Real winning!

January 20, 2021

Forget 21 gun salutes, those popping sounds you may hear tomorrow about 12:01pm could be 21 million champagne corks.

This morning on Morning Joe, Amy Klobuchar about Joe Biden going through with his public inaugural – “He’s not going to spend his presidency in a bunker because a mad angry mob was incited by this current president.” It’s going to be so great to have a leader again.

Remember when Trump ran in 2016. He told us up front he might not accept the election results if he lost. As Maya Angelou said -“When someone tells you who they are, believe them. The first time.”

I’m less frightened by the fact that 12 Army National Guard members (out of 25,000) were removed from inauguration duty, than if Army claimed they had an thorough investigation and said, Hah, we have zero potential problems in our ranks.

Despite the plagiarized speeches, Melania Trump will at least be remembered for one completely original statement: “Who gives a f*ck about Christmas?”

“The President of the United States pardoned a former Detroit mayor convicted of stealing $5 million from his city because Diamond and Silk told him to do it.” This is I think a sentence not a single journalist ever envisioned writing.

Lindsey Graham is the latest to say he won’t be attending Donald’s farewell ceremony. Will he be cleaning his closet?

Can’t wait until Mike Lindell can just go back to being known for making sh*tty pillows.

Tuesday morning, on Senate floor, Cory Booker was beautifully eulogizing Officer Brian Sicknick, who was killed by insurrectionists at the Capitol. Hoping there will be a video. Because this eulogy should be seen by people as often as the videos of the people behaving horribly that day.

So Velveeta Voldemort’s sendoff party he is throwing for himself (which will happen before anyone reads this) apparently has an optional “plus 5” invitation…. “Plus 5?” – puts an whole new spin on “polyamorous.”

Rachel Maddow talks about Donald “slinking out” out of the White House tomorrow at dawn. A long way from the trip down that 2015 golden escalator.

Jen Psaki is going to have press briefings every day. So those of us who have been going through withdrawal for real White House Press Briefings will no longer be forced to rely on C.J. Cregg in West Wing reruns.

Such a small mercy. But from this day forward OAN will no longer have a dispensation for a special pass to all White House Press conferences.

The Georgia runoffs feel like they were a year ago….

Now Josh Hawley has blocked quick consideration of Joe Biden’s DHS nominee Alejandro Mayorkas. Is Hawley afraid that a functioning Department of Homeland Security will start focusing on domestic threats including in Congress?

Countdown…

January 19, 2021

Watching football is supposed to be fun, right?

(Well, only silver lining of the Saints being out of the playoffs, it’s less stressful if you don’t care.)

New Mets GM Jared Porter acknowledges sending explicit images – unsolicited – to a female reporter when he worked for the Cubs.

Note to guys- don’t send unsolicited DPs.

Actually, note to guys – just don’t send DP’s period.

With the NBA, I’m a Spurs fan. If you want a big reason why, watch Spurs coach Gregg Popovich talk about Martin Luther King Jr.

https://news4sanantonio.com/sports/spurs-zone/watch-popovich-discusses-martin-luther-king-jrs-impact

Midnight thought: Probably only a problem for Anglophiles, but anyone else watching “The Crown” who knew how to pronounce Camilla (Cuh-MIL-la) Parker-Bowles’ name slipping up now because we’ve gotten used to Kamala (Comma-la)?

All reports indicate that Donald can’t even admit when he loses a round of golf. Why do some think he will ever admit losing the Presidency?

Realizing today, had Martin Luther King Jr. not been assassinated, today he would have only been 92 years old. (Younger than, for example Sidney Poitier, and of course, Betty White.)

Joe Biden & Dr. Biden volunteered at a food bank on MLK day of service. Thinking only time Donald would be interested in a food bank is if he thought one might give him a loan.

Have no problem vetting National Guard for the inaugural. Heck, as a waitress at Stanford Faculty Club in college I got vetted before I was allowed to serve Caspar Weinberger.

So Maddow says Trump doesn’t trust Pence to pardon him…. Gosh, who knew inciting your followers to hang your right-hand man might affect his potential loyalty.

Seriously, everything in the Capitol has CCTV and security systems. It’s pretty binary – did Lauren Boebert give a tour or not? (Pretty sure we know the answer.)

So Lindsay Graham, who licked Trump’s boots on a daily basis, and called Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger asking him to change votes, is blaming the Jan 6, insurrection on…. Nancy Pelosi? When McCain died he took Graham’s soul with him.

Took a quick look at Trump’s American Heroes statue garden list. Who’s gonna tell Donald that Ingrid Bergman was Swedish?

Rachel Maddow also reports that Donald is having an event at Joint Base Andrews at 8:00a on Inauguration Day, and that “so far, there haven’t been a lot of RSVP’s” Have to wonder if the prospect of the FBI attending to see who shows up has occurred to invitees.

Is it possible Melania Trump won’t invite Dr. Jill Biden for a walk-through of private living quarters on White House second and third floors, because Melania doesn’t spend enough time at the White House to know those rooms?

So when you buy a pardon from Donald Trump do you get a discount on a free COVID-19 vaccine?

If we want to give a last socially-distanced middle finger to Velveeta Voldemort, one very peaceful way to do it would be to give Joe Biden’s inaugural the highest ratings for a Presidential inauguration ever!

If you want to civilly argue politics with me I’m fine with that. If you want to disregard science and tell me masks don’t help stop the spread of COVID-19, well, then, I draw the line when stupidity puts lives at risk. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Young and old men.

January 17, 2021

Just pointing out that Baker Mayfield and Patrick Mahomes, opposing QBs for Browns-Chiefs game are TOGETHER only 50 years old. Only 8 years total more than Drew Brees, the youngster in Sundays Saints-Buccaneers matchup. #WhoDat

So in the two games since their big trade, Houston Rockets have beaten San Antonio Spurs, and then made a game of it today vs Spurs despite only having eight players. You’d almost think they weren’t too upset to see their superstar James Harden shipped out of town.

Happiest people watching Bills Ravens game going to half time tied 3-3. Anyone who bet the under. (49.5)

Sometimes the universe gives you a really hard act to follow. This will not be true for Pete Buttigieg with “Infrastructure Week.”

Now it’s California Democratic Rep. Lou Correa of California who has tested positive for Covid-19 after spending hours with GOP COVIDiots in lockdown. Correa will miss Joe Biden’s inaugural. In all seriousness can’t we charge these mask-mocking morons with reckless endangerment?

With so many Democratic members of Congress getting COVID-19 after being locked in room for hours Jan 6 with maskless morons, we KNOW at least one or more of those GOP reps also have COVID. But either they won’t get tested or won’t admit it. Because that would admit guilt.

So Press Secretary Barbie wants to spend more time lying to her family?

Ben Goldey, who was Lauren Boebert’s communication director for less than two weeks, has resigned. This is an exception to the axiom that a really short job stint can be a problem to explain on your resume.

Rep. Lauren Boebert needs another Communications director since hers quit after less than two weeks. Kayleigh McEnany is available.

ICYMI, in Secretary Azar’s resignation letter “Our remarkable response to the pandemic should not overshadow the many other successful efforts HHS has undertaken over the last three years.” Is self-delusion a REQUIREMENT to have joined Donald’s cabinet?

Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Theme Parks in Orlando has canceled Josh Hawley’s hate-fest weekend fundraiser. So how long until someone in GOP tries to reschedule at Portofino Landscaping in New Smyrna Beach, less than an hour away?

Btw, that fundraiser at the Portofino Bay Hotel was $1000 pp, or $5000 for up to a family of four for the weekend. But that was BEFORE actually paying for a room. And rooms at the Portofino Bay Hotel for that weekend start at over $600 a night including tax.

Economic anxiety my a**.

Even prosecutors said Dustin Higgs, executed on Trump’s orders, didn’t shoot anyone, but ordered his friend to kill victims. So what should be penalty for inciting armed mob? “If you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore we’re going to the Capitol.”

So if U.S. airlines are putting anyone who participated in the January 6 insurrection on a no-fly list, why are we allowing Trump to head home on Air Force One?

What used to be a weekend?

January 16, 2021

So little consistency now in this world. But after a 5-3 start, good to know that with 5 straight losses the NY Knicks have shown they are still the Knicks.

Seahawks WR Josh Gordon, who has been suspended repeatedly for marijuana & possibly other drugs, has been suspended indefinitely again after NFL rescinded his conditional reinstatement. If only Tom Brady needed another WR, Gordon might be starting Sunday.

You know it’s been a long pandemic when for the you’re irrationally thrilled because for the first time sincea about March 2020, Diet Orange Sunkist is back on the shelves. (Okay, now it’s “Zero Calorie Sunkist,” but whatever!)

My favorite trivia of the week: Last living president who skipped their successor’s swearing in? Andrew Johnson refused to attend the inaugural of Ulysses S. Grant in 1869 -following a failed impeachment that Grant had supported.

At this point there are so few rats left on the Trumptanic you’d almost think it was a special cruise for cats.

Anyone who reads mysteries is familiar with the “locked-room” concept where everyone is worried someone they know is a potential accomplice or even murderer. Didn’t expect this plot line to be playing out in the US Congress.

I’m so old I remember when Trump sycophants only left the White House when they were fired by tweet.

Is today’s bankruptcy announcement the first NRA statement that’s not about disavowing a mass shooting?

Lawyer for man arrested for throwing fire extinguishers at Capitol police – “He was not walking around with a six-foot spear, he was not physically attacking Capitol officers.” Right, and the officer who died after the attack was only hit with a…. fire extinguisher. WTAF?

Does anyone doubt that had the mob actually killed a member of Congress, Donald would have pretended sorrow but cheerfully used it as an excuse to declare martial law and keep himself in power? Scary to say, he might even have intended that.

So sounds like Ted Cruz will exercise his right to attend Joe Biden’s inauguration. Since we probably can’t stop him, is there a port a-potty near the stage, and can Inaugural Chairs Roy Blunt & Amy Klobuchar make sure Ted’s seated behind it?

After Joe Biden is sworn in & when during impeachment trial GOP Senators try to gaslight us as to Donald’s culpability in inciting mob on Jan 6, remember this Orwell quote: “Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.”

More biggest losers

January 15, 2021

Houston finally got rid of disgruntled prima donna James Harden. And for tonight’s game against 6-5 San Antonio, the 3-6 Rockets only had nine available players, with a combined salary of $34.9 million, while Harden was making $40 million. And they beat the Spurs.

(While I’m a big Spurs fan, have to admit, imagining Harden’s face makes the loss a little less hard to take.)

There’s a lot of competition for the “Dumbest Senator in Washington, D.C.” title but in less than two weeks I think we might be able to declare ex-football coach Tommy Tuberville the winner.

(Tuberville Thursday suggested that we just delay Biden’s inaugural until we get the virus a little more under control. Last month he talked about the three branches of government – “You know, the House, the Senate, and the executive.”)

Actually, there are several competitors for “Dumbest Senator in Washington, D.C.” – But Tuberville definitely should have a lock on “Rookie of the Year.”

Got a Democratic fundraising email “Sign our petition so we can get 25,000 signatures to get Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz to resign.” Seriously folks? You could get 25 MILLION signatures and those a**holes aren’t resigning. Got to vote them out or (we can dream) expel them.

So Tampa Bay got Tom Brady, Jacksonville will get Urban Meyer, and Palm Beach gets Donald Trump. What is it about a**holes ending up in Florida?.

Meanwhile over on State TV….Over 200 suspects and over 100 arrests from last week’s fatal insurrection. Fox News Headline “Left-wing activist who told Fox News he was at Capitol riot to ‘document’ arrested, charged.” And we wonder how people get brainwashed.

You know, not that I would necessarily believe them but it would help if all these Republican remembers of sedition caucus calling for “unity” and “healing” would preface it with “In order for duly-elected President Joe Biden to get off to the best possible start…”

CNN – “Melania Trump has spent the last weeks operating inside a gray area.” Does this mean her hairdresser quit too and she has issues with her roots? Meow.

Maybe all these people and cities who are owed money by Trump ought to consider hiring Stormy Davis as a consultant. She’s the only one Donald who actually paid after he scr*wed them.

One of the arrested Capitol mob today “In the moment I thought I was doing the right thing.” That excuse doesn’t even get you out of a DUI let along a fatal insurrection.

As NYC severs ties with Donald including Central Park ice rinks & the carousel, how long until we view Trump Tower like Villa Torlonia, the Rome home of the Mussolini family?

Washington Post reports “Workers seen hanging blue “2021 Biden Harris Inauguration” banners just outside White House gates in advance of next week’s festivities. Some of signage was clearly visible from inside White House. ” Can they put some of the banners FACING White House?

Delta Air Lines has put 880 people on its no-fly list from the insurrection in DC last week and for bad behavior during the pandemic. Now can they do Eric, Don Jr. and Ivanka and keep them off the NY to DC shuttle?

You know when you leave Costco, and they have have people check what’s in your cart against your receipts? That’s what Secret Service should be doing with Trump family moving boxes to check what they’re taking from the White House.

Off the line.

January 14, 2021

Green Bay took advantage of a loophole with NFL COVID-19 “practice squad” rules to sign OT Jared Veldheer, who just played for the Colts last weekend, to play for them this weekend against the Rams. Except now Veldheer himself has tested positive. Maybe mean bitch Karma is following the NFL playoffs.

Harden, Irving and Durant on the same team? Yes, they are all NBA stars. And I really like Steve Nash. But really hope his insurance has good mental health coverage.

Back in college, Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger spoke at a Stanford Faculty Club dinner. As a waitress that night I had to give personal information two weeks in advance & go through a more careful security check than some of these pro-insurrection GOP Members of Congress.

If Mitch McConnell had another right-wing judge he desperately wanted to ram through you betcha he’d find a way to reconvene the Senate before January 19.

Who ever thought we’d live to see the day when Rep. Steny Hoyer would be quoting Liz Cheney?

I missed all these GOP calls for unity and healing BEFORE January 6.

Lauren Boebert is proof that women politicians can be as equally horrible as men. Period.

Bit of trivia “On July 17, 1970, New Orleans Airport (MSY) became 1st airport to use magnetometers to detect weapons—or anything made of metal. So Lauren Boebert, 34, has never taken a commercial fight in her life w/o a metal detector. And she’s throwing a tantrum in Capitol?

Groundhog Day was much more fun when it was a movie and not a well-justified impeachment vote.

We KNOW Donald didn’t write his video statement today. He called it COVID-19 and not the “China Virus.”

We have the TSA due to 9-11 terrorists. We have to take off our footwear due to the Shoe Bomber. And in future we’ll have to go through incredible security to visit the Capitol due to Donald Trump.

Well, if nothing else Donald’s “Trump” brand has now eclipsed “New Coke” as the best known brand failure in U.S history.

Now it’s Rudy Giuliani who Donald is upset with and saying he won’t pay. Truly amazing that the buses can run in DC with all the people Velveeta Voldemort has thrown under them.

Is there anyone willing to defend Donald at this point who isn’t a complete and total a**hole?

Switching gears?

January 13, 2021

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers says he’ll be a ‘Jeopardy!’ guest host. I’m sure both Rams and Saints fans would be fine if he started taping this weekend.

Kyrie Irving may be prohibiting from playing in NBA for a while as videos have emerged of him unmasked reportedly at a family birthday party. So the Brooklyn Nets star who believes the earth is flat doesn’t believe in science either? I am shocked, shocked.

Gym Jordan is ignoring what happened last week at the Capitol as if the rioters just abused college wrestlers.

How did we get to a world where I’m agreeing with Bill Belichick and Liz Cheney in the same 24 hours?

I’m so old I remember that the worst President I could imagine was a Cheney.

0

So if the mob Trump incited only got so far as to accost Pence and put him in zip tie handcuffs, but not actually taken him to those gallows, would the VP still be defending his boss?

-Rachel Maddow tonight keeps talking about the fatal mob attack on the Capitol asking “Mr. President, did you think it would work?” And the obvious but frightening answer. “YES! He did.”

Hillary’s actual quote from 2016 “You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables.” And thinking, for those still supporting Donald, I’d say only “half” is generous.

I have many issues with Joe Manchin, but in West Virginia if he were to leave his (GOP) replacement would be much worse. Remember Louisiana. Went from conservative Democrat Mary Landrieu to John Kennedy (one of the Seditious Six Senators.). Big tents are messy.

Meanwhile, while the soon to be former occupant of the White House remains silent, Washington Post now reports over 4,200 deaths today. Uh, this is not exactly how it should have gone that “You won’t hear more about COVID-19 after November 3.”

You can either go down in history as a patriot or a p***y

Bronze those medals.

January 12, 2021

All the awful things Donald has done and now I have to add the trivial “Make me grudgingly say ANYTHING nice about the cheating Patriots’ head coach…” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick says he’s turning down Trump’s Medal of Freedom.

So is Velveeta Voldemort going to try to get Tom Brady next to accept that slightly tainted Presidential Medal of Freedom?

As a college football fan who boycotted season because I didn’t think they should have played, would have nonetheless felt a bit wistful if I missed watching a great playoff game. Fortunately that didn’t happen. Margins of victory were 17 & 21 points in semis, 28 points tonight.

On Saturday, after the fatal insurrection at the Capitol, Kentucky basketball players and coach John Calipari knelt on the sideline before their game to protest social injustice.

And they were attacked on social media, one sheriff in the state burned Final Four commemorative t-shirts and some local politicians called for the University to be defunded.

Again, AFTER the mob stormed our Capitol. And we wonder how the state re-elected Mitch McConnell?

So Rep. Lauren Boebert has made a big deal out of carrying a Glock for protection in the Capitol. Somehow I missed the pictures of her using that Glock to try to help protect her colleagues against the mob during the insurrection on January 6?

Meanwhile, this sounds like something Belichick would dream up… and get away with: Jared Veldneer started for the Colts Saturday against the Bills, now due to some unusual COVID-19 restrictions (he was officially on the practice squad although he played,) Veldneer has been signed by the Packers and will play THIS Sunday in Green Bay.

The Eagles have fired coach Doug Pederson. He is available for any team looking to tank 2021 season for the top 2022 NFL draft pick.

Now three gorillas at San Diego Zoo have tested positive for COVID-19. Don’t throw out those batsh*t bingo cards.

It takes about 10 days for COVID-19 vaccines to start taking effect. As two House Representatives already tested positive thanks to unmasked COVIDiots with them in lockdown, that decision to vaccinate all members of Congress is looking better and better.

So Pence doesn’t think Donald has been unstable enough for 25th Amendment. If Trump’s mob had succeeded in injuring a member of Congress would that have been sufficient? Or would it have had to be murder? Or many murders? Asking for a country that is really tired of this sh*t.

“They were hunting for lawmakers of both parties.” Ted Lieu on Rachel Maddow: Yes, the mob had top targets, but does anyone think they wouldn’t have attacked any member of Congress they didn’t recognize as part of their sedition caucus?

CNN reports Donald does not think he should be blamed for the violence at his mob insurrection at the Capitol. Uh, has Trump ever accepted blame for ANYTHING?

John Kasich says he’s glad that other Republicans have come on board in condemning Trump, but “we shouldn’t give medals to those who jump off the ship just before it hits the rocks.”

One Capitol police officer has been arrested and two suspended. Can you say “tip of the iceberg?”

Now close to 100 arrests for the coup attempt. As a former student of history in college, one thing I know that generally happens after insurrections – they arrest the LEADER if they can find him! Pretty sure we know where Donald is.

So at least with the bans, Twitter hopes not to be known in future as the place where domestic terrorists are radicalized.

Battle for the Aged.

January 11, 2021

Buccaneers vs. Saints will be the late playoff game next Sunday night, starting 640p on the East Coast. Brady 43, against Brees, 42.

So a tough pre-game decision for both QBs – Early Bird Special dinner – or nap?

Bears score TD on last play of game but with the clock having run out they don’t go for an extra point. (NFL rules say it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t affect the game.) Saints win by 12.

The spread was 11. If the Bears had scored with a few seconds left they either kick an extra point to make it a push (tie) or they go for two, making Chicago betters winners.

Why I don’t bet on football.

PGA has now taken 2022 championship away from Trump Bedminster Course. If Donald cared about golf he’d be really upset about that.

Makes a certain amount of sense that Velveeta Voldemort is giving the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Bill Belichick. Belichick is one of our country’s top examples in successfully cheating to win.

How can you remove a President with less than two weeks to go? I don’t know, how do you confirm a lifetime SCOTUS appointment that quickly?

Former Florida Governor Charlie Crist left the GOP in 2010. Now he’s a trendsetter!

On CNN today, Colin Powell, “I no longer consider myself a Republican.” Who’s next?

So the same GOP clutching their pearls over a private social media company banning their leader. who still wants to overthrow democracy, have no problem with a private bakery refusing to bake cakes for gay couples who want to get married. Got it.

Chris Christie is the latest previous Trump ally to call for impeachment. Who else still has the thought “Wonder what viciousness Donald will tweet about THAT? Oh wait, never mind.”

Gab -“American alt-tech social networking service. Widely described as haven for extremists- neo-Nazis, white supremacists & alt-right, it attracts users & groups banned from other social networks” – Wikipedia Donald’s base. Wonder how many of them can afford to join Mar-A-Lago.

Stripe is refusing to process payments for Trump’s campaign store. For anyone thinking Square, their rival, might step up to fill the breach – the CEO of Square is…. Jack Dorsey. (also CEO of Twitter.)

Seriously Roy Blunt? “The president touched the hot stove on Wednesday and is unlikely to touch it again.” So this is the 2021 version of Susan Collins’ “I think he’s learned his lesson? WTF?

Still Spurred on.

January 10, 2021

Early days. But the over-under on Spurs wins in Las Vegas for a 72 game season was 28.5. It is my serious non-snarky opinion that there is not a single NBA team Gregg Popovich couldn’t coach to 29 wins this season.

The Washington Football Team, with an injured quarterback leader, AND a losing record, turns out to have had a much more legitimate chance than Velveeta Voldemort of pulling off an unexpected win this week.

I already miss those long ago days when many of us could focus our outrage this weekend on #6 seed Buccaneers w/ Tom Brady getting to face the worst team in the NFL playoffs… You know, like last week?

If we need a reminder of how sometimes we Democrats need to get together and strongly back our candidates in purple states/districts, I KNOW Claire McCaskill is a moderate who many in left-wing of party didn’t support. And when she lost Missouri got Josh Hawley.

Airlines have names & personal details of many of those who traveled to Washington DC for Trump’s insurrection/coup and broke into the Capitol. Putting anyone arrested on a no-fly list would be a good measure towards ensuring the safety of all decent Americans.

While he’s banned from most sites, has anyone checked to see if Trump is trying to sell the White House china on Ebay?

On 3rd day in office, GOP Rep. Mary Miller, trying to block certification of Biden’s win- “This is the battle. Hitler was right on 1 thing. He said, ´Whoever has the youth has the future.” She now says some are “twisting her words.” As if there’s ANY decent way to quote Hitler.

Just realizing, for all of us who have ever thought we had the “worst boss ever,” Trump’s trying to have Pence killed might have raised the bar out of reach forever.

If one of that mob had actually injured a member of Congress or worse, do you think any of Velveeta Voldemort’s other elected cult members would have disowned him?

So some in GOP are warning Biden that if Democrats proceed with impeachment it “would inflame Trump supporters.” Uh, “inflame” as opposed to what?

Still think there was more outrage from Democrats over their President’s consensual affair than there has been from Republicans for their President’s fatal coup attempt.

Slouching towards Saturday.

January 9, 2021

Meanwhile, back in sports, Michigan signed football coach Jim Harbaugh to a five-year extension. To be fair this WAS the first year the Wolverines didn’t lose to Ohio State.

RIP Tommy Lasorda. When SF Giants fans booed him loudly at Candlestick Park, he used to smile and tip his cap, seemed to love every minute of it. So I hope he’s getting a standing ovation of boos from Giants fans today in heaven.

Friday should have been about Alex Trebek’s last episode on Jeopardy. His last words: “Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for spending the time with us. We’ll see you again next week.”

Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski told Anchorage Daily News that Donald should resign and says if GOP is nothing more than the party of Trump, she questions whether she can remain a Republican.

I disagree with Senator Lisa Murkowski on MANY things, but if she leaves the GOP now over them not disavowing Trump, I promise I will, even as a staunch Democrat, make a small donation to her re-election campaign. Who’s with me?

Before the riots started on January 6, Oliver Darcy of CNN pointed out that Fox News showed Ted Cruz’s speech about election being “rigged”, but not Chuck Schumer’s speech preceding him, nor Amy Klobuchar’s rebuttal. And we wonder how people end up in the Trump cult.

So since Donald spent years convincing Americans it was the scariest threat they could imagine, can we start referring to Trump’s mob who attacked the Capitol as a “caravan?”

Since we need to laugh – one of my favorite stories during this rough week is one MAGA rioter being fired, because he was identified by HIS WORK BADGE, which he wore while attacking and entering the Capitol.

By now deleting his account, and his tweets from @POTUS accounts, Twitter has shown they actually mean to stand up to Donald Trump more than most of the GOP.

Shouldn’t be hard to figure out Velveeta Voldemort’s alternative secret account. Look for a random account with 70 million new Russian bot followers.

So how much will Donald up the prenup if Melania gives him her Twitter password?

Now Ted Cruz says he has disagreed with Trump’s language and rhetoric for years. If Ted weren’t so unlikable that would be a great opener for a comedy routine.

Rachel Maddow reports that Mitch McConnell says he would not convene an impeachment trial until January 19. So much for all those who praised Mitch’s “new tone” on January 6. Once a sycophant, always a sycophant.

I’ve seen Joe Biden speak twice in person. To be honest, both times I thought he was kind of boring. Words cannot express how much I miss boring.

Donald’s handling of COVID-19 will result in hundreds of thousands more deaths than shooting one person in the middle of 5th Avenue. But was the death of Brian Sicknick, a Capitol Police Officer, FINALLY enough to make some of his supporters abandon Trump?

Spurred on.

January 8, 2021

And who had the San Antonio Spurs winning back to back games in January…. against the Clippers AND the Lakers.

Now all you liars put your hands down.

Tennessee-Chattanooga today fired assistant football coach Chris Malone for a racist tweet mocking Stacey Abrams. I’m not so naive as to imagine there aren’t plenty of racists in sports, but to put it in a public tweet? That’s grounds for firing both for racism AND stupidity.

Rachel Maddow says we’ve all aged 30 years in the last 4 years. Four years? Feels like we’ve all aged 30 years in the last four months.

So is it too late to start a game of Trump Cabinet resignation bingo?

So can you invoke the 25th Amendment if there aren’t enough Cabinet members left for a quorum? Asking for a really tired country.

Not seeing this really discussed, but think HUGE reason Joe Biden waited to pick Garland – Merrick sits on important DC Court of Appeals. Garland would always have been an easy AG confirmation, but if Dems hadn’t won GA Senate, McConnell would’ve replaced him w/another unqualified right-winger like Justin Walker

Dana Bash was talking about Donald Trump’s “new tone?” Please. The only new tone Donald ever has is when he switches brands of spray-tan.

These last minute resignations from Trump administration remind me of Bruce Ismay. For the uninitiated, Ismay was Chairman of White Star Line, approved reduction from 48 to 16 lifeboats for Titanic, ignored ice warnings while aboard… & still ended up in one of last lifeboats.

Betsy Devos followed Elaine Chao by resigning today. So looks like it’s going to be women first into the Trumptanic lifeboats.

Give Betsy Devos credit. During her tenure as Secretary of Education, no children were killed by grizzly bears.

Meanwhile, over on state TV here’s headline “Time to Heal – Trump condemns Capitol rioters, calls for calm, vows to ensure ‘seamless transition of power’ For some reason Fox didn’t cover trump telling rioters he loved them & they were special. Sure it’s just an oversight.

Meanwhile, anyone remember how Velveeta Voldemort said we wouldn’t hear about COVID-19 starting Nov 4? After today, another almost 4,100 people will never hear about anything ever again.

So Velveeta Voldemort is also going to Camp David for the weekend. One simple solution to this mess is to change the White House locks.

Crooks and traitors are stupid alert: The man who stole the Speaker’s podium reportedly put it up for sale on eBay. (Ebay eventually removed the listening.) But I am sure prosecutors appreciate Ebay having all his contact information.

Meanwhile, the death toll, so far, at yesterday’s attempted coup attempt was one more than Benghazi. So we should have AT LEAST as many hearings and investigations into it? And Donald, after he leaves office should have to testify the same as Hillary, right.

Crickets from Velveeta Voldemort & many of his Congressional sycophants on the death of the Capitol Police Officer tonight. I guess I misunderstood – Blue Lives only Matter when they’re going after Black and Brown people?

Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, hit in head w/ fire extinguisher by one of Trump’s MAGA mob, died tonight. His brother said he served in Operation Desert Shield & Operation Enduring Freedom. So he survived fighting foreign terrorism to be murdered by domestic terrorists.

Numbers and bigger numbers.

January 7, 2021

Wednesday night, Bradley Beal set a career high with 60 points against 76ers, but his Wizards still lost 136-141.

So yet another time someone from Washington set a personal best and still came in second.

(Yes, 75 million votes also definitely loses to 81 million.)

Bummer that the Spurs didn’t play Wednesday night. Really wanted someone to put a microphone in front of Gregg Popovich.

DC Police said something like 52 arrests now. 52 arrests? As a long time #SFGiants fan I remember more than 15 arrests during an average Giants Dodgers game at Candlestick.

“A selfish man’s injured pride” – Mitt Romney just summed up the reasons for this charade and for the riots in DC today.

Once again, as a Stanford alum can I call upon the university to rescind Josh Hawley’s degree? Along with Yale Law School. Ditto Princeton and Harvard Law School with Ted Cruz.

How do these house Republicans say they rise with “a heavy heart,” when they have clearly demonstrated they don’t HAVE a heart?

Wednesday night, 132 Republicans members of the House just voted against their own elections/re-elections this November being valid.

Your reminder, and with all-caps since that’s the language some seem to understand: All the voting changes that Pennsylvania GOP cult members are railing against were PUT IN PLACE BY GOP PENNSYLVANIA LEGISLATURE.

To paraphrase a quote about Charles I at his execution: Nothing in Mike Pence’s Vice Presidency so became him as presiding over the leaving of it.

Nancy Pelosi and Mike Pence giving each other an elbow bump was unexpectedly somehow sweet. Don’t tell Mother.

Donald had his account suspended for 12 hours today. You know, I always kind of thought the standards for keeping an active account on Twitter were lower than for keeping the nuclear codes.

I’m so old I remember when some people thought it was an exaggeration to compare Trump to Hitler and Jim Jones.

So the results are certified. Can we now call Trump and the GOP “The Gang that Couldn’t Coup Straight?

One of many things to look forward to now in 2021 is that Mitch McConnell will HAVE to vote on Merrick Garland.

I’m so old I remember watching live and thinking the most memorable part of Wednesday, January 6, might be Amy Klobuchar once again eviscerating Ted Cruz.

I think for millions of Americans “Dry January” has just been canceled.

Georgia on my mind…

January 6, 2021

ESPN headline for my friends and readers who care nothing about sports “Atlanta Dream co-owner Kelly Loeffler loses U.S. Senate runoff race to Raphael Warnock.”

So Kelly Loeffler, whose entire WNBA team, the Atlanta Dream publicly endorsed her opponent, has been voted out of the Senate. If she wants a team more fitting with her loser persona maybe she could buy the Atlanta Falcons.

So there was a Heisman Trophy ceremony today?

But sure, professional athletes are responsible enough to observe COVID-19 protocols- another other ESPN headline –

As the Browns approach their first playoff game in forever, Browns LT Jedrick Wills Jr and WR Rashard Higgins cited for drag racing (presumably each other) Tuesday am.

Never been a big fan of reality TV, but at this point I do miss days when Kanye West and Kim Kardashian getting a divorce would have been the biggest story on social media.

Not that I expected charges to have been filed in the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, who was unarmed. But seven shots. Just wonder if how many shots the officer might have had to fire for it to have been considered reckless or excessive?

Meanwhile, if Kyle Rittenhouse were black he wouldn’t have been arraigned today either. He’d be dead.

NY Times compares Mike Pence’s role on January 6 as that of an Academy Awards presenter reading the winner. Have to assume Donald is now frantically trying to replace VP Pence with Warren Beatty.

Open note to @CNN. Want to guarantee I change the channel? Put Rick Santorum on.

So will soon-to-be-former Senator Kelly Loeffler take her private plane to Washington DC to vote to support a coup by a soon-to-be-former President who probably hurt her re-election chances? Asking for a friend who needs to know how much popcorn to buy.

Meanwhile, over on Fox News “Warnock declares victory in Georgia runoff, but Loeffler says she has ‘path to victory’” Does this mean Kelly got some inside tips on which stocks will do better in a Blue Senate?

When hotels have rooms available last minute they tend to lower prices at least to be competitive: Washington DC hotels Jan 6 now almost all under $400. Except Trump hotel DC – STILL $5166.43 counting tax per night. Nonrefundable. This isn’t a hotel stay, it’s a donation.

Size doesn’t always matter:

January 5, 2021

Donald Trump saying he won many states because of rally sizes is like the Knicks saying they’ve won many NBA championships because they’ve always sold out Madison Square Garden.

Former Wisconsin QB Jack Coan announced he is transferring to Notre Dame. Give him credit, in the ESPN story story announcing the transfer he doesn’t even pretend academics are involved.

So after last night’s in game tank job can Philadelphia’s NFL team change their song to “Lie Down Like an Eagle?”

Chargers fired coach Anthony Lynn after a 7-9 season. Clearly Lynn’s biggest mistake – not figuring out a way to move the team to the NFC East.

Liz Cheney on Raffensperger tape ” It was deeply troubling, & I think everybody ought to listen to the full hour of it. I think it’s deeply troubling & I’m just going to leave it at that.” As if Donald hasn’t done enough awful things, now I have to grudgingly respect Liz Cheney?

Thomas Friedman nails a question with Anderson Cooper about Trump sycophants desperately seeking his favor: “Does someone like Josh Hawley think Donald will endorse him over Don Jr? Or Ivanka.

Before the Georgia rally Hannity on Fox News talking about what a crime it is that Hillary hasn’t been prosecuted for her emails and how corrupt the FBI has been. And we wonder why cult members think the way they do…

David Perdue says RECORDING Trump’s call with Raffensperger was “disgusting”, not the call itself. So I’ve clearly missed all Perdue’s outrage over the wrongs done to Richard Nixon.

Learn something every day – Georgia’s wiretapping law is “one-party consent” law for purposes of making audio recordings of conversations. Not a crime to secretly record phone call from any private place” if one party to conversation consents. #TrumpTape

Dear Joe Biden. Can you give Gabriel Sterling a medal? Sincerely, America.

This isn’t getting enough attention. An aide to Georgia SoS Raffensperger on why they recorded call with Trump: “Lindsey Graham asked us to throw out legally cast ballots. So yeah, after that call, we decided maybe we should do this.”

Video now of Kelly Loeffler campaigning this weekend at an indoor mask-less rally.Well, as a Senator she’s been vaccinated. So I guess COVID-19 to her is like insider trading… different rules apply to her.

Is it a requirement if you are a woman in Velveeta Voldemort’s orbit that you have to speak in a breathy little girl voice? Asking for adult women in this country.

Listening to Donald throw him under the bus Georgia Governor Brian Kemp must almost be wishing he hadn’t suppressed all those votes and just let Stacey Abrams rightfully win the 2018 race.

Amy Klobuchar on with Rachel Maddow Monday night said both North Dakota senators have come out saying they are not joining the coup.

That statement shouldn’t ever have to be written. The election is over and has been over for a long time. But good news.

Tank Engine?

January 4, 2021

If Donald really wanted someone to hand him a win in Pennsylvania he should have just hired Doug Pederson.

As annoyed as NY Giants must be at Eagles tanking against Washington, the Giants would be more deserving of sympathy if their record was better than 6-10.

Sorry Donald, only in the NFL do you have a chance to be in Washington DC and win with a losing record.

Minnesota Vikings beat the Detroit Lions 37-35 to finish 7-9, and QB Kirk Cousins said afterwards “We were really close to being in the playoffs.”

Well, close as in geographically Minneapolis really is East of Dallas, so technically could have been in the NFC East.

Fox News headline: “Trump urges Georgia election official to overturn Biden’s win in the state: report.”

Also Fox News headline: “McCarthy lays into Pelosi and Dems for being out of touch with reality.”

So who’s going to be the first Republican who calls Donald’s conversation with Raffensperger “locker room banter?”

At this point if Trump calls and you don’t record the conversation, you’re an idiot. Period.

For some reason this story came to mind today: In 1958, then Senator John F. Kennedy claimed at Gridiron Club Dinner to be reading a telegram from his father “Dear Jack: Don’t buy a single vote more than necessary. I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay for a landslide.”

Not sure which mistake looks worse now…. Missouri voting out Claire McCaskill for Josh Hawley, or Texas reelecting Ted Cruz when they could have had Beto O’Rourke.

Ted Cruz, when asked about #TrumpTape – “I get the media wants to report all sorts of things and get everyone distracted by whatever else is going on.” I forget, exactly how many times did Cruz try to investigate Hillary’s emails and Benghazi?

Reports that Mitch McConnell told GOP senators that he is giving them room to vote their consciences on election objections. All together now – “WHAT CONSCIENCES?”

Apparently Chuck Todd cut short Ron Johnson’s appearance on “Meet The Press” today, & accused the WI Senator of spreading conspiracy theories. Uh, if Todd didn’t want Johnson to spread conspiracy theories, why have him on the show at all?

On July 4, 2018, eight GOP Senators visited Moscow. Three of them were Steve Daines (MT), John Kennedy (LA) and Ron Johnson (WI). Coincidence?

Worst thing about Cynthia Lummis and Marsha Blackburn – . they keep the rest of us women from being able to put most of what’s wrong to politics down to stupid men.

The 12 GOP Senate traitors backing Trump do realize that Velveeta Voldemort not only won’t thank them, but also he will throw every single one of them under the bus at some point when they are no longer useful to him?

Your reminder, more Democrats condemned Bill Clinton over a consensual affair than Republicans are condemning Donald Trump’s efforts to destroy democracy.

Last fall, Mary Trump warned us.

In 2016 Hillary Clinton warned us.

They were right about everything.

Not close and no cigar.

January 2, 2021

Boycotting watching college football this season (don’t think they should be playing), but do check scores. Who’d a thunk Notre Dame, outclassed as usual in CFP, would still lose by less to Alabama than Clemson did to Ohio State?

Not an Ohio State fan, at all, But with Dabo Swinney having ranked them 11th with his vote in the Coaches Amway poll, where does that put Clemson, after the Buckeyes beat the Tigers 49-28? 13th or 14th?

Nothing is certain but death, taxes and Notre Dame getting blown out in the College Football Playoffs.

San Antonio Spurs tonight have all kinds of cool colored shoes to match their new retro Fiesta jerseys that feature a multicolored stripe – teal, pink and orange… Not sure how I feel about the jerseys, but the shoes are awesome.

Hey, No Fun League… take note.

Can we bleeping STOP with the idea that Trump wanted or wants $2,000 COVID relief checks. If Donald did he would have ordered Mnuchin to negotiate for them. The only thing Velveeta Voldemort wanted was to blow up the compromise bill and put attention back on himself.

So some in media complaining today that Biden’s Treasury Secretary pick Janet Yellen made $7.2 million in speaking fees over past two years.

Uh, almost all US former politicians and leaders end up commanding big money on the speaker circuit. Even former Presidents and VPs. Wonder why it’s only people like Hillary Clinton and Janet Yellen that get slammed for it?

Ohio governor Mike DeWine signed a bill from the GOP legislature requiring women to choose burial or cremation of aborted fetal tissue.

Okay then…being a woman I can’t quite relate, but I want to know where men and teenage boys should bury or burn the sheets after some of those dreams I hear about.

Wonder who drew the short straw and got to explain the concept of overturning a veto to Donald Trump?

On Friday, one of Donald’s tweet targets was Senate Whip John Thune…( I really don’t care, do u? )

But note, Thune is only 59. GOP at least seems to have figured out all their leadership doesn’t need to be over 70.

It’s not just that Velveeta Voldemort has Twitter typos. It’s that he’s too arrogant even to be corrected by spellcheck.

Louie Gohmert’s lawsuit argued VP has the power to pick the next president. If that were true don’t you think Joe Biden would have picked Hillary Clinton?

Happy no longer old year.

January 1, 2021

Not watching college football in 2020-21 season, because I while I think NFL players are both old enough and well paid enough to make those decisions for themselves, college athletes are both not paid (officially anyway) and too young /immature to make potentially life risking decisions re covid:.

But doesn’t mean I can’t write jokes about New Year’s Day CFP games. Stay tuned.

(It’s easier if you really don’t like any of the teams playing.)

And following the Armed Forces Bowl in Ft Worth, Mississippi State and Tulsa players got into an actual physical brawl. Only one injury. So far. At least the contact tracing should be easy.

I’m so old that I remember when Kobe and Gianna Bryant’s death in that helicopter crash was the worst thing about 2020.

One advantage to virtual New Year’s Eve. Never a line for the bathroom.

“There comes a time in every woman’s life when the only thing that helps is a glass of champagne.” Bette Davis – who died in 1989,

But this could have been a quote of the year in 2020.

NY Times reporting that distribution is going so badly several million COVID-19 vaccine doses could well expire before they can be put to use. Sadly, why should we expect ANYTHING Trump administration does be done competently?

Just guessing this New Year we won’t be blindly writing 2020 by mistake on our checks.

CNN reports as many as 140 GOP members of the House may vote against certifying electoral college results. So if the November election was invalid, when are they all resigning?

For those of us wondering what political campaigns to work on next, any Democrat running against one of 140 House members who reportedly support Velveeta Voldemort’s electoral college steal, would be a good start.

WTF? Reports that in Lexington, KY, “suspicious” RV sighting, which turned out not to contain a bomb, caused police to evacuate bars downtown. So what exactly were people DOING in bars downtown? Seriously folks, let’s try to make survival a goal in 2021.

New Year’s Eve is a strange time to be a night owl. Almost everyone is up until midnight. And almost everyone is asleep by 12:30am.

Small fierce mercies.

December 31, 2020

Tonight Becky Hammon, who is all of 5’6″, became the first woman to coach an NBA game. After Gregg Popovich got tossed, pointed at her, and told her “You’ve got ’em.” The Spurs were playing the Lakers, and were down 11 when Pop got ejected in the second quarter. They only lost by three so overall she did better than he did.-

And Lebron James, doing his hard to hate persona –  “Tonight was a case where she got to step in and show her work, show her talents and her love for the game, and obviously, what she did as a player, first of all, we all know that. So her mind was able to transfer to our league, and she’s been great ever since she got in. It’s a beautiful thing just to hear her barking out calls, barking out sets, and she’s very passionate about the game, so congrats to her and congrats to the league.”

Becky of course, said she’d have rather walked out of there with a win.

Meanwhile, in one of the most 2020 sports stories ever, the Wisconsin Badgers actually made it to a bowl game, the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, won the game, got the trophy – made of Lenox Crystal. And then while celebrating the win in the locker room, yes, their star QB DROPPED it.

Can we call this Cinco de Mayo trophy?

John Cornyn today asks -“Remind me, why would we want to borrow $$ from our children & grandchildren to send a check to someone who hasn’t suffered financial hardship related to #COVID19”? Uh, why should we borrow from them to give a tax cut to someone who didn’t need a tax cut?

Mitch McConnell says the Senate “won’t be bullied” on stimulus checks. Pretty rich considering that Mitch is basically the Biff Tannen of Senate politics.

Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue have been against ANY stimulus checks since April, now they claim, without explanation for their change of heart, that $600 isn’t enough.

I almost like their lies about insider trading better.

500 doses of Moderna vaccine had to be thrown away in Wisconsin after being removed from refrigeration. While it was originally called “human error,” hospital said today employee admitted to doing it intentionally & has been fired. Wonder who that former employee voted for?

Police are now saying they did “everything they could, legally” to investigate 2019 tip that Nashville bomber was building explosives. Explosives! Wasn’t it a tip simply about drugs that led Louisville police to break into Breonna Taylor’s apartment?

WTF Missouri? – Going from Senator Claire McCaskill to Senator Josh Hawley is like giving up your seat in business class for the middle seat in coach next to the lavatories.

F*ck 2020. Now Dawn Wells, 82, Mary Ann on Gilligan’s Island, has died of COVID. 2020 really has been a “three-hour tour” of a year.

Americans making up to $75,000 a year getting $2,000 in a pandemic is an abomination, but millionaires getting a tax cut is patriotic? The Gospel according to today’s GOP.

Bright shiny object alert: So far at least media is paying more attention to Senator Josh Hawley’s planned seditious stunt than to Senator Amy Klobuchar, ranking member on rules committee, calmly explaining the stunt will waste time but won’t ultimately matter.

Another reason we need more women in office – the best women politicians right now recognize Velveeta Voldemort’s wild actions right now for what they are…. a more than month long tantrum. And the best way to deal with a tantrum is not to take the toddler too seriously.

CNN’s Don Lemon asks Amy Klobuchar about those in GOP still contesting election -“How much more proof do they need?” Her response: They’re just messing around, because they’re afraid of Donald Trump.” or as she calls Donald in my favorite of Amy’s descriptions of him “this guy.”

Is part of reason Donald is returning to DC early that he realized today he can always hang out at Mar-A-Lago but he has to be out of White House in 3 weeks?

Saying that masks don’t work because people still get COVID-19 is like saying seatbelts don’t work because people still die in car crashes.

Not bowled over:

December 30, 2020

Apparently there were two more bowl games tonight?

Unless your alma mater is playing, in 2020 does anyone really care?

Random thought. The NBA season is very young. But there appear to be some very bad teams.

Wonder if the Washington Wizards could beat the Washington Generals?

Arizona’s men’s basketball program has self-imposed a one-year postseason ban, stemming from an investigation into their recruiting. Translation- this year barely counts and Arizona hopes NCAA will accept their false contrition and not notice they deserve worse.

Louisiana Congressman-elect Luke Letlow, 41, died tonight of COVID-19. While he never identified publicly as a huge football fan, the New Orleans Saints tweeted out condolences

That moment when an NFL team acts more Presidential than POTUS.

Meanwhile, more from Florida Gov Ron DeSantis, who has prioritized anyone 65 & older, even part-time Florida residents, over essential workers for COVID vaccine, said it makes “no sense for someone that’s 42 to jump ahead of somebody that’s 70 years old.” Luke Letlow was 41.

The evening that a 41 year old newly-elected congressman from Louisiana who aligned himself with Trump died of COVID, Donald was up tweeting until 2a. Not to send condolences to Luke Letlow’s family, but to rant again, about fake voter fraud..

The fact that Pedialyte is trending on twitter as an advance cure for hangovers and that Cardi B is involved tells you much of what you need to know about 2020.

If any Republican really wanted $2,000 checks for Americans all they would have to do is get a couple colleagues to join them in temporarily becoming Democrats, put Schumer in charge for a day, pass bill, then switch back to GOP. IF they really wanted to give Americans the $$$.

Bill Clinton’s law license was suspended and he was forced to resign from Supreme Court bar over lying about a consensual affair. Meanwhile Trump’s legal team keeps on filing insane challenges, including to Supreme Court & keeps losing. When do they get suspended or disbarred?

Is anyone surprised that the same man who blamed the states for all his own failure with ventilators, testing, etc, is now blaming states for his failure with vaccine distribution?

Gambino mob boss Peter Gotti lost a second bid for compassionate release so he says “he can spend his final days with family.” If Gotti had only made a big enough donation to Donald Trump he’d have been free for Christmas.

While most hotels in town are discounting, hotel rooms at Trump Hotel Wash. DC on Jan. 5 & 6, when Congress certifies Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory, are going for $4495.00 a night plus tax & up. So how many rooms does someone have to book to get a pardon?
