The way the ping pong ball may bounce?

December 12, 2019

Who’d a thunk the Knicks and Warriors would be playing in December 2019 in a battle for both teams with lottery seeding implications?

University of Phoenix has agreed to a $191 million settlement, including $141 million in loan forgiveness, with FTC over deceptive advertising,
Gosh, to make up all that $$$ University of Phoenix will have to schedule a lot of football games against SEC teams.

Hey SF Giants, I  know it’s a rebuilding time, But, hey ,the stadium is paid off, and you could recapture a lot of goodwill from skeptical and disappointed fans JUST by keeping Madison Bumgarner. Signed, the Lunatic and not-so-Lunatic fringe. #ForeverGiant

WTF NY Times? “If the President continues his latest line of attack, Wray will have to decide how to lead the agency while his boss promulgates the inaccurate conclusion that the FBI plotted to sabotage Trump’s Presidential campaign in 2016.”
Uh, “promulgates the inaccurate conclusion?” How about simply “lies about the FBI?

The Oakland City Council President has floated the idea to use a cruise ship to house up to 1,000 of the city’s homeless population.     Many hurdles remain, including, would people prefer the streets to a Carnival Cruise ship?

From Cory Booker fundraising email. All other (non-billionaire) Democratic candidates so far in the Presidential primaries have spent less than $30 million on ads.
Tom Steyer has spent over $79 million on ads so far.
Michael Bloomberg has spent almost $100 million.

Yet another reason Democrats need to win Congress. Election finance reform.

So what price did Lindsey Graham get for his soul?

As upset as Trump was to lose “Person of the Year” to Greta Thunberg, imagine if he had lost to one of the other finalists… Nancy Pelosi.

DIANNE FEINSTEIN: Your investigation also uncovered text messages between FBI employees expressing support for Trump, correct?
HOROWITZ: Yes
FEINSTEIN: So FBI employees held personal political views that were both favorable & unfavorable toward the candidate at that time?
HOROWITZ. Correct

Women cut through the bullsh*t.

Rudy Giuliani has reached a divorce settlement with third wife, Judith Nathan. So guess what, ladies? He’s single.

New York $tate of Mind.

December 11, 2019

Gerrit Cole will be 39 by the end of his $324 million 9 year contract. But if he doesn’t live up to it I’m sure Yankees fans and the New York media will be warm and understanding.

Not that Brandon Crawford is doing badly but guessing his brother-in-law Gerrit Cole will be picking up dinner checks for a while.

Though have to wonder, was it worth that last $40-50 million the Yankees gave Cole to live through East Coast summers, and to shave?

Jets RB Le’Veon Bell, suffering from flu, was ruled too contagious to play last weekend, so he went…. bowling? Apparently the team will not discipline Bell as he didn’t actually break any rules. Maybe they should, however, check him for concussions? #cantfixstupid

(And wonder how other folks at the bowling alley are feeling? Literally.)
New England coach Bill Belichick on the latest Patriots’ videotaping incident – “We don’t knowingly, intentionally want to do anything that’s across the line.”
I like “I had no idea there was anything wrong with my balls” better.

Marc Ragovin  “With the firing of David Fizdale, the Central Park carousel is now completely populated with former NY Knicks coaches.”

thinking there’s got to be a clown car joke in here somewhere.
Maybe the way Democrats can get Americans outraged enough on a bipartisan basis to demand Mitch McConnell call a Senate vote is to point out that without Net Neutrality it will be harder to download free porn.

Maybe we’re thinking about this all wrong? Maybe the reason Trump needs to flush 10-15 times isn’t related to bodily functions but getting rid of records and notes. Too much paper clogs toilets too.

US Attorney General William Barr – “Justice Department is taking a closer look at decades-old laws that spare tech companies from being held liable for content posted by their users”
So can Americans sue Twitter for allowing Trump’s violence-inciting hate speech?

So it’s clearly time to move FBI director Christopher Wray up in Trump firing bingo.

GOP chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel is going after Adam Schiff “Why won’t he testify? What’s he hiding?”
Since GOP and Trump continue to complain about witnesses, might ask the same about Donald “Why won’t he testify. What’s he hiding?”

How the mighty have deflated.

December 10, 2019

Patriots acknowledged their production crew inappropriately filmed the field and sideline during Sunday’s game between the Bengals and Browns which they called “an unintended oversight.”
New England plays 1-12 Cincinnati next weekend.
When you need to cheat to beat the BENGALS? #Sad

Uh, yeah, I know football doesn’t appeal to our better angels in many ways. But to all those who have given me crap about the Saints because of bounty-gate. I give you 49ers announcer Greg Papa this morning on KNBR about Witherspoon’s personal foul on Jared Cook. “Turned out to be a great play for 49ers” because the Saints missed the 2 point conversion and it “knocked Cook out of the game.” Papa added, if Cook stayed in, he thought New Orleans would have won.
Thinking if they’re being honest a whole lot of teams/fans root for injuries.

Russia has been banned from 2020 Olympics over doping scandal.
Will Trump have the US pull out in solidarity?

Actually Russian athletes can compete, but under a neutral flag.  So they can win medals but won’t get to/have to listen to their national anthem if they win.  Which means maybe Trump can offer the winners dual citizenship?

Stephen Strasburg stays with Nats on $245M seven-year deal. $245 million? That’s almost enough for a month of Trump golf weekends.

One of the many problems with social media advertising is that the algorithms and/or AI don’t seem to have a “not NOW” filter.
Was reading up on the horrific volcano explosion in New Zealand and got an ad for White Island Tours “Experience NZ’s most active volcano with us.”  Ouch.

The latest parent charged with paying Rick Singer to cheat is pleading guilty to paying $9,000 to have someone take online classes for her son so he could graduate from Georgetown University.
Enough to make you long for the days when parents just built their kids’ elementary school science projects.

James Comey tweeted “FYI: I offered to go on Fox & Friends to answer all questions. I can’t change their viewers on Donald Trump but hoped to give them some actual facts about the FBI. They booked me for tomorrow at 8 am. They just cancelled. Must have read the report.”

The Democratic establishment is NOT perfect folks, I get it. But if you have any question about the alternative, watch GOP members of Congress in action during these impeachment hearings.

Where Dat Defense?

December 9, 2019

Well, at least Drew Brees is now back ahead of Tom Brady for career TD passes. But he and Saints would have traded that for a win today.

Seen this before but from a guy named Matt on Twitter. “When I die I want the Saints defense to lower me into my grave, so they can let me down one last time.”

Patriots lost today to Chiefs after two controversial calls went against New England. Reaction from 29 other teams in NFL “Thoughts and Prayers.”

As CFB playoffs are set, have to wonder, could any team from NFC East qualify?

Let’s see, Miss Universe 2019 is a black woman from South
Africa. And runners up were Puerto Rico and Mexico. Who restrained Trump from rant tweeting over the top three?

The alleged Pensacola shooter was one of 852 Saudi nationals in the U.S. for military training provided under a security cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia. He was also apparently tweeting anti-America statements in the days before the shooting.
Uh, is anyone checking social media posts of the other 851, those who weren’t also detained now in Florida after the shooting?-

Apparently Saudi Pensacola gunman visited New York City, including Rockefeller Center just days before the shooting. I’m sure he was just going for Christmas shopping….

Trump and White House have announced they will not “participate in that sham hearing of impeachment.   Wonder what GOP would have done if instead of testifying for 11 hours Hillary Clinton refused “to participate in that sham hearing” on Benghazi?

If Hunter Biden being on the board of a Ukrainian gas company was so egregious and part of a larger security threat to the US, why didn’t GOP investigate him when they  controlled both the House and Senate. For that matter, why didn’t they pass all the great legislation Trump and Republicans are now promising us when they controlled both the House and Senate?

Half an upset?

December 7, 2019

Whole lot of fans of two-loss teams right now thinking Badgers had them stay up late and got there College Football Playoff hopes up for nothing.

(21-7 Wisconsin over Ohio State at halftime,   34-21 Ohio State win.)

Your reminder that the 10-2 Oregon Ducks have no chance for the playoffs. (And I’m not an Oregon fan.) . Had they only, instead of opening against Auburn, done like Alabama and scheduled a powerhouse like Western Carolina.
Here’s a thought, how about if every team that gets into CFB Playoffs is required to schedule a new non-conference top 25 opponent within next 2-3 years. Yes, I’m talking to you SEC and ACC.
Not that the Tigers, 13-0 aren’t a good team.  Clemson, 13-0, had an easier path to the playoffs this year than any team not named the Dallas Cowboys.
Every time I see a Michael Bloomberg ad my first thought is of all the other useful thingss he could be doing  politically for the country with that money.
(state and local elections, voter registration, election security…)
You think you have a tough job, how’d you like to be writers at Saturday Night  who  spent  the  week   trying  to top Trump’s  “10-15  flushes” line.
Given Trump’s fixation on toilets anyone but me curious to hear what it’s like being the White House plumber?
If Trump were really losing money as President, he’d be having Fox and Friends doing regular nightly segments on his tax returns. Period.
Trump on Rudy’s Giuliani’s latest trip to the Ukraine, “He says he has a lot of good information…I hear he has found plenty.” What like, Obama’s birth certificate?
Maybe it’s just me but in the “if you see something say something” category I’d put mass shooting videos at a dinner party.
As White House reiterates Trump’s refusal to testify or anything else in impeachment hearings,  wonder what GOP would have done if instead of testifying for 11 hours Hillary Clinton refused “to participate in that sham hearing” on Benghazi?

And the winner isn’t….

December 6, 2019

Congrats to Oregon for winning the Pac 12 Championship. Wonder how many bouquets  the Ducks will get from Oklahoma, Georgia, Alabama, Baylor and any other team with fantasies of making CFB Playoffs.

Lane Kiffin reportedly about to become Old Miss football coach.  This would be Lane’s fifth head coaching job.  He is 44.

So what’s the record number of head coaching jobs?  Asking for a cynical friend.

Jerry Jones to radio hosts this morning who asked if the organization was embarrassed over Cowboys’ loss to the Bears. “Hey, get your damn act together.” Uh, maybe in Dallas it’s not radio guys who need to get their act together.

Just how bad is NFC East? The 3-9 Redskins could still win the division.

Adam Vinatieri may not kick for Colts again due to a knee injury. On a brighter note for Indy at least Adam’s medical bills should be covered by Medicare.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich on Knicks firing coach Fizdale “It’s ridiculous to think you’re gonna bring a young guy in and after being there a minute and a half, you expect him to fix everything that’s been wrong there for a long time. That’s pretty unfair. .. So, it’s the old analogy: he got thrown under the bus.”

To be fair, NY Knicks are really rivaling Trump for clogging the road under their buses.

0

WTAF? Nikki Haley just said that the Charleston mass shooter “hijacked” the Confederate flag,, what people in South Carolina viewed as a symbol of “service, and sacrifice and heritage.” Uh, Nikki, maybe for starters not the 27% of people in South Carolina who are black?

My mother had dementia the last years of her life. I heard regularly from people at her assisted living home that she was flushing toilet a lot. Mostly because she tried to flush her adult diapers. “People are flushing toilets 10 times, 15 times.” #toiletgate

Southwest flight attendant told woman wearing a hijab who switched seats to sit with her family, that she was making passengers “uncomfortable” and threatened to have her escorted off plane Presidential hate speech has consequences. #shameonSouthwest #ShameonTrump

Per CNN “A member of the Saudi military training at US Naval Air Station in Pensacola is the suspected shooter in today’s incident.” How long until Jared says his good pal MBS assures us it was a rogue operator and not a terrorist?

Evenly matched?

December 5, 2019

6-6 Cowboys, atop the NFC East tonight play the 6-6 Bears, who still have a chance for the playoffs. Can we call this the Mediocrity Bowl?

Johnny Manziel’s model wife Bre Tiesi has filed for divorce and is demanding spousal support after just 379 days of marriage.

Is she alleging she did give him the best year of her life?

First Trump and Kim Jong Un “fell in love.” Now they’re calling each other Rocket Man and Dotard again. It’s almost like one of Donald’s marriages.

Republican witness, Prof. Jonathan Turley, testifies: “A crime hasn’t occurred if the criminal doesn’t admit it.”

How many defense attorneys are going “why didn’t I think of that?”

Trump made comments about his daughter being fat, but sure let’s have GOP outrage because a law Professor used Barron’s name in a sentence.

Melania tweeted “A minor child deserves privacy and should be kept out of politics. Pamela Karlan, you should be ashamed of your very angry and obviously biased public pandering, and using a child to do it.” Did she tell Donald he should be ashamed of attacking Greta Thunberg?

I suppose I get it that a teenager might be embarrassed to have his name spoken in public for any reason. But on a 1-10 scale compared to knowing his father cheated on three wives and his mom did soft-core porn?

So when will John Barron weigh in on the Barron Trump fake outrage?

And must be getting old. I’ve forgotten all that GOP outrage over jokes about a young Chelsea Clinton.

Trump says in Senate, GOP “will have Schiff, the Bidens, Pelosi and many more testify, and will reveal, for the first time, how corrupt our system really is.” Uh, Donald, why won’t you let any of YOUR people testify.

Breaking news. Old white man endorses other old white man. #JohnKerry #JoeBiden

From #WSJ “Trump considering a significant expansion of U.S. military footprint in Middle East to counter Iran, including dozens more ships, other military hardware & as many as 14,000 additional troops, U.S. officials said.” Wait, you mean Donald lied about bringing troops home?

Comings and goings.

December 4, 2019

Zach Wheeler leaves Mets and signs with the Phillies. Would have been entertaining to have him play Carlos Beltran, the guy he was traded for…

Ron Rivera was fired as Panthers coach so will miss the rest of the season. Making him at this point maybe luckier than Carolina season ticket holders.

Eli Manning will probably start Monday night for NY Giants since rookie QB Daniel Jones has a “moderate high ankle sprain.  And who knows, maybe if he does well, Eli could lead the 2-10 team to catch the 3-9 Redskins for 3rd place in the NFC East.

Kamala Harris’s campaign was running out of money.

Well clearly if she were serious about becoming President she would have married a billionaire who could have funded that campaign.

The way we KNOW there is no clear front-runner for Democratic Presidential nomination – no one who has dropped out has endorsed anyone else.

Well, who’d have guessed that Trump, the guy on his third marriage, who’s cheated on every one of those wives, wouldn’t be able to sustain a bromance with Macron.

Lindsey Graham says he’s “1,000% confident” that Russia, not Ukraine, meddled in the 2016 election. Graham also said that censuring Trump might have have “bipartisan support.”
Too soon to start the pool on when Donald will throw Lindsey under the bus?

North Korea “The dialogue touted by the US is, in essence, nothing but a foolish trick hatched to keep the DPRK bound to dialogue and use it in favor of the political situation and election in the US.
“It is entirely up to the US what Christmas gift it will select to get.”
But wait, wait, I thought Trump and Kim Jong Un were “in love.

Donald is partly right. They aren’t laughing at us. They are laughing at potUS.

Think the only way we can get Gym Jordan to stop protecting Trump is if we tell him Donald was a wrestler in college.

Rolling out the tanks?

December 3, 2019

SF Giants nontender Kevin Pillar, who led team in HR, RBI, SB, etc, started almost every game, and won Willie Mac award as most inspirational player.
For first time I wondered tonight, Giants have a lot of us who bought charter seats when ballpark opened, have the rights to those seats for life pretty cheaply in retrospect. Wonder if they are hoping fans give up and they can resell at higher prices when team is decent and fun again?

On a brighter note for SF Giants season ticket holders with the team apparently embracing tanking in 2020. At least potential local single-game ticket buyers won’t have spent their yearly sports budget on Warriors tickets.

Snow was falling so hard during #Packers #Giants game that MetLife staff had to shovel the yard-lines during breaks. No wonder Green Bay won big. Aaron Rodgers and company must have thought it was a home game.

NBC can thank the Atlanta Falcons for no one turning off Sunday night football with Patriots down 21-3 late in the 3rd quarter.

Joe Sestak on Sunday dropped out of the 2020 Democratic Presidential race. Okay, forget supporters, how many people knew he was running?

(repeat same tweet almost for Steve Bullock.)

Something else about Michael Bloomberg. He said he wasn’t running. Now he says he thinks he has to run. The other candidates haven’t changed….is he saying he made a major mistake in evaluating them? And if so, how do we expect him to evaluate our foreign allies & enemies.

Trump seems so obsessed with Lisa Page you’d almost think he hit on her and she turned him down.

Trump’s lawyer Cipollone told Judiciary Committee they do “not intend to participate in your Wednesday hearing.” And accused Nadler of “no doubt purposely” scheduling hearing while Trump will be in London for NATO. Thinking if Donald actually would show up House would find a day and time.

So she’s had to deal with her second son’s major public f*ck up and now she has to host another event for Donald Trump. Sometimes it s*cks to be Queen.

GOP Rep Ben Cline compared Trump to Luke Skywalker “May the Farce be With You?”

Tucker Carlson tonight “I think we should probably take the side of Russia if we have to choose between Russia and Ukraine.” Well, duh, Ukraine isn’t paying him.

Outsiders.

December 1, 2019

Sweet.  Alabama will be Home for College Football playoffs.

And how long until Nick Saban argues for THREE SEC teams in those playoffs.

Amy Klobuchar is a  BIG Minnesota football fan. On a brighter note at least she won’t have to antagonize any West Coast Democrats by pulling for Golden Gophers in Rose Bowl.    (Thanks, Wisconsin.)

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is whining, again, that his team is being unfairly held to a different standard in the playoffs. And that standard has cost the Tigers so many potential national championships. Uh, wait, never mind.

A crazy college football thought, what if any team that received a bid into CFB Playoff  was REQUIRED as a condition of the bid to schedule a nonconference game as soon as possible with a power opponent?

Less than half of Americans eligible to vote voted in 2016.  So maybe if we gave the winning candidate “the final rose” would more people make the effort?

Meanwhile 53% of Republicans say Trump is a better President than Lincoln.  Of course have to wonder, how many of that 53% think Lincoln was a Democrat?

Trump and GOP solution to ACA is like fixing a leaky roof by tearing down the house.

Trump and USDA under Sonny Perdu wants to tighten work rules for SNAP program, claiming it will restore “the dignity of work.”   Right, because so many Americans say they WOULD go get good jobs, but they don’t want to give up their luxurious life with a little over $100 a person a month average in food stamps.

Another US shooting, tonight in New Orleans, with (so far at time of writing) 11 victims but no fatalities.  So just how long is it again until we can talk about gun control?

And when we talk about the MOST important US challenge, and we face so many challenges, climate change, healthcare, income inequality, education…. If we don’t have election security NONE of them will be addressed.

Ur-ine trouble now.

November 29, 2019

In Ole Miss-  Mississippi State “Egg Bowl” rivalry game,   an Ole Miss receiver caught a touchdown pass late in 4th quarter to pull the game to within 21-20.  He then got on his knees, lifted a leg, and pretended to urinate in the end-zone. The Rebels were given a 15 yard penalty and missed the potential game tying extra point.

What a pisser.

Cowboys Jerry Jones told reporters on coach Jason Garrett. “It would give us zero chance (for the Super Bowl) if we didn’t have him.”
As opposed to the zero chance Dallas has with him?

After Saints are done celebrating NFC South Championship think it is just possible Sean Payton may have some extra onside kick recovery practice.

(Falcons were down 31-18 and managed to recover  TWO,  actually three when one was reserved by a penalty, onside kicks in last four minutes of the game.)

At least 17 New England Patriots listed as questionable vs. Houston Texans Sunday, 10 with “flu-like” symptoms.

Well, this poses some interesting questions.  Primarily, so what kind of penalties will NFL refs have to call against the Texans to get Patriots a win THIS time?

Awful attack in London, but in this case, the bad guy with a knife, was really stopped by good guys without guns. Or any weapons.  Except their own courage.  (Then after civilians had taken down the attacking, British police ultimately fatally shot him.

And for all those saying it would have been different in the USA with armed bystanders. Yeah, probably several people whipping out guns and probably either shooting each other or MORE bystanders.

And this was the tweet from Larry the Cat, who lives at Downing Street.

·
Police officers, paramedics and members of the public made their way towards someone who was looking to do them harm, so that they could help others in need. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts and mourn those not going home tonight. #LondonBridge
Is there some way to vote in Larry as Prime Minister?
Fox’s Pete Hegseth: Hong Kong Protesters Look at Trump and ‘They See Rocky Balboa’ Uh, except that Donald practically had to be forced to sign the pro-democracy legislation. Facts have a liberal bias.

Turkeys and other daze

November 28, 2019
A Thanksgiving thought. Thank you all for being my readers, even if we don’t always agree on politics, or sports, I’m grateful to have you all as part of my life. And actually, in many ways I especially appreciate the people I can have civil disagreements with! We are increasingly in bubbles and I actually think it’s good for the future of our country to have friends across the aisle, or the field as it may be.
Speaking of  which “Geaux Saints”

ESPN reports that the Cowboys will not fire Jason Garrett during the season. Especially I suppose since Dallas can NEVER in 2019 beat a team with a winning record, and still win the NFC East at 9-7. (No joke.)

Good news for Bears fans,  Mitch Trubisky, despite some shaky moments and an interception, threw 3 TD passes to lead now 6-6 Chicago to a 24-20 win over the 3-8-1 Detroit Lions.

Bad news for Bears fans,  Mitch Trubisky, despite some shaky moments and an interception, threw 3 TD passes to lead now 6-6 Chicago  to a 24-20 win over the 3-8-1 Detroit Lions.

After saying he might veto the measure Trump just signed legislation supporting pro-democracy Hong Kong protesters. I guess someone explained to the stable genius that 417-1 in the House and unanimous in Senate just might be a veto-proof majority.

If you want something politically  to be thankful about think about Trump trying to throw Rudy under the bus. And also both how vindictive Giuliani is and how much dirt he knows.

So did Trump really decide to leave New York when Macy’s wouldn’t let him float down Central Park West in the parade?

Would it be churlish to suggest that maybe Trump really went to Afghanistan on Thanksgiving because Air Force One serves his favorite junk food and Melania would have insisted on turkey at Mar-A-Lago?

No bull in Durham.

November 27, 2019

Stephen F. Austin beat No. 1 Duke 85-83 in Durham Tuesday night on a buzzer-beating layup. Two responses from most casual sports fans. 1. Wow. Duke lost at home? 2. Who does Stephen F. Austin play for?

Trump rally Tuesday night  in Sunrise, Florida. Well, on bright news for local NFL fans, at this point he can’t make the 2-9 Miami Dolphins much worse. #ETTD

A Saints fan decided the time was right in the Superdome last Sunday and took advantage of his girlfriend being distracted during New Orleans’ game-winning drive to give a nearby fan his phone and had her record his proposal while Will Lutz made the game winning kick.

Fortunately the kick went through and she said yes. Now that’s faith.  #WhoDat

Latest College Football Playoff Rankings.  Some controversy at the very top, but two SEC teams currently slated to make the playoffs. So for NCAA, all’s right with their world.

1. Ohio State (11-0)
2. LSU (11-0)
3. Clemson (11-0)
4. Georgia (10-1)
5. Alabama (10-1)
6. Utah (10-1)
7. Oklahoma (10-1)
8. Minnesota (10-1)
9. Baylor (10-1)

NFL now admits that BOTH tripping calls in New England Dallas game Sunday were wrong, one which came as Cowboys were driving towards a possible game winning score late in the fourth quarter.  Well, this ought to take care of many fans contention that Roger Goodell and the league are a wholly owned subsidiary of the Patriots.

Three games on NFL schedule Thursday, starting with 5-8 Bears vs 3-7-1 Lions. So looks like the Thanksgiving turkey will be served early this year.

So who had Nov 26 for the date when Trump would first throw Rudy Giuliani under the bus? #thoughtsandprayers

Trump during turkey pardon – “Democrats accusing me of being too soft on Turkey [pun intended]. But Bread & Butter…unlike previous witnesses, you & I have actually met… ” If we only had a President who didn’t forbid witnesses from testifying. Time to impeach Hillary?

A question for those who call themselves 100% pro-life on Dreamers?    If you demand a child be born even from rape or incest, because it wasn’t its fault to be conceived, how can you possibly demand children who were taken to the US be deported?

Whose fault?

November 26, 2019

The 0-11 Cincinnati Bengals have benched rookie QB Ryan Finley after 3 games, and are returning to Andy Dalton. In related news, the Bengals presumably will be replacing their sideline benches with deck chairs from the Titanic.

LeBron James says he gives “a lot of credit to the Spurs” for improving his 3-point shot, because of the way San Antonio beat his Cavaliers in 2007, and the scheme they used that forced him to learn how to shoot. Hmm, instead of giving credit, why didn’t he just sign to play with Pop?

Small consolation but Saints fans know that not even the refs could get Rams anywhere near the Super Bowl this year.

Saints coach Sean Payton now lobbying for replay review to be decided by 3 officials, instead of just 1. Payton also noted Canadian Football League uses group to decide its pass interference replays. Right, but if only NFL had as much money as the CFL…

In response to those who said Trump was “chosen by God,” is the USA now the nation equivalent of Job?

Supreme Court gave Trump an emergency stay on releasing his tax returns, but gave him a deadline of Dec 5. to file a brief. Will Donald hand-write his own brief by Sharpie?

So who figured Trump would be seen with any dog in White House. Bonus points for guessing he would use the dog to threaten the press? “It’s trained that if you open your mouths, you will be attacked. You want to be very, very careful.” #NotTheOnion

Judge ruled former White House counsel Don McGahn must testify in House of Representatives’ impeachment inquiry.
Well, aren’t Trump and his supporters claiming no one who actually has talked to Donald is testifying? So this should be a win-win.

Meghan McCain defending her friendship with Lindsey Graham, even though Lindsey is fighting with their friend Joe Biden, saying it’s “literally like watching family members go after each other.” “I think Trump appears to do weird things to people.” What was Meghan’s first clue?

Wait, seeing online shopping ads “Cyber Week starts now.” Except Cyber Monday isn’t supposed to be until NEXT Monday. Can we just declare all of November-December the new “Black Friday’ and be done with it?

Let’s make it simple. Democrats should agree to investigate Hunter Biden’s business dealings as thoroughly as we investigate those of the Trump spawn.

V is for what?

November 25, 2019

Washington QB Dwayne Haskins got distracted and somehow missed the final snap of yesterday’s win over Detroit because he was taking a selfie with a fan.

To, be fair, pretty sure as QB of 2019 Redskins, Haskins hadn’t done much practice of the “V for Victory” formation.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said it was “pretty glaring as to why we couldn’t get it done” in going after coaching as a factor in the loss. And who wouldn’t want to take over from Jason Garrett in Dallas next year with that kind of support?

New Orleans somehow pulled that game out against Panthers yesterday.  But deep down didn’t we all know the first overturned non-call for defensive pass interference was going to go against the Saints?

So do Saints fans get a discount on all upcoming physicals because we’ve already had our cardiac stress test today?

Don’t look now, but NY Jets have won three games in a row.  Well, surely they can’t keep this up, so looking ahead…    Oh, next week Jets opponent the Cincinnati Bengals. Never mind.

“This Presidential race really needed Michael Bloomberg” said almost no one.

If Trump shot someone in middle of 5th Avenue now, GOP would claim the victim had committed suicide.

Richard Spencer is a Marine Corps Veteran and was nominated BY Trump as Secretary of the Navy. Today Donald made Richard resign because Spencer couldn’t accept a war criminal being reinstated to the Seals. Are we great yet?

I miss the days when trolls were cute little plastic dolls with long furry colored hair.

Used to say I was a Democrat but I voted for the person not the party. In the days when there WERE reasonable Republicans. (a couple at least on our city council.) But I don’t vote for cult members. #VoteBlueNoMatterWho2020

And in all seriousness,  anyone who’s read the Mueller report knows what Team Trump did before the election. And now after some impeachment hearings we know more of what they’ve done since. Imagine what they’ll do with a second term.

Axed

November 23, 2019

Well, to be fair Stanford should let Cal borrow the Axe once a decade. #BigGame

Pac 12 plays 1 more conference game than SEC & tends to avoid the real “little sisters of the poor” games. Today Oregon goes down by 3 to ASU in Tempe while Alabama wins by 63 at home against Western Carolina.
But yeah, get out violins if there aren’t 2 SEC teams in playoffs.

The NFL has issued 33 players a total of $732,422 in fines from the brawl at end of Steelers and Browns game. $732,422?!! That might be more than more than Cleveland gate receipts.

Meanwhile cure for the longest losing streak of Gregg Popovich’s time in San Antonio?  Play the Knicks.

Andrew Yang and his supporters are so upset over lack of coverage that they want to Boycott. MSNBC, Uh, maybe besides Yang spouting his own programs & theories Andrew could spend a little time actually supporting other Democrats running for local & state offices?

Reports that both secretary of the Navy and the admiral who leads the SEALs have threatened to resign or be fired if POTUS stops the expulsion of a commando from the elite unit convicted in a war crimes case.

If so, how long until Trump refers to the entire military leadership as “Never Trumpers?”

Now it’s Pompeo. Is there anyone in the Trump administration who isn’t dirty?

Not a problem I will have, but sharing this idea from my Twitter friend Tony Posnanski
“I will be changing my wifi password to “IMPEACH45” this Thursday so that my MAGA family members have to put that in their devices to have some of my delicious WiFi.”
Don Jr. is fundraising for his dad “Contribute $50 or more TODAY to claim your HAND-SIGNED copy of my new book TRIGGERED.”
If you donate more do you get to choose the color crayon?
It’s Saturday night, which means once again, Americans sadly playing the game “Is this the nightly news covering Trump or the SNL cold open?
Some part of me wonders if Trump pardoning all these war criminals isn’t just a pathetic way to continue trying to get back at Senator John McCain?

Circling dates on the calendar.

November 23, 2019

What a difference a year makes. In 2019 NBA teams were thrilled to see Warriors because it would increase ticket sales, this year they’re glad to see Golden State because it increases the chances of a win.

Lots of big rivalry games Saturday –   Cal vs. Stanford,  USC vs UCLA.  And some interesting match-ups with Ohio State vs Penn State,  and Baylor vs. Texas.  Even Boston College vs ND.  Meanwhile, Alabama, whose fans complain they should be in CFB playoff even with a loss, proves their strength of schedule by playing… Western Carolina?!!

Good news for Bears fans. QB Mitchell Trubisky, injured in Rams game Sunday night, has recovered enough to start against Giants Sunday. Bad news for Bears fans. QB Mitchell Trubisky, injured in Rams game Sunday night, has recovered enough to start against Giants Sunday.

Now Mike Bloomberg bought $31 million in ads, Tom Steyer
spent over $47 million in 1st 3 months of his campaign. That $$$ could flip Senate, or enough local races to make major dent in GOP gerrymandering.
Miss the old days when men bought Playboy to take care of fantasies

So as Sandusky was re-sentenced today (simply a technicality)  have to wonder, if he were a long-time Trump supporter, would Donald claim he didn’t know Jerry? Or that the accusations were “fake news?”

Wait, the same President who can’t find time to appear before the House Intelligence Committee can spend 53 minutes in a live interview ranting on Fox and Friends?

Right, the normal response to being accused of talking so loudly on a cellphone that everyone around can hear you is to have a phone in interview to Fox and Friends where you scream for almost an hour.

Per CNN “A lawyer for an indicted associate of Rudy Giuliani says his client is willing to tell Congress about meetings (Devin Nunes) the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee had in Vienna last year with a former Ukrainian prosecutor to discuss digging up dirt on Joe Biden.”
At some point have to wonder how the buses run in DC with all these crooks throwing each other under them.

So will Devin  Nunes testify in his OWN defense? Or will he be too cowed?

An increasing number of Republicans say Trump has abused his Presidential powers but shouldn’t be impeached, in essence saying his crimes don’t matter. So is this how they raise their children?

It’s all relative.

RIP, Jake Burton Carpenter, 65, of cancer. Apparently Carpenter was known as the “soul of snowboarding.” Now 65 seems younger than it used to. But still hard to imagine that a pioneer snowboarder was that old.

Cowboys-Patriots tickets on Stubhub Sunday at Gillette Stadium  START at $236 plus fees. Meanwhile for Lions-Redskins tickets at Fed Exp Field the lowest price is $9.  Is Washington charging that or paying it?

To be fair, after a week watching Jim Jordan and Devin Nunes in the morning, it doesn’t seem QUITE as bad to listen to Joe Buck.

In 2020, bet on a spike in the number of baby girls in America born and named “Fiona.”

Meanwhile can anyone imagine how a woman member of Congress would be treated if she showed up dressed as sloppily and shouted as loudly as Jim Jordan?

Benjamin Netanyahu has just been indicted on bribery and fraud charges. Wonder if he will try to hire Jim Jordan to scream in his defense?

I’m so old I can remember when we didn’t have a President who referred to members of the other party as ‘human scum.”

Seriously? OANN, the network who Trump turns to when Fox News isn’t subservient enough is tweeting things “Why are there so many non-US-born people working in our Intel and State Department?” Uh, for that matter, why is POTUS sleeping with a non-US-born woman?

If Trump shot someone in the middle of 5th Avenue GOP House members on a jury would not just want the case dismissed, they’d want to file claims against the victim’s estate.

#LetTulsiSpeak is trending. Shouldn’t it be “Пусть говорит Тулси?”

Ivanka Trump tweeted ” A decline of public morals in the United States will probably be marked by the abuse of the power of impeachment as a means of crushing political adversaries or ejecting them from office.” Alexis de Tocqueville, 1835

Hey Ivanka, here’s a better Alexis de Tocqueville quote “The greatness of America lies not in being more enlightened than any other nation, but rather in her ability to repair her faults.”

Fault repair coming November 3, 2020.

All of these GOP House members bending over backwards to protect Trump. Aren’t they seeing in real time how Donald repays that loyalty when people are no longer useful to him?

Mighty fallen.

Who’d a thunk struggling NBA teams would be thinking this sentence in 2019? – “At least we’re not the Warriors.”

Steve Kerr after losing by 48 to the Mavericks tonight. With a few break we could have only lost by 42.

Must say, guessing no one has ever walked off a debate stage and sent an email to supporters saying “Please donate. I need it, because I had a really rough night.”

Several little intermissions in tonight’s Democratic Debate.  Did the older candidates need potty breaks?

Tulsi talked during debate about treating each other with respect. Right, starting with the respectful way Gabbard has talked about other Democrats?

As Biden reminded us these impeachment hearings focus on Trump trying to keep him from being the nominee, have to wonder, who else is Donald bribing and threatening people for dirt on?

Who had “punch” at domestic violence being Joe Biden’s first big gaffe of the night?

“Study the long term use of marijuana?” Joe Biden, seriously? Aren’t many baby boomers already a study in the long term use of marijuana?

Cory Booker to Joe Biden on not wanting to legalize marijuana “I thought you might have been high when you said it.”

Cory Booker to Pete Buttigieg,  “And I happen to be the other Rhodes scholar candidate on this stage.” Nice and true line.

(Interestingly enough, no woman could be a Rhodes scholar until 1977.)

Good on Kamala Harris for calling out Tulsi Gabbard for not really being a Democrat. Next will Kamala go after Bernie?

Every woman who’s ever been in the workplace or political arena who is watching debate tonight knows that Amy Klobuchar was right about gender.

Andrew Yang sticking up for Tom Steyer. How nice that the millionaire defends the billionaire.

Now it’s Mike Pompeo who is reportedly planning to resign, possibly to run for Senate. The Trumptanic lifeboats are filling up.

DNA results show Hunter Biden, 49, fathered a child born in August 2018, with a now 28 year old woman. Well, by modern GOP standards does this make Hunter if not Joe truly Presidential?

So Trump would use the Henry II defense except that one, he doesn’t know history. two, it didn’t really work for the King of England. “Will no one rid me of this turbulent Biden?”

Does listening to Jim Jordan give anyone else a headache?

How long until  Fox News decides to move away from the impeachment hearings and just show a retrospective on Hillary’s emails?

Wonder how many millennials are asking their parents about John Dean today?

Only one US Carrier to Brussels tonight from DC, United 950 leaving from Dulles. Imagining the flight attendant asking Ambassador Gordon Sondland “So would you like a drink before departure?”

Starting but not sticking to sports.

November 20, 2019

A bit of sports, seven interceptions for Philip Rivers in two games. If only there was a semi-competent free agent quarterback available for the Chargers.

Miami Dolphins waived RB Mark Walton for allegedly striking a woman who was pregnant with his baby.  Walton had served 2 of 4 game suspension for violating NFL conduct policy related to his THREE offseason arrests between January-March 2020.   The Dolphins had signed him after Bengals released him.

Miami GM Chris Grief “We hold our players to a high standard and take these matters very seriously.” And Grief said it with a straight face.

Donald and Melania Trump re-registered today to vote in Florida instead of New York. He does realize this means he needs to spend 50% or more of the year there, right, which is more than every winter?

WTF of the day? A movie studio exec apparently wanted Julia Roberts to play Harriet Tubman. So did an executive also want Denzel Washington to play Mr. Rogers?

A small point, but GOP seems so upset about Lt. Col Vindman testifying in his dress uniform, even though rules say says all personnel “will wear an Army uniform when on duty, unless granted an exception by the commander to wear civilian clothes.”
Now, who gave Jim Jordan an exemption to keep his jacket off?

Rewatching Lt. Colonel Alexander Vindman’s opening statement from Tuesday, who’s with me in wishing we had someone more like him as President?

Yes, Tom Steyer has put a lot of money into good causes. And now he says “I alone can fix it.” Not very often I think “If only someone were like the Koch Brothers.” But at least they were practical enough to use THEIR money to get other people elected.

One of the many bizarre things about the Ukraine deal. While Joe Biden was my first choice in 2016, he is not my first choice now, mostly for age-related reasons.
But whoever your candidate, is there really anyone on either side of aisle who really thinks Joe is in politics for money, and is anything other than a good and decent man?
