidents, 2 sexual assaults in 2016, plus other incidents. You know it’s bad when you trigger the SEC’s “7 strikes & you’re out” policy.

We absolutely need police reform and to deal with systemic racism. And no traffic stop should be punished with the death penalty.

But fortunately no one got hurt when Steelers CB Justin Layne was arrested in Ohio last night for felony transportation of a gun. He was also allegedly going 89 mph in a 60 zone, at 300am, with a suspended license Sorry, that’s just plain stupid.

.

So can someone explain to me how same folks who are angry at perceived “privileged elitists” having advantages ordinary people don’t get, reconcile that with refusing COVID-19 vaccine those same privileged elitists jumped the line to get?

Stanford University will require all students to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 this fall. While students can request medical/religious exceptions, presumably anyone smart enough to get into Stanford is smart enough to want to get vaccinated.

(and yes, Josh Hawley. But Hawley HAS been vaccinated, although he’s hardly a poster boy telling others to do so.)

As Rachel Maddow reminds us tonight Arizona GOP is now trying to use “Election Ninjas” company to overthrow 2020 Presidential election results, reminder Krysten Sinema, even if she is maddening at times, is a trivial problem for Democrats by comparison.

State elections matter!

If MAGAs are going to boycott Disney World for being too “woke” then while that won’t do anything about their high prices, it makes Disney World a far more attractive destination for the rest of us!

George W. Bush says now he voted for Condoleezza Rice through a write-in in 2020. So W. remains as good as he was as President in making tough decisions when he didn’t love either option.

If someone came up with a movie script involving a lawmaker who looked and acted like Matt Gaetz they’d probably have been told to edit the script to make it more realistic.

Would the media stay more interested in Matt Gaetz sex trafficking scandal, possibly including underage girls, if we could somehow convince them there was a pizza parlor involved?

Caitlyn Jenner is going to run for Governor of California. As if the state having the lowest COVID-19 rate in the country weren’t good enough news already this week for Gavin Newsom

Caitlyn Jenner running for Gov. of Calif. is a joke. You know what’s not a joke? $100 million recall election will cost Calif – it only takes 12% of voters in last election to trigger recall. Newsom was already up for re-election in 2022. Please think before you sign petitions.

Remember when right-wing media attacks President Biden for not having regular Press Conferences, April 23, was the one year anniversary of the Former Guy suggesting we ingest bleach.

Sunday morning Devil’s Bargain with Meet the Press: To watch Amy Klobuchar I have to watch Chuck Todd.

Some bunny loves you.

April 23, 2021

Three World Series titles in five years and national media never paid as much attention to #SFGiants as when Alex showed up tonight.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/giants/2021/04/22/therapy-bunny-named-alex-steals-hearts-giants-fans-san-francisco/7347345002/

San Antonio Spurs won their 29th game of 2020-21 season tonight 106 to 91 against Detroit Pistons. Why does that number matter? The Vegas over-under on wins for Spurs for the SEASON was 28.5 Gregg Popovich is a damn good coach.

Most NFL players seem happy about rule change allowing more flexibility on numbers worn on players’ jerseys but Tom Brady is complaining “Good luck trying to block the right people now. Going to make for a lot of bad football!” Hey Tom, not all NFL players need reading glasses.

A British study of over 8,000 people over 25 years found those who reported regularly sleeping six hours or less were 30% more likely diagnosed with dementia nearly three decades later. Great, one more thing to lose sleep over.

As GOP wants Americans to become apoplectic over Joe Biden wanting to raise capital gains from 20% to 39.6%, they for some reason leave out a little detail, the tax hike would ONLY be for those earning more than $1 million a year. I’m sure that’s just a coincidence.

Cannot believe some conservatives are acting like Daunte Wright deserved to die because of an attempted armed robbery when he was 17. While the same people have no problem with a man who attempted rape at 17 sitting on the Supreme Court.

Rachel Maddow also notes that the Supreme Court decision justifying locking up someone for life without parole for crimes committed as a teenager was written by Justice “I like Beer.” Irony now passed out drunk in a corner. #BrettKavanaugh

Guess maybe we shouldn’t be surprised by Former Guy’s SCOTUS appointees saying that high school age teenagers are adults – Former Guy acolyte Matt Gaetz feels the same way.

Cannot believe some conservatives are acting like Daunte Wright deserved to die because of an attempted armed robbery when he was 17. While the same people have no problem with a man who attempted rape at 17 sitting on the Supreme Court.

Cory Booker calls Tim Scott an “honest broker” in George Floyd Justice in Policing negotiations. I’m a Democrat in large part because I’m optimistic about people. And if Tim Scott ends up doing this one good thing I will applaud him. (Not ever vote for him but applaud him.)

Unreal

April 22, 2021

As many good teams as Steph Curry has almost singlehandedly led the Warriors to victory over in last few weeks, who had him losing his 11 game streak of 30 points or more in a game to the Washington Wizards?

Don’t have a strong opinion on Lebron James & his tweets today except that “I took the tweet down because its being used to create more hate” sounds a lot more like “I may have made a mistake” than you hear from most politicians & leaders.

How many levels of stupid can be contained in one sentence? “Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. will miss time because of violation of NBA’s health safety protocols stemming from visiting Miami strip club w/ teammate Sterling Brown where Brown was assaulted, sources told ESPN.”

Florida’s new “Anti-Riot” law classifies 3 or more people protesting as a riot, and also gives civil immunity to people who drive their car into a crowd of protestors. Has it occurred to any of these Republicans this could basically legalize murder after a controversial Florida-Florida State football game?

Rachel Maddow points out how Florida’s “Anti-Riot” bill, which criminalizes a long loose list of things deemed “protests” is House Bill 1 in Florida. My daily (at least) reminder, #ForThePeopleAct is Senate Bill 1, for a reason. The ONLY way we save democracy is to vote.

Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted “I’m glad I ran into you @AOC to plan our debate about Gree New Deal. After I finish reading all 14 pages like we agreed, I’ll schedule time for our debate.” Trying to wrap my head around what application to be intern in Greene’s office is like.

Millions have seen Stacey Abrams school John Kennedy on racist provisions of GA voting bill. (worth googling if you haven’t seen it.)

Reminder for 2022, Kennedy won LA seat over Sen Mary Landrieu, often attacked by liberal Dems as too conservative. Red State Dems may be annoying, but they’re better than the alternative.

Colin Kahl, who was only confirmed as Biden’s nominee for Undersecretary of Defense Policy because VP Kamala Harris needed to cast tie-breaking vote, , apparently in Tweets called Devin Nunes “biased and dishonest” & said Former Guy was “a moron.”

Well, clearly Kahl needs to work on his diplomacy, but seems nothing wrong with his intelligence.

After Chauvin guilty verdict, think it’s a good idea to have DOJ civil investigation into Minneapolis Police Department. But hope this doesn’t make folks in other cities think they don’t have anything that might need fixing with THEIR police.

GOP Senators Sullivan (Alaska), Rubio and Scott (Florida) have a bill to push CDC to open up cruising from US ports this July. Might help if Rubio and Scott talk to their COVIDiot governor who is trying to ban cruises from demanding proof of vaccination to board. Just saying.

Chris Christie now says he’s now “seriously considering” running for President. Of course he can still close down that bridge when he comes to it.

If you live in Virginia, you still have wear a mask in public, but starting July 1 you’ll be able to possess and privately use and grow a small amount of marijuana. Whereas Florida still has laws both against masks and marijuana. State elections matter.

Kaiser Family Foundation study found US may be less than a month until COVID-19 vaccine supply outstrips demand. Since many Americans are increasingly so bad at both science and odds, not completely joking to suggest US offer anyone who gets a vaccine free Powerball tickets.

Cory Booker for Vanita Gupta, notes Dick Durbin speaks softly “not raising his voice like I do.” Actually Cory’s very good when he’s mad. He’s justifiably mad now -“She’s not a partisan, she’s a patriot. She’s not a Democrat or Republican, she’s an honest broker.”

Again, not a big fan of Manchin or Sinema. But they both voted yes on Vanita Gupta. That “D” after a Senator’s name matters.

Kayleigh McEnany on Fox attacking Joe Biden Tuesday for his comments on Chauvin trial: “I think it’s the role of the president of the United States to stay back, to not inflame the tensions.” I could stay up all night and never write a line as funny as that. Good night all.

Guilty, guilty, guilty

April 21, 2021

Fond memories of Doonesbury today, Yes, I had this book.

Want to know when we’ve have achieved some serious police reform? When we’re no longer shocked and relieved when a police officer is held accountable for a crime.

Just learned tonight that Minnesota Governor Tim Malz was a former 4th grade teacher. Makes sense. Bet he was a good one.

“I don’t see how it could have been otherwise, but I truly know it could have been otherwise.” 91 year old African-American woman quoted on Rachel Maddow as she heard the Chauvin guilty verdict. Speaking for so many of us tonight.

Need reminder on how much state & local elections matters?

Minnesota A Keith Ellison elected with less than 4% margin of vote in 2018.

His GOP opponent Doug Wardlow stated if elected, he’d “fire 42 Democratic attorneys right off the bat” from the AG’s office.

Doug Wardlow, no joke, is currently general counsel for Mike Lindell and My Pillow.

Imagine if HE were MN AG.

I like to think in heaven today that Walter Mondale is hugging George Floyd.

Seeing Derek Chauvin handcuffed and walked out of that Minneapolis courtroom is the most satisfying thing I have seen in a long time.

Lisa Monaco being confirmed as Deputy Attorney General as close to unanimously as you can get in today’s Senate. So we don’t need to know about Lisa to know two things – she hasn’t sent mean tweets, and she’s white.

So it’s now Wednesday, April 21. How many serious stoners will be celebrating 420 day today?

Exceeding expectations.

April 20, 2021

Yeah, about three weeks into the 2021 MLB season we all had the Los Angeles Dodgers with the best record in the National League.

But the second and third best teams by record being the NY Mets and SF Giants?

Don’t put away those batsh*t bingo cards yet.

Watching SF Giants on TV and seeing pictures of Philly cheesesteaks grilling at Tony Luke’s centerfield ballpark stand in Philadelphia makes me really miss travel… especially baseball “road trips.” Sigh.

At the risk of jinxing them, there are just under 4 weeks left in NBA regular season, and San Antonio Spurs won their 28th game.

The reason this matters. In Las Vegas the over-under on Spurs wins for the SEASON was 28.5.

It is just possible Gregg Popovich is a very good coach.

A govt watchdog group said Ted Cruz’s campaign illegally spent $154,000 of campaign funds on copies of his new book last fall, & $18,000 to promote it via Facebook ads. And even so, most Americans are going “what book?”

#Sad

Politico reports Amy Coney Barrett, got a $2 million advance for book “about how judges are not supposed to bring their personal feelings into how they rule. Like when RBG called the Former Guy “a faker” in 2016, and he tweeted “Her mind is shot – resign”?

Mitch McConnell is clutching his pearls over Maxine Waters comments about looking for a guilty verdict in Chauvin trial… “It’s hard to imagine anything more inappropriate..” Oh, I don’t know, hypothetically a President looking to overthrow an election?

Fox News & GOP – Maxine Waters saying “get more confrontational” is “cause for a mistrial,” “trying to start a race war, etc. Also Fox News & GOP – The Former Guy saying “if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore” was just an invitation to a picnic.

Not that I watched but noticed Fox News referred to The Former Guy as “Former President.” That’s got to have ticked him off big time. Bummer.

26 year anniversary of Oklahoma City bombing, with 168 victims including 19 children.

If it happened today, even if McVeigh did a real time bragging confession on Twitter or Facebook Live, Fox News would still be trying to blame the mass murder to Democrats & “Antifa.”

We’ll know Clubhouse is really a thing if/when Mark Zuckerberg starts putting major resources into squashing it.

Defense closing arguments in Chauvin trial, trying to blame George Floyd’s death on anything but Derek Chauvin kneeling on his neck: Part of argument is Floyd was so strong he needed to be restrained that way. But also so weak he would have died anyway? Would almost be funny if it weren’t murder.

Finally, RIP Walter Mondale. Part of the first ticket I ever voted for in 1980. He was a good man. From the Carter Center….

Small fierce mercies?

April 19, 2021

NY Yankees are 5-10, the worst record in AL, and actually were booed loudly today at home as they got swept by the Rays.

Boos could have been much worse, at least with COVID protocols the Yankee Stadium crowd size was only 10,606.

NBA fined San Antonio $25,000 Sunday for violating league’s player resting policy Saturday night in Phoenix, after Popovich sat Demar DeRozan, Patty Mills and Jacob Poeltl.

The Spurs beat the Suns 111-85.

So will Pop send NBA $100,000 to keep Saturday’s lineup for the next week?

Since some Americans seem to think they have a better chance of winning the lottery than catching COVID, how many free lottery tickets would it take to get some of these folks to get vaccinated?

Open note to GOP politicians: If you say during a book tour that you knew something was wrong at the time but you didn’t speak out, this doesn’t make you a patriot. It makes you cowardly as well as complicit.

Now FL Gov Ron DeSantis, in latest anti-mask rant, “if you’ve had vaccine you’re immune, so act immune.” But Ron’s been saying COVID is harmless & banned mask mandates for everyone. So even if you believe him now & see someone maskless, how do you know if they’re “immune?”

Several otters at Georgia Aquarium test positive for COVID but are expected to recover. “It is suspected the otters may have acquired the infection from an asymptomatic staff member.” Wonder how many humans that staff member infected?

So many Americans didn’t even going to find out about Saturday night’s Kenosha mass shooting before it gots eclipsed by the mass shooting Sunday in Austin? Just another day with our well-regulated militia.

So police say today’s Austin mass shooting was an isolated “domestic situation” & there is “no risk to the general public.” Unless you’re a member of general public who might know someone who’s normally “a good guy with a gun,” until he isn’t.

Mar 2020 – FedEx killer’s mom told police he’d might commit “suicide by cop.” They took his gun, put him on mental health temporary hold. Apr – FBI interviewed him. Jul & Sept- he legally bought 2 assault rifles. Tell me again how we just need to enforce existing gun laws?

Trying to find the common thread in these mass shootings that have happened on seemingly a daily basis? Hint: None of these guys used sticks, stones, or knives.

Yes, Former Guy did once say, after El Paso and Dayton mass shootings that said he wanted tighter background checks on gun buyers & said he’d release a proposal for new laws that fall. I guess we missed those new laws as a part of his beautiful healthcare plan?

Wrap your head around this one: Thanks to the Former Guy and GOP, millions of Americans are now under the impression that masks are dangerous and guns keep them safer.

Any given Saturday night…

April 17, 2021

San Antonio Spurs, who’ve been in free-fall, were shorthanded tonight against Phoenix Suns, perhaps the best team in the Western Conference lately.

So didn’t everyone expect it to be a blowout? It was, Spurs 111-85.

I love sports.

Snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory twice in two innings reminds us that however much life has changed, the #SFGiants bullpen and torture remains consistent.

I guess we shouldn’t be surprised in a country where many are convinced there is some magical diet where they can lose weight w/out exercise & their retirement plan will be winning the lottery, that some of those same people don’t want to bother with a COVID vaccine either.

I’m a proud liberal who believes in finding common ground. But since GOP is so bound and determined to label liberals as “Antifa,” your reminder that the term literally means “Anti-Fascist.” So what’s the opposite of Antifa?

Friend just told me great story about someone saying of COVID-19 vaccine “I won’t put anything in my body where I don’t know what’s in it.” And they got the response “You eat hot dogs don’t you?”

Even now, if the Former Guy called a press conference & told his followers to get the vaccine and mask up to avoid another COVID-19 surge, he could save countless lives. But he won’t. Because that would mean admitting he was wrong.

Apparently April 16 was “Wear your pajamas to work day.” And millions of Americans are going “Isn’t EVERY day ‘Wear your pajamas to work day’?”

After Thursday’s mass shooting FedEx apparently “re-evaluating” policy of not allowing employees to have phones w/ them during work hours. So we can’t change laws to stop people from getting shot, but we can change rules to allow them to call loved ones before they die. America.

Can you imagine GOP outrage if Democrats tried to make it harder to vote in gated communities like Florida’s “The Villages?”

President Biden played his first round of golf today since being inaugurated & some Republicans attacked Joe for golfing instead of visiting the southern border. Funeral services for irony are pending.

Not winning!?

April 17, 2021

All you need to know about how the 12th inning went tonight for San Diego Padres against LA Dodgers is that Jake Cronenworth was their best pitcher.Cronenworth for non-baseball fans, is a 2nd baseman.

The Yankees are not just in last place. As of Friday night they have the worst record in the American League. Thoughts and prayers.

So yeah, not great for Joe Biden to say “You’ve got a Japanese boy coming over here and, guess what, he won the Masters.” Hideki Matsuyama is 29. But some of GOP clutching their pearls also had no problem with Former Guy in 2017 refer to Donny Jr, 39, as a “nice boy.”

So does anyone want to hazard a guess how the Former Guy might have referred to Hideki Matsuyama?

You all do realize if the Former Guy had been President in the 1950s, Americans would have refused the polio vaccine too?

As vaccine hesitancy remains a problem, apparently 5,800 fully vaccinated people out of 66 million in the US have contracted COVID-19. A rate of 0.008 % Your chances of dying in a car crash in the US, 1 in 103. .97 %

We don’t know a motive yet in Indianapolis massacre. But the killer was a 19 year old white man, and at least four victims were Sikh. Think conservative media would have any problem guessing at a motive if it were the other way around?

Before his rampage, alleged FedEx killer’s mom had called authorities – because she was scared about his potential for violence. Before he was shot, Daunte Wright actually called his mom – because he was scared about the authorities. Sad, and infuriating.

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s campaign has raised $3.1 million to fight fall recall election. I’ll vote against recall & Gavin will probably survive, but $3.1 million could go to so many better things. Final cost will be over $100 million. Please think before you sign petitions in California.

Lots of headlines on Oath Keeper who became 1st Jan. 6 insurrectionist to plead guilty & will be cooperating w/ govt. Fox News “Heavy metal guitarist busted at Capitol riot becomes first to take plea deal.” “Heavy metal guitarist?!” Closest Fox could come to pretending he’s Antifa?

Can we start referring to Marjorie Taylor Greene and other members of the “America First Caucus” as “lawmaKKKers”?

Well of course Marjorie Taylor Greene & Lauren Boebert voted against reauthorizing National Marrow Donor Program which matches donors with leukemia patients. Believing in science is a slippery slope.

Saw “Promising Young Woman” tonight in advance of the Oscars. Two recommendations:

1. Watch it.

2. Just don’t watch it if you need to go to sleep immediately afterwards.

Wrap your head around this sentence about the Indianapolis massacre – “It was the country’s deadliest shooting since 10 people were killed March 22 at a grocery in Colorado.” Less than one month ago.

From shot clocks to shooting clocks.

April 16, 2021

So Indianapolis made it through the NCAA men’s basketball championship without becoming known as a COVID-19 super-spreader event. And now will join the seemingly endless list of cities known for a “mass-shooter” event.

I’m so old that I remember a time you heard a city or town name in the news and you didn’t immediately think “mass shooting.” And I’m so old that when you heard about a mass shooting the collective US response was shock and not almost numbness.

Sports break – Stanford, a #1 seed, just won the women’s NCAA national basketball championship, and their top pick in the WNBA draft, Kiana Williams, went in the 2nd round. If you didn’t already know that Tara VanDerveer’s Cardinal are about teamwork.

Brett Favre doesn’t want politics involved in sports, ‘I want to watch all the important parts of the game, not what’s going on outside of the game’ Speaking of outside the game, remember Jenn Sterger, reporter who Favre sent unwanted cellphone pics to of what Brett clearly felt were HIS “important parts?”

Vanita Gupta is 46 years old. And Ted Cruz is bloviating about a conference she participated in in COLLEGE? Heck, Josh Hawley is only 41. Back in college some thought he was a reasonable human being.

Give Fox News credit for consistency. Adam Toledo, 13, was a “man,” like everyone Matt Gaetz slept with was a woman.

Mike Pence had surgery today to have a pacemaker fitted after suffering a slow heart rate for two weeks. If the Former Guy knew Pence HAD a heart he probably wouldn’t have picked him as VP.

Still waiting to find out which of his GOP colleagues Matt Gaetz showed those nude pictures to….

Kevin McCarthy says Matt Gaetz is “innocent until proven guilty.” So does this mean Kevin McCarthy’s supporting a special committee to investigate Gaetz like he put together for Benghazi against Hillary Clinton?

If only GOP felt this country should be afraid of random guns on the street as much as they seem to be afraid of a woman’s mean tweets.

If Vanita Gupta were a white man she’d have been confirmed weeks ago.

Ironically while GOP pretends Democrats are breaking Senate rules and upending precedent, if Republicans themselves had followed rules and precedent, Vanita Gupta might have been Biden’s nominee for AG.Because Merrick Garland would be busy on the Supreme Court.

Ted Cruz talking today on Senate floor about “my Democratic friends.” Uh, Senator Cruz, respectfully saying, you don’t even have any REPUBLICAN friends.

Lisa Murkowski voting no on Vanita Gupta. Again, I LIKE Lisa Murkowski personally, but not even the ‘best” Republicans are better than the “worst” Democrats. (Sinema and Manchin are yes votes.)

Today Gym Jordan asked Dr. Fauci “When do Americans get their freedom back?” Sadly, over 560,000 Americans will NEVER get their freedom, or anything else back.

Missed it by not missing him “by that much.”

April 14, 2021

Congrats to Carlos Rodon. Second no-hitter of the 2021 MLB Season

Both of them ONE hit batter away from perfect games.

As an SF Giants fan -this brings back memories of Marvin Bernard. (his being hit by a pitch kept Kevin Brown’s no hitter from being a perfect game in 1997)

Yeah, it’s 12 games in. But #SFGiants are 8-4. How many people expected them to be 4-8? (including Giants fans.)

Five members of Houston Astros have been placed on injured list “as a result of health & safety protocols. GM James Click said it’s not because players broke COVID-19 protocols, saying “they’re following the rules.” And why should anyone think the Astros would break any rules?

Meanwhile, Minnesota Twins’ Andrelton Simmons declined a COVID 19 vaccine last week, and today tested positive. another reminder there is no correlation between athletic ability and intelligence:

As Kirsti Noem grandstands about South Dakota not accepting any illegal immigrants, your reminder other states HAD to accept COVIDiots who’d been at 2020 Sturgis Bike Festival. So thousands of Americans are unable to respond to Gov. Noem, because they are now dead.

In her nasty tweet, Kristi Noem says South Dakota doesn’t want “illegal immigrants” & tells immigrants “call me when you’re an American.” Uh, AP estimates 14% of meatpacking work force in SD are undocumented immigrants. Why doesn’t she call, and arrest, the owners of those plants?

So is it just possible that GOP members of Congress are not condemning Matt Gaetz, who reportedly shared nude pictures of girls/women with his colleagues, because someone clued them in on DC laws that make sharing pictures without the subject’s consent is a crime – “nonconsensual pornography? ” #Complicit

A man charged in the January 6 insurrection has been jailed after he was out on bail and caught attempting to flee to Switzerland. Will Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson say he was just picking up chocolate for the next “festive” event?

The only statement I would want to hear the media cover from the Former Guy would be one where he tells all his cult members to get a COVID-19 shot as soon as possible.

Not that I trust Mitch McConnell but looks he is allowing his fellow Republicans to compromise and maybe support anti-Asian American hate crimes bill. I’m sure the fact Mitch’s wife is Elaine Chao has nothing to do with it. #Sarcasm

Fox News “Critics accuse Minn. mayor of siding with Daunte Wright, rushing to judge accused police officer.” So congratulations to all those who had “Wednesday” in the pool.

Today’s GOP- Ashli Babbitt, shot climbing on a door while trying to break into House chamber, is a patriot who ‘loved America with all her heart.”

Also Today’s GOP -Rep. Park Cannon, arrested while Brian Kemp was signing anti-voting act “was told to stop beating on the door.”

Bernie Madoff has died in prison. What’s the opposite of “Rest in Peace?”

Liz Cheney said she would not support Trump if he was GOP presidential nominee in 2024. 1. Good for her. 2. So the bar is now low enough we applaud a Republican who is willing to disavow someone who was willing to have their own GOP members of Congress killed to retain power.

Once again for those in the back: If the defense team in Chauvin trial wants to prove someone kneeling on your neck for over 9 minutes won’t hurt a healthy man, I am waiting for one of them to volunteer for the re-enactment.

Pre-playoffs.

April 13, 2021

Most NBA teams seem less than thrilled this year with the concept of the “play in tournament,” which will affect the teams in 7th to 10th place in each conference.

But to be fair, isn’t the regular season basically a “play-in-tournament”

Apparently even at 20 percent capacity SF Giants tickets aren’t getting sold out at Oracle Park. And this is surprising why? I’m a half-vaccinated fan, but what’s been the most fun about Giants games? A party atmosphere on the train, chatting, cheering and yes at times commiserating with other fans in the stands… plus all the fun concessions. Love my team but it’s more enjoyable these days at home.

11 games into MLB season the Yankees are still in last place. Just saying.

I won’t use his name but in 2015 police arrested the man who had massacred nine black people in a Charleston Church, unhurt, in a traffic stop. And the cops even bought him lunch. But I guess he didn’t have expired tags or an air freshener…..

Some of the same people who think that we’ll be safer if untrained civilians walk around with guns, also seem pretty sanguine about the idea that a 26 year veteran of the police department can’t tell her gun from a Taser.

While I never condone violence, the more I hear about Rand Paul, the more I wonder… what took his neighbor so long?

Have friends adopting rescue dog. If we really want effective gun safety laws we just need to put some of these animal rescue folks in charge of gun sales – to get the dog there are required interviews, mandatory accessories, questionnaires, 2 hour orientation, 4 month probation….

Dear Media: Why are you even reporting what the Former Guy says about vaccines? Shouldn’t you be telling him to stay home and knit? Sincerely, American women. #StillWithHer

In podcast w/ Hillary Clinton, Amy Klobuchar says “Mitch McConnell is not in a compromising mood. That’s a Minnesota euphemism.” Thinking now her book Antitrust” is done Sen Klobuchar could write little book on “Minnesota euphemisms.” Would be very useful to avoid getting fired from work, suspended from social media, etc.

John Boehner admitted he voted for Donald Trump. Your reminder, a Republican saying Ted Cruz is a miserable SOB is not like a Catholic going to the confessional and having all sins wiped away.

So who on Derek Chauvin’s defense team wants to demonstrate that having someone kneel on their neck for over nine minutes wouldn’t kill a healthy man?

Most women who’ve ever taken birth control pills remember doctor’s warning- small risk of blood clots. Looked it up “FDA estimates risk of birth control users developing serious blood clot is 3 to 9 women out of 10,000.” J&J vaccine blood clot side effect is 6 out of 7 million.

Not playing ball (or puck)

April 12, 2021

The Twins, Timberwolves and Wild all canceled games tonight in Minneapolis after the shooting of Daunte Wright.

At least sometimes the people in charge of sports know better than to stick to sports.

For those who still think it’s just how a man behaves w/ cops, thinking of Cory Booker interview last summer talking. Where he casually said that even in hottest weather heat he kept suit on walking to DC apt after late sessions at Capitol. Because Cory didn’t want to draw attention as random big black guy walking quickly at night in t-shirt & shorts.

Attention will be justifiably focused on the female police officer who killed Daunte Wright, (and who should be charged.) But also who’s the idiot who made decision to pull Wright over, in midafternoon, for an air freshener hanging from his rear-view mirror?

Apparently it’s illegal in some states to have any hanging items in your car rear view mirror? WTF? I thought fuzzy dice in Vegas used to be practically a requirement.

I sympathize and empathize with anyone who’s mixed up hand cream and toothpaste. Confusing a Taser and a gun is not exactly the same mistake.

So can anyone remember a time when a police officer “accidentally” used a gun instead of a Taser on a white person?

So wonder why we haven’t heard any members of Congress who saw Matt Gaetz’s pictures defend them as “tasteful?”

One failed bomber and most Americans still have to take off their shoes at the airport before getting on a plane for safety reasons. But we’ve lost track of number of school shootings and laws in many states are getting looser instead of stricter on gun safety.

NYC Mayoral candidate Andrew Yang backpedaled after a tweet about cracking on unlicensed street vendors

“I regret that I took on such a frankly complicated and nuanced issue on (Twitter) “It wasn’t the right medium.” Can Yang paste that quote on his bathroom mirror?

I’m so old I remember when we thought Nikki Haley cared more about America and our democracy than Liz Cheney.

Hawaii requires COVID tests for anyone entering the state. Why are other states not requiring mandatory COVID testing for anyone returning from Florida?

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will sue to attempt to block cruise lines from requiring proof of vaccination to sail.

“Siri, what happens when you cross ‘stupid’ and ‘evil?”

Jill Biden’s spokesperson reported that Major Biden “”will undergo some additional training to help him adjust to life in the White House.” Too bad this training didn’t happen for the Former Guy

Some of the same conservatives who clutched their pearls as if 22 year old Monica Lewinsky was a schoolgirl during her relationship with Bill Clinton, aren’t batting an eye at Matt Gaetz’s alleged relationships with real schoolgirls.

Wonder how many MAGAs who won’t get a COVID vaccine because of their cult leader are aware that he and Melania did get their shots?

Winning weekend

April 11, 2021

Congrats to Hideki Matsuyama, first Japanese Masters Champion. Which means at next years Masters Champions Dinner he gets to pick the menu. Of course it IS Georgia? Fried sushi, anyone?

NY Pitcher Marcus Stroman was upset the Mets Marlins game Sunday was started in the rain, and lasted just seven minutes before being suspended after an over two hour rain delay. Well, the Mets did score as many runs during the delay as they did all game Saturday for Jacob DeGrom.

Don’t look now, but the SF Giants might be a decent baseball team. Or at least not as awful as they were expected to be.

St. Cloud State lost 5-0 in the Frozen Four men’s ice hockey championship to U Mass and were never really in the game. Not sure if UMass will get a call to the White House. But maybe St. Cloud State might have gotten a sympathy call from Gonzaga?

CNN reports increasing storm threat across central Florida causing delays at major airports Sunday. Well, why doesn’t Florida Gov. Ron De Santis just ban weather reports? Like COVID-19 warnings, it’s only science.

Senator Ted Cruz responding to John Boehner’s criticism now by saying “I think he was probably recording at nine or ten in the morning so obviously he had too much wine that day already.” So Ted is trying to remind us that he himself is this obnoxious even when he’s sober?

Tony Blinken said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the U.S. will be “the world leader on helping to make sure the entire world gets vaccinated.” Might be easier to get most of the world vaccinated than some of the Former Guy’s U.S. cult members

Within reason, I’m an ends justify the means kind of person… so keep thinking of how to get more Americans vaccinated: What if we get some of these “bros” a free drink of their choice while they wait 15 minutes after their vaccine? Could call it “Shots for shots.”

So if we could get a rumor going that COVID causes a man’s private parts to shrink permanently would that make men less vaccine adverse?

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, trying to be a political heir to the Former Guy, is making his brand “competent Trumpism.” Talk about an oxymoron.

How long will it take for Fox News to somehow blame Joe Biden for Hideki Matsuyama, a non-American, winning the Masters? And will they assume Matsuyama is from China?

Someday dissertations will be written on the codependent Stockholm syndrome relationship media has with The Former Guy.

Amazingly many of these Republicans who are still trying to feed us the “Big Lie” about the 2020 election haven’t figured out the logical contradiction in themselves being elected in 2020.

Matt Gaetz is saying his accusers and detractors are part of the Deep State. Uh, if it makes you a card-carrying member of the Deep State now if you believe adult men should not have sex with 17 year old girls, then I not only want my Deep State card, I want it laminated.

As vaccine hesistancy soon may become more of a problem than vaccine supply, perhaps it might help to demand all members of Congress who have been vaccinated admit it publicly.

There’s a reason there are no pictures of the Former Guy getting COVID vaccine. Or Ted Cruz, Or Josh Hawley, etc. They’re smart enough to get the shot, but need the support of those they’ve convinced to think science is a hoax.

No more no no nos.

April 9, 2021

Congrats to Joe Musgrove. But he just wrecked the answer to a baseball trivia question. ” Which is the only only current MLB franchise without a no-hitter? (Until tonight it was the San Diego Padres.)

Good for Musgrove and the Padres. But Tim Lincecum still has thrown more no hitters against San Diego than the Padres have thrown as a franchise.

As public and corporate sentiment seem solidly behind moving the All-Star game from Georgia, give GOP credit. Even as a baseball fan I couldn’t imagine how anyone could make MLB look “woke.”

Voter suppression isn’t enough. Florida GOP and Gov. Ron De Santis now trying to pass law where if you attend a protest that becomes, you could be charged with a 3rd-degree felony, and up to 5 yrs in prison. (If 25 or more attend- it would be a 2nd- degree, up to 15 yrs in prison..) Uh, this could describe aftermath of many FL college football games.

Kansas State Senate Leader Gene Suellentrop was arrested for alleged DUI and and fleeing police. Also Suellentrop was allegedly going 90 mph in a 65 mph zone, and in the wrong direction…’Who did he think he was, Tiger Woods?

Manhattan Beach was trending on Twitter today….it’s about the state possibly returning land to descendants of Black family who had it unlawfully seized almost 100 years ago. Really wish I didn’t see a place name trending and immediately think “mass shooting.”

So has Fox News figured out a way to blame the St. Vincent volcano eruption on Biden yet?

Leaving aside that Hunter Biden has not been elected to anything, unlike Donnie Jr., Hunter has actually admitted he had a serious problem.

RIP Prince Philip. 99. Remembering when Queen Elizabeth talked about them being married 70 years, and she said no one knew what to call a 70th anniversary, because no one expected anyone to be married that long. (They made it over 73 years.
