Even though it’s often played without spectators, no PGA tour events yet. Of course, ESPN could just fill their weekends with highlights of tournaments featuring Tiger Woods.  Oops, been there, done that.

Media giving so much attention to the small rallies of stupid “Liberate” people perhaps shouldn’t be that surprising. When ESPN shows highlights of auto races most of what they show are the wrecks.

Looking at the race of all these protesters demanding things be opened up in various places across the US should put an end to the myth of White supremacy once and for all.

So these “Liberate” idiots think the rest of us don’t miss normal life? Going to work, seeing friends, travel, restaurants, etc, etc? Miss those things terribly. But not enough to want to kill other people.

Steve Mnuchin today on CNN took blame for stimulus check delay, saying it was HIS idea to have Trump’s signature on the checks. Two words. Yeah. Right.

A new study finds that  coronavirus could linger in the testicles, making men prone to longer, more severe cases of the illness.

So this is why Trump hasn’t been infected?

As Trump brags about his hotel properties why doesn’t some reporter ask Donald why he doesn’t offer free rooms to healthcare workers?

Joe Biden won Wyoming Democratic Party caucuses with 72% of the vote. Wow. Does that mean Wyoming has 72 actual Democrats?

Joe Biden is not a scientist. Donald Trump is not a scientist. But Joe Biden listens to scientists.

As a Pro Choice woman isn’t it nice at least that a lot of these GOP folks protesting are finally saying they realize it’s wrong for government to tell us what to do with our bodies? Oh wait, never mind.

Worst mass shooting ever in Canada. If Joe Bidenwere President, he would have issued a statement on behalf of USA. As an American my heart goes out to those in Nova Scotia, and I apologize for us not having elected a human in 2016.
@JustinTrudeau
·
To those who lost loved ones following the senseless violence in Nova Scotia, and to the @RCMPNS family mourning the loss of Cst. Heidi Stevenson, know Canadians across the country are mourning with you – and are here to support you through this tragedy. pm.gc.ca/en/news/statem
And seriously folks, google Trudeau with any of the many mass US shooting recently, Vegas, Parkland, Kentucky, etc…. He’s always sent a message on Twitter and has generally called Trump.

Boys of almost summer.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said league remains “committed” to resuming the 2019-20 season, but there’s still no timetable.
With all due respect, aren’t we already only a few months away from the start of the NBA’s 2020-21 preseason?

A. Bartlett Giamatti on baseball “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall all alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.”

This year baseball breaks our hearts by not even beginning.

Unexpectedly touching to see Michelle Obama and Laura Bush together tonight on #GlobalCitizen
I’m so old I remember when national crises brought out the best in our leaders.

It’s a small point, but so is every single person in the White House terrified to tell Trump that the Spanish Flu was 1918, not 1917?

Let’s be real. ALL the women on Joe Biden’s short list for a potential running mate would say yes if he asked them.
So why do reporters keep asking them???

A small silver lining in this Coronavirus nightmare – wasn’t that long ago many Americans couldn’t name a Governor or even more than one or two Senators outside their own state, let alone potential Democratic rising stars.

Now Trump is talking about that “perfect phone call” Pence reportedly had with Senators yesterday. He says Democrats were “rude and nasty.”
Simple way to prove this – release the tape.

Trump Advisor Stephen Moore compared the COVID-19 protesters to Rosa Parks.
Right, if Rosa Parks had planned to move to the front of the bus to kill everyone else on aboard.

As a Democrat there are several states I’ve hoped would turn blue this November.
But the premise was never that it would happen because GOP voters would end up trying to “liberate” themselves from the voter rolls by dying.

So as Dr. Birx shows off her “flattening the curve” charts, imagine what the charts are going to look like in Florida in a few weeks with DeSantis opening those beaches.

I wanna see charts on testing. Period.

Sporting chance.

UC Berkeley announced admissions today. As a Stanford grad, how badly do I wish for old days when most pressing thing that might get us Cardinal fans on social media tonight was to tell future Golden Bears “Congrats, now prepare to lose “Big Game” for next four years.”

So how many times a day do you think someone has to tell Trump  “Sorry sir, you can’t go golfing this weekend?”

Lady Gaga headlining major musical fundraiser for WHO on Saturday evening today expressed support for WHO General Director “Dr Tedros, you’re a superstar.” Trump tweet calling Lady Gaga overrated in 3.2.1..

Sen. Angus King after conference call on COVID-19 testing failures with Pence:“I have never been so mad about a phone call in my life.” For those who aren’t political junkies, the mild-mannered King being mad is as likely as Bernie Sanders modeling for GQ magazine.

Looking at some of today’s protests pretty clear the correct motto should be “Live Free AND Die.”

So are our “what we did during Stay At Home Stories” going to be our “what did you do in the war, grandma” stories?

I only started watching her regularly last month. But ass awful as this pandemic is, we can all hope that when we end up in nursing homes that there is someone who advocates for us as much as Rachel Maddow?

So when deaths start spiking in three weeks with beaches and businesses now opening in red states, who will Trump blame?

And, do Trump and his red state Governor buddies think this COVID-19 will just “fly over” rural Midwest states?

During today’s vanity rally Trump said “I’m going to leave and I’m going to be right back.” What was the emergency? Depends?

Trump has announced a plan for nationalwide testing. Which he’ll roll out as soon as he releases his tax returns.

The state of Illinois received a secret shipment of PPE from China yesterday. They kept it secret so the Trump administration wouldn’t steal it. No, this is not a bad remake of “24.”

As Trump spends his Friday night rage retweeting far-right activist Charlie Kirk, your reminder that Barack Obama was attacked for having weekend date nights with his wife.

So if Trump wants to open up college football with fans kept well apart and socially distanced, as a Stanford football fan can I nominate Stanford’s home opener Sept 5.  A Saturday game over two weeks before  students return, at a TBA time which could be decided up to six days before, and against the Cardinal’s well-known rival William and Mary?

Heck, before this Coronavirus pandemic Stanford could have looked forward to at least a thousand fans showing up.

Although as Donald talks about college football games and opening the country up state by state,  just for example, does Trump think fans never cross state lines for college football games?

For those who miss baseball.  Just a bit outside…  https://twitter.com/Starting9/status/1250832201727475712

Nancy Pelosi has started doing briefings and interviews from her kitchen. Anyone think Trump has ever been in a kitchen?

Meanwhile Laura Kelly saying on CNN Kansas has had a very hard time getting tests. But what does she know… Kelly is only the state’s Governor.

Just for example, in central Florida, where I went to high school, Orlando Sentinel just reported “among eight counties, there have been 2,792 confirmed cases w/ fewer than 1% of population tested.” Well not like the area has any places where big crowds gather, like theme parks.

Trump says some of his friends are dead. Shocking. Trump thinks he has friends?

Joe Biden just said he may announce some of his Cabinet-level choices before the election. Thinking again one way to get media attention would be a short reality show each week where he unveils another pick—“I’ll tell you…after the break.”

Anyone else feeling that Dr. Birx is really ruining the idea of wearing scarfs when we go out in public again?

Trump bragging about 3.5 million tests. Uh, US population is 328 million.

Trump says “it’s going to be a “beautiful puzzle.” You know what else was beautiful? – the AIDS quilt.

CNN reports Trump plan says gyms can reopen in Phase 1, but not bars. Because no one ever gets sweaty and touches surfaces or breathes heavily in gyms?

But maybe Donald put gyms on his Phase I reopening list because he knows he’ll never be in one?

17 Governors have announced they will work with others in their region on when & how to re-open their states. Meanwhile Trump says he will announce his nationwide plan to start May 1. Donald’s like the guy screaming on a Zoom call who doesn’t realize everyone else has muted him.

As Rachel Maddow reports with justifiable rage about Trump administration ignoring deaths in our nursing homes and assisted living facilities, I’m reminded that I’m so old that I remember when Democrats were accused of wanting “death panels.”

So if Gilead Sciences’ antiviral medicine Remdesivir turns out to be effective against Coronavirus how long until Trump says he knew it first and accuses Democrats of pushing hydroxychloroquine?

Empty promises.

Dr. Fauci says that perhaps sports could return this summer, if there were basically no fans in the stands.

And any SF Giants fans from the old Candlestick Park days are thinking yeah, so just like the old weeknight games .

Of course, if professional sports are banned completely,   the Orioles may win the World Series by default.

Mayor DeBlasio saying there may not be professional sports in New York until 2021. Knicks going “hey, we started this months ago.”

On a non-political note anyone but me chopping vegetables extra carefully during COVID-19 pandemic, because they REALLY REALLY don’t want any finger injury that would necessitate a visit to urgent care?

At a Lansing rally  against Michigan’s  Stay at Home order, some folks were carrying Confederate flags. Thereby proving their grasp of history and geography is as good as their grasp of science.

As Trump tries to defund USPS and stop Vote by Mail, he tweets “Thanks for delivering”  @UPS

Once again “do as I say, not as I do” – check his Trump Store and campaign store websites “Orders shipped via USPS First Class Mail”

Rachel Maddow now reports that some of business leaders on Donald Trump’s list yesterday weren’t asked if they wanted to be on the list. Who’d a thunk a man accused by over 20 women of sexual assault would have a problem with consent?

Then Maddow to Elizabeth Warren  – “If Joe Biden asked you to be his running mate, what would you say?” “Yes.” Warren isn’t my first choice for that role but admire her, and her straight answer.

Have already seen both Warren and Abrams attacked in places for saying they would either accept or in Stacey’s case WANT to be considered as Biden’s VP. While have seen Klobuchar & Harris attacked for being “coy” with the question” Translation-  women can’t win.

Ivanka Trump, while DC is under a #StayAtHome order,  apparently took her family, and some unknown number of Secret Service agents to the Trump Golf Club in New Jersey for the first night of Passover.

Amazing she didn’t tweet out a picture suggesting for seders that people eat matzo cake.

Another thing Trump can blame WHO for?   These rather accurate lyrics:

“No one knows what it’s like To be hated To be fated To telling only lies But my dreams They aren’t as empty As my conscience seems to be.”

Sports analogy  I really REALLY miss baseball. And am reminded that when your favorite player ends up on the bench, it hurts, but you still root for the team, and them as part of that team. So yeah, I’m solidly behind the Democratic team, and now solidly behind our starter -Joe Biden.

NASCAR driver Kyle Larson was fired Tuesday by Chip Ganassi Racing, after uttering a racial slur during a live-streamed virtual race. How long until Trump invites him to the White House?

Trump – “We have to get our sports back. I’m tired of watching baseball games that are 14 years old”
Personally I think we need to get our White House back. I’m tired of watching a President who acts like he’s 14 years old.
(on a good day.)

So now it looks like obesity is a big risk factor for getting more serious COVID-19 cases. Great, just what we all need as we all stay home and and stress eat.

So is the only way Joe Biden can get serious media attention now is if he gathered 20 women politicians together as potential VP’s and each week gave fewer and fewer of them a rose?

So is someone on Joe Biden’s team keeping a “Day 1” list…. getting back into the Paris Climate Agreement, starting again to fund WHO, sanitizing the White House?

One again, the Onion is going “We give up.”
“The Treasury Department has ordered President Trump’s name be printed on stimulus checks the Internal Revenue Service is rushing to send to tens of millions of Americans, a process that is expected to slow their delivery by several days, senior agency officials said.”

As Rachel Maddow goes after South Dakota governor Kristi Noem for still not having a Stay At Home order, just pointing out the state is now in the top 20 for cases per capita.

One way to help save the USPS until President Biden takes over: Remind Trump if he shuts it down Americans won’t see his signature on those paper checks.

Look, I understand covering Trump train wreck press briefings. But again, what’s excuse for every major network not also covering Joe Biden’s virtual events, especially things like his Sanders and Obama endorsements?

Oh please, oh please, can some reporter ask Trump who he blames more at WHO- Pete Townshend or Roger Daltrey

Fight song

Right about now Democrats in the Midwest are so proud of Wisconsin voters we MIGHT even be able to get Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth, Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown and Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar to join in a rousing chorus of “On Wisconsin. “

Once.

Meanwhile, in Florida, WWE was deemed an “essential business.” by Governor Ron DeSantis.   I miss the days when Florida man was only a danger to himself.

Maybe a VERY important extra win from Wisconsin today – GOP getting a taste of how Trump can lose them state and local elections. If they smell blood in the water think many Republican elected officials will turn on him faster than Donald turns on staffers who disagree with him.

In all seriousness, does White House have a medical team standing by in case Trump has a cardiac event during one of his press briefing rants? Maybe after today they should.

While the Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders lovefest today was great to see, an open note to all those who suddenly think they’d be a great ticket together – Joe and Bernie together are 155 years old.

Trump apparently told people on a phone call today “I made Dr. Fauci a star.” This season of “Presidential Apprentice” really s*cks.

Pence says he wishes we could listen in on the conference call Governors had with Trump today. Uh, I want to listen in on the conference call Governors had after Trump hung up.

Have an idea. If Joe Biden calls Dr. Anthony Fauci and offers him a spot on HIS team, can networks just start covering Fauci and Team Joe instead of these White House clusterf*cks?

Or Since it’s a ratings game, if Joe Biden promises to show a video of a different train wreck at every one of his briefings and town halls, would networks consider giving him equal time with Trump?

Michelle Obama is now calling for nationwide #VoteByMail option this fall. This would be one time I’d be okay with Melania plagiarizing her.

It’s no secret I want Biden to pick Amy Klobuchar as his VP. But one I thing I know for sure, whichever capable woman Joe picks, he will value her intelligence & advice. And NEVER ask her to make a fool of herself as Trump does with Pence in these vanity briefings.

How happy must ESPN be? For some indefinite amount of time they can still refer to Tiger Woods as the “defending Masters champion?

Meanwhile, as a major sports fan who is also a complete klutz must admit I learned something today. 1. I will never be talented enough to play. 2. I finally understand the game “HORSE.”

How much do I miss live baseball? I even would have been thrilled to see another bleeping Yankees -Red Sox game tonight on Sunday Night Baseball.

Happy belated  Easter to All!   The quandry for many women – put on a nice Easter dress. Or just a spring-like pair of jammies?

Wonder how many Americans were desperate enough this Easter during Stay At Home that they would that they would actually eat a Peeps?

Though if I weren’t already a big fan of making Amy Klobuchar and John Bessler American’s replacement for Mike and Karen Pence. I give you, as posted by Amy today,  John’s frosted milk bunny lattes.  bunnylatte

Moved to California for college, never left. But so proud of my now adopted state for Coronavirus response. And now for the fact that our top trend on Twitter is #FireTrump (And btw Donald, rake your hair!)

Saturday night Kansas Supreme Court decided not to overturn Governor Laura Kelly’s order against church services. So just maybe they realized that overturning it after doing the hearing on Zoom was a bad look?

So when some people who went to church services on Easter  get sick, and they will, is it un-Christian to suggest they try to pray the coronavirus away?

WTAF?  Trump was actually bragging on Easter “For the first time in history there is a fully signed Presidential Disaster Declaration for all 50 States.” Of course if we had a President who actually paid attention to scientists we wouldn’t need the declaration. @JoeBiden

Ok, if we can save USPS and elect Joe Biden in November,  how satisfying will it be to tell Donald Trump in January 2021 about his final payday – “your check is in the mail?”

Two days without being on television or getting any real media attention….. Trump’s press briefing on Monday is going to set a record for unhinged.

Many years ago today…

It’s April 11, 2020. And it was not that much more than a month ago I was annoyed because the SF Giants should have had a home game today, the 20th Anniversary of the opening of Pac Bell Park.

Meanwhile, ESPN reports Tom Brady hopes to trademark “Tompa Bay”& “Tampa Brady” for clothing/merchandise. How I wish that was the biggest story involving an egocentric a** today?

The Navy says  the number of confirmed COVID19 cases on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt is now 550.  Imagine what it would have been had Crozier not written that lette

Six people were shot, none of them fatally, at a party in Bakersfield last night. But were they shot because of an argument? Or for being idiotic enough to have the party in the first place?

Rand Paul, just recovered from COVID-19 is angry at Kentucky Gov. Beshear for wanting to quarantine churchgoers. “Taking license plates at church? Quarantining someone for being Christian on Easter Sunday? Someone needs to take a step back here.” We are all Rand Paul’s neighbor.

Steve Scalise was almost fatally shot, & saved by a Capitol married lesbian police officer, without changing his mind on gun control or LGBTQ rights. So guess we shouldn’t be surprised Rand Paul  has learned nothing on healthcare or public safety from having had COVID-19.

Wonder how many people who thought there was no difference between Hillary and Donald just had it hit home when probably in large part due to Trump’s botching Coronavirus response they’ve now canceled Burning Man?

Why is Trump calling re-opening the U.S. the “biggest decision I’d ever had to make?” When we all know if anything goes wrong Donald will blame the decision on someone else and say “I take no responsibility.”

A trending Twitter hashtag Saturday was #KeepTexasRed  Seems like they are same ones ignoring social distancing and “Stay at home” orders.  Who wants to tell them?

If only Trump responded as quickly and with as much passion to shortages of lifesaving supplies as he does to a negative story in the NY Times or Washington Post.

In  2003, California voters, angry over state’s energy & budget crisis, actually recalled Gov. Gray Davis. Whatever you thought of Davis, he did much less harm than Brian Kemp & Ron DeSantis are doing now. How does Georgia Gov. Stacey Abrams & Florida Gov. Gwen Graham sound?

So is Trump going to wake up early  Easter morning in hopes of getting all networks to cover him pardoning a rabbit?

Uh, the only thing Trump respects is money. IRS collects over $3 trillion a year, processes over 250 million returns. And uh, IRS says “Use the U.S. Postal Service® to mail your tax return, get proof that you mailed it, and track its arrival at the IRS.” #VoteByMail

Trump attacked Lindsey Graham as a RINO for telling Donald that instead of daily press briefings “a once-a-week show” could be more effective. Where’s the t-shirt that says “I sold my soul and all I got was a few lousy trips to Mar-A-Lago?”

No protection?

72% of Americans polled said they would not attend if sporting events resumed without a vaccine for the coronavirus.

Wonder how many of that 72% have had their flu shots?

A fake story about Colin Kaepernick signing with the Jets was making the rounds as truth on Thursday. Well, it was probably less harmful lie than many at the “coronavirus task force briefings.”

Meanwhile Dr. Fauci said we should probably avoid handshakes for the forseeable future, along with high-fives at sporting events.  So that means Orioles fans are probably safe to return.

Medicare to 60!   Last night Bernie Sanders, on Colbert called Biden a friend, said Joe’s “not going to adopt my platform I got that, but if he can move in that direction, people will say that this is a guy we could support and will support.”

Trump says testing for coronavirus is not necessary for the United States to get back to normal. Translation: Because as he said back when he didn’t want to to let people off the Grand Princess “I like the numbers being where they are.”

If Trump thinks we’re getting closer to opening the U.S., why did he just start mandatory coronavirus tests for reporters attending his vanity press rallies? Asking for a country.

Trump tweeted get well wishes today to Boris Johnson and that it was “great news” the UK PM has been moved out of intensive care. Has he shown the same concern for ANY American?

Trump is allowing Dr. Fauci to be interviewed solo on CNN  Friday morning.  At 7:00am. On the East Coast. Because Donald couldn’t make them do it at 5:00am?

So with Fox News continually downplaying coronavirus risk, wonder what their viewers will tell themselves while they are dying?

Another reason we need #VoteByMail, I switched to permanent absentee in California after our local polling spot once had over an hour long line. Now I just WANTED to get to work because I was really busy… but many people cannot afford to lose an hour’s salary.

Chanel Rion of OANN tweeted today “I’m not “Breaking White House Distancing Guidelines,” I’m the only journalist in the room personally invited by ⁦White House” Uh, shouldn’t being “personally invited by White House” be disqualifying for an independent journalist?

We know Trump didn’t write this. It’s grammatically correct, uses correct spelling, and doesn’t insult John McCain.

As all of golf’s majors have been canceled or postponed,  ESPN could pretend they are still going on…by devoting coverage every weekend to Tiger Woods.

Your reminder, for all that Trump might pretend he wanted to face Joe Biden, Donald committed impeachable acts just to try to knock Joe out of the race.

Look, I don’t forget that the worst moment of Joe Biden’s career might have involved Anita Hill. But I also don’t forget that the deciding SCOTUS vote on whether Wisconsin could have delayed absentee voting should have come from Merrick Garland.

Again, it hurts when your candidate doesn’t win the primary. But sure seem to be a lot of Sanders supporters on Twitter today who have moved right to stage two of grief…

OMFG. Some anti Joe Biden folks are complaining that Biden voted to confirm Scalia. Antonin Scalia was confirmed in 1986. The Senate vote was 98-0

While we’re at it on SCOTUS confirmation votes, NOW seeing some anti Joe Biden folks arguing that 98-0 confirmation vote for Scalia just proves Democrats and Republicans are equally bad. Guess who got confirmed 96-3? Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Amy Klobuchar on #Lastword said Sanders’ suspending campaign was “an act of patriotism” & he was “back on calls, back to work today in the Senate.” Amy added he told her Wisconsin lines were “heartbreaking” & an “outrage” Sounds like Bernie is over it more than his supporters.

Interesting how day after California says they are shipping 500 ventilators to other states, Trump says he is shipping 100 ventilators to Colorado. Two things. 1. It won’t save Cory Gardner’s Senate seat. 2. Even when Donald tries to be competitive he comes up small.

Trump acts like COVID-19 is an urban issue. Wash Post tonight lists ten US counties with highest rate of coronavirus deaths. Yes, New York CIty is up there & 2 are in Louisiana, But five of the ten counties are in rural Georgia. (the other two are rural Montana and Oklahoma.)

Trump today says we can use this time to pray, reflect, and focus on “our personal relationship with God.” God is thinking “Who the heck is this guy? never heard from him before”

Washington Post reports Thomas Modly’s trip to Guam to criticize Captain Crozier cost US taxpayers $243,000 for his flight alone. Gosh, that’s almost half as much as a Trump golf weekend.

Now this is taking the high road.  Linda Tripp died today. But THIS tweet was sent just before her death A good example for our country right now.

no matter the past, upon hearing that linda tripp is very seriously ill, i hope for her recovery. i can’t imagine how difficult this is for her family.”
– the tweeter  – Monica Lewinsky.

Interesting quote of the day, as the Biden VP derby begins. “I have certainly met much more discrimination in terms of being a woman than being black, in the field of politics.” The speaker…? – – – – Shirley Chisholm

Thanks to a Facebook friend I discovered 1968 World Series tonight on MLB Network. While these are tough times, a glass of wine, a cat on my lap, and now watching Mickey Lolich pitch game 7 at midnight might be as good as it gets for #StayAtHome.

After new football coach Mike Leach tweeted out a cartoon of a woman knitting a noose for her husband during self-quarantine, Mississippi State AD John Cohen said the school will provide Leach with opportunities to “expand his cultural awareness of Mississippi.”
Uh, I’m one of the least PC liberals I know, but how much “cultural awareness” do you need to know a noose isn’t funny ANYWHERE in the South?

Across the country, Democratic Governors are turning the  Donald Trump, the Backup In Chief, into the Presidential Version of Wally Pipp.

Can we say now that Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly’s thinking he could insult a beloved and respected Captain without repercussions was “naive and stupid?”

Today Trump attacked the Post office for not charging businesses enough: Uh. if you go to the Trump online store:  “Orders process and deliver within 10-14 business days via the United States Postal Service for delivery within the Domestic U.S. only.”

Sherrod Brown is the latest to endorse Joe Biden. A significant issue, one of the people who got Sherrod to run for Senate in 2006 in the first place, was his good friend, then Congressman Bernie Sanders.

Watching Joe Biden on CNN after watching Donald Trump press briefing is like a shower for the soul.

So Trump thinks that Wisconsin voters should vote for a GOP judge to protect their 2nd amendment. Does he think guns are the new hydroxychloroquine?

Let us be very clear: If we had a functioning democracy the fifth vote on Wisconsin Election would have been cast in favor of delayed absentee ballots. By Merrick Garland.

About #VoteByMail, 2 real-life California examples: A friend scrawled an illegible signature, his ballot was returned to sign again. I forgot to sign mine 2 years ago, I had to mail or fax in a signature. Vote By Mail is not corrupt. And our democracy & lives may depend on it.

So now Trump is using the “I was a cheerleader” defense? Uh, I had several friends who were cheerleaders. Athleticism and enthusiasm were required. Not turning off your brain. Or lying.

Lost in today’s lie-fest, Trump basically saying you couldn’t understate number of coronavirus deaths, because death was death. Uh, actually it’s real easy. Just don’t have enough tests. You can’t pin deaths on the virus if you can pretend people don’t have it.

I can’t wait to vote for Joe Biden in November, and will be even happier if it’s a Biden Klobuchar ticket. But how much must it be killing Trump that President Newsom is trending tonight on Twitter right now? #BackupInChief

Rebirth 2020

(#Rebirth2020 was a hashtage retweeted a lot by among others,  the amazing Steve Gleason.)
ESPN replayed  Monday Night Football, September 25, 2006. The return of football to New  Orleans after Katrina, first SuperDome game for a guy named Drew Brees.  Saints had signed him to a big contract despite worries over whether he could really return from a shoulder injury.  Yeah, he’s only been durable enough to play 14 more years.
That blocked punt by Steve Gleason for a New Orleans TD in first quarter of Saints Falcons game on September 26, 2006 is one of the best NFL moments. Ever.
Love this tweet from NFL reporter Mike Triplett  Getting over it is for sissies. #WhoDat
When do we find out if the ratings were higher in New Orleans for this 2006 regular-season game rebroadcast than last year’s Super Bowl?!”

Al Kaline wasn’t my very favorite player. But he was THE superstar on my very first favorite team. And Kaline got game-winning hit in 7th inning of game 5 to start the World Series comeback for 1968 Tigers. That Series was when I really fell in love with baseball. R.I.P.

California is sending ventilators to New York and may send to other states. And we’re doing it without telling anyone to rake anything.

Nancy Pelosi on Rachel Maddow says we need someone in charge of coronavirus response. But that would involve Trump admitting someone knows more than him about anything.

Back on March 24, GOP Rep Thomas Massie  of Kentucky, tweeted “Universal vote by mail would be the end of our republic as we know it.” Maybe he meant “the end of the Republican party as we now it.”

Wisconsin GOP and SCOTUS have decided that anyone who hasn’t received an absentee ballot must vote tomorrow in person. I don’t EVER want to hear another Republican or SCOTUS judge say they are “Pro-Life.” Period.

RIP Lee Fierro, who played Mrs Kintner in Jaws. The woman who slapped the chief’s face: “You knew there was a shark out there. You knew it was dangerous, but you let people go swimming anyway. You knew all those things, “My boy is dead. I wanted you to know that.” How many people want to slap Trump & say the same about COVID-19

Amazing how some of the same people who insist China is lying about their Coronavirus case and death numbers, are convinced Trump and the USA are being honest about OUR numbers.

Trump today bragging about letting people off ships w/ coronavirus “People we’re (sic) dying & no other countries would allow them to dock!”

Trump March 9 “I’d rather have people stay (on Grand Princess) I don’t need to have numbers double because of 1 ship that wasn’t our fault.’

Donald Trump  – “Democrats want to make Trump look as bad as possible to win an election they shouldn’t be allowed to win.”  (yes, he used the 3rd person.)

More to the point, Donald just said the quiet part out loud.

The moment I wake up…

Anyone else still have moments when you wake up and just for half a second think “What time is the game on?”

You know it’s a slow sports day when… one of the lead stories on ESPN is how the Los Angeles Rams, despite backlash and jokes,  have no plan to move away from their new logos and colors.

How long until Rams say the refs decided the new logo needed no further  review?

(No, Saints fans aren’t still bitter.)

Yesterday, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp issued an Executive Order that “lifted any local ordinances/orders that had closed or restricted access to Georgia beaches. Who does Kemp think he is, the mayor of Amity Island?

Many years ago, Air France used to have smoking sections, not in the back, but on one side of the plane, ie left side smoking, right side nonsmoking. And I always thought that made about as much sense as expecting coronavirus to respect state and county lines.

So Surgeon General Jerome Adams says “This is going to be our Pearl Harbor moment, our 9/11 moment.” Right, if FDR and George W. Bush were TOLD the planes were coming and both decided to ignore them and go golfing.

With UK PM Boris Johnson hospitalized Trump was asked Sunday “Are you (and Pence) considering staying away from each other to assure continuity of government?”

Well, VP IS contractually obligated to stay within a**-kissing distance at all times.

Have nothing personal against UK PM Boris Johnson and wish him the best. But wonder if Trump will advise him to take hydroxychloroquine?

“Why not let the science speak for itself?” Trump says he’s not promoting hydroxychloroquine. While he keeps promoting it.

Right about now I’d take Dr. Strangelove over Dr. Trump.

One thing I love about Joe Biden: he can say four very difficult words: “I made a mistake.” Now, can the same be said by 2016 Trump voters?

Even the Yankees-Redsox..

Don’t sound so bad.

Such a small thing, but yeah, it made me sad. Tomorrow’s Sunday Night Baseball game at 8:30pm was actually going to be Dodgers vs SF Giants.  Next scheduled Dodgers-Giants Sunday night game. July 16. And that seems like a longshot.

Trump said today  “Americans want to see basketball & baseball & football & hockey. They want to see their sports. They want to go out onto the golf courses and breathe nice, clean, beautiful fresh air.” Translation “I WANNA GOLF!!! WAAAAAA”

Trump tweeted “To all of our youth who are missing start of their @LittleLeague  seasons, hang in there! We will get you back out on the fields, & know that you will be playing baseball soon…” Uh, does anyone think Donald ever has been to little league game? (Mets don’t count.)

“He’s stuck in his room. He’d like to be playing sports,” pause, “Barron” Does Donald want credit for remembering his son’s name?

As Trump acts like sparsely populated states don’t need #StayAtHome orders, your reminder, in 1895 the state of Ohio only had 2 registered vehicles in it. And they crashed into each other.

South Dakota state representative Bob Glanzer, 74, died from coronavirus Friday night. Your reminder that South Dakota is one of 8 states without a #StayAtHome order. And Trump says those Governors are doing a great job.

For those looking for a reason to smile – how about this, Joe Biden has promised that in the VP debates, Mike Pence is going to have to be alone with a woman this fall.

Franklin Graham said people are dying of the Coronavirus because man has sinned against God. Right, because no church congregations have had cluster outbreaks with many dead. Oh, wait, never mind.

Who knew Shakespeare might have predicted coronavirus task force press conference with Jared Kushner? “A tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

-Bl

Just imagine if in a performance review your boss criticizes you, and you respond by blaming the guy who had the job three years ago.

Saturday math: Combined population of states led by 8 GOP governors without #StayAtHome orders, approx 18.5 million. Population of New York state. approx 19.5 mill Electoral votes for 8 states – 41 Electoral votes for New York – 29 Anyone doubt Trump will help those Red states?

To be fair, if Coronavirus had become a global health problem during Obama’s presidency, sure Barack would have worked with WHO, scientists, governors and other world leaders to limit the pandemic. But admittedly he might have done all that wearing a tan suit.

Have to wonder, when sports start up again, will they need tests for all fans, maybe temperature at least,  on entrance, to try to make sure no one transmits Coronavirus?  And logistically how would this work with big crowds, how early might fans need to arrive, and how much could the testing delay games?

Thinking maybe the first baseball team cleared to play home games might be the Miami Marlins.

Okay, you know you and your friends are adapting to #StayAtHome when you try to schedule a phone cocktail hour with someone and they’re already booked through the week.

As hospitals overflow and people worry about rent, it sure would be nice if POTUS knew anyone with empty hotels or resorts that might be able to be used to house Americans in need.

So how long until Trump fundraising team starts soliciting donations for the chance to win a beautiful signed anti-coronavirus scarf?

Trump “In many cases a scarf will be better, thicker.” than a medical mask.
Translation “Ivanka has millions of scarves she wants to sell. Beautiful scarves…”

Kushner says Trump heard THIS MORNING from “friends” that NY hospitals were running low on supplies. Because Cuomo and De Blasio screaming at the top of their lungs didn’t count????!!!!!!

Thought it was a joke, but no, Jared Kushner really did say “The notion of the federal stockpile was it’s supposed to be our stockpile. It’s not supposed to be states’ stockpiles that they then use.” “L’etat c’est moi.” at least sounded pretty in French.

If heat killed coronavirus how do you explain Florida?

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has bowed to church leaders, and overruled local city and county power to ban large religious gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic. So when parishioners get sick can they be treated with prayer and isolated within those churches?

Again, now that CNN and other networks have  decided that they aren’t covering all of Trump’s vanity press briefings, WHY don’t they give Joe Biden and other  Democratic leaders equal time during the gaps????

Brian Kemp claimed he had no idea until today people without coronavirus symptoms can still spread virus. Don’t forget Amy Klobuchar – “My friend Stacey Abrams would be governor of Georgia right now if it wasn’t for voting violations.” Voter suppression is a civil rights issue.

Losses and no losses.

If someone had told me after an Opening Week schedule against the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks that the SF Giants would be undefeated, I’d have thought it was an April Fool’s Joke.

Meanwhile, have the Orioles been eliminated yet?

Robert Kraft sent the New England Patriots plane to China to pick up  protective equipment to bring to Massachusetts, after the state’s governor has complained of the state being outbid here in the US.

Damn, I have to say “well played” about anything involving the Patriots?

But I hope none of the equipment ended up deflated.

Noticed on a package of ground chicken today “always cook to well-done.” Is there ANYONE who thought rare chicken was a good idea? (Suppose, seriously, that a whole lot of the younger generation is going to suddenly learn basic cooking skills.)

Do you realize some day we all may be telling our grandchildren “Yeah, we used to do these things called hugs and handshakes.”

Direct quote from Trump Monday on the Klobuchar-Wyden #VoteByMail bill: ‘They had things-levels of voting that if you ever agreed to it you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again.” When you say the quiet part out loud.

Not that it really matters… but anyone have any idea who Trump’s “infected friend in a coma” is?

Fox News reports Joe Biden has offered to call Trump to discuss a strategy to combat coronavirus pandemic. So has White House replied with a list of compliments for dear leader that must be included in first minute of the call?

Ron DeSantis just ordered #StayAtHome for Florida. Talk about locking the door when not only the horses are out, but also the barn is already engulfed in flames.

As Joe Biden decides on a running mate who he wants to be a strong enough woman who is qualified to be President, your reminder that Donald Trump picked Mike Pence precisely not in spite of Pence being weak, but because of it.

Per Rachel Maddow,   Oklahoma and Kentucky received more medical equipment than they requested. Illinois, Massachusetts and Maine got only a fraction of their requests. When punishing blue states gets dangerously close to murder…

Let’s not make a deal?

Saw ESPN story that Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin will give Tom Brady his #12 and switch to #14.
Godwin told the Bucs website that no compensation was involved. No compensation?. Uh.Chris Godwin is in the last year of a 4-year, $3.2 million contract, Brady just signed a 2-year $50 million guaranteed contract. Has someone checked Chris for concussions?

Toronto’s has cancelled all city-led and permitted events through June 30 but the mayor said it doesn’t apply to professional sports teams.   So the 67-95 2019 Blue Jays might squeak by.

It would be wrong to refer to “Diamond and Silk” as “Cubic Zirconia and Rayon.” So I won’t do it. But “Cubic Zirconia and Rayon” are what fakes are made of.

“It’s a really rough time for the United States but I’m so thrilled to hear Lindsay Lohan has a new single” said… no one?!

Have to wonder, if the late, great Molly Ivins were still alive, would she have shamed Texas Governor Greg Abbott into more stringent #StayAtHome measures?   Either way, tonight I REALLY miss Molly Ivins.

So now that it’s “30 days to slow the spread” there’s a new postcard almost certainly coming to most Americans. “President Trump’s Coronavirus Guidelines for America.” Uh, Donald, this time can the postcard be printed on softer stock? We all could use more toilet paper.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says he’s talking to White House’s coronavirus task force, but they haven’t yet recommended stay-at-home order for Florida: “If they do, obviously that would be something that would carry a lot of weight w/ me.”
So DeSantis is saying the equivalent of “Mom never told me not to play in traffic?”

Anyone who saw the first part of Trump’s press conference and thought he was adopting a new Presidential tone (again) must have watched the first half of Titanic and thought it was just a costume drama about shipboard romance.

More than once today Donald refers a question to Dr. Fauci or Deb
Since these sh*tshows are going to continue, wonder if some reporter can PLEASE ask a question of Vice President Pence or Donny?

Per Maddow tonight:   SIX states have no statewide stay-at-home orders. Nevada, North . Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska., Iowa, Arkansas.   Eleven other states Utah, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Wyoming have partial orders.

What do all those states but Nevada and Pennsylvania have in common?

“One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.” Donald Trump, talking in February about coronavirus. Americans, talking in January 2021 about the Trump Presidency.

Different colors.

How much as an SF Giants fan did I dread the idea of seeing Madison Bumgarner in a Diamondbacks uniform this year?
How happy as a baseball fan will I be to see Madison Bumgarner play a real MLB game in any uniform this year?

And open note to KNBR, the Giants’ flagship station : I love the SF Giants and can’t wait for baseball to come back but if you ever air an ad for “My Pillow” again I may have to find another way to listen to games. Thank you.

On a lighter note – love this Twitter exchange. Drew Brees @drewbrees

· 15h The baby rattlesnakes were out today… Saw them on the late afternoon walk with the dogs. instagram.com/p/B-V3WleHMXp/ Sean Payton

· 13h Let’s find a different route. Ok?

Who knew that one day “what you could do for your country” would be being a couch potato?

Winston Churchill to President Roosevelt during the London Blitz “Give us the tools, and we will finish the job.”

Donald Trump to Governors during the Coronavirus pandemic “I haven’t heard about testing being a problem.”

Trump really really wants a holiday named after him. Can I suggest April 1?

Gavin Newsom on “the Daily Show with Trevor Noah” saying California only received 400 ventilators from Feds, all broken, down in Los Angeles, but that they shipped them to Silicon Valley, got them fixed & returned them to LA. Almost think Trump is disappointed the ventilators were fixable.

So how much would we all give to see some reporter at tomorrow’s  CoronavirusPress Conference ask Donald how he gets his spray tan person declared “essential?”

Serious question, is Trump looking at the way coronavirus is ravaging some urban areas now and figuring that he’s fine because it will kill more blue voters?

Glossary for those who need help translating Trump Press Conference “That’s a snarky, nasty question.” Translation – “You just pointed out one of my obvious lies.”

As Rachel Maddow points out, among the states in the US with the highest number of coronavirus, Florida alone has no statewide #StayAtHome order. Missouri, with a 600% increase in cases, doesn’t have one either. Wonder what these two states have in common?

I’ve been a passionate Democrat all my life. This means 2 things.

 1. I have cried, more than once, over a really good candidate who didn’t make it through the primary.

2. I have then put on my big girl pants & voted for the winner in the general. Period. #VoteBlueNoMatterWho

Resilience.

As a number of college basketball players say they will declare early for the NBA draft, wondering what kind of youthful optimism makes them think there WILL be an NBA draft.

We all have to do what we can to get through this crisis, but have a certain amount of respect for a Saints fan I know on Twitter who is spending all his stay at home time trolling the Atlanta Falcons and their fans.

For all these folks predicting a Coronavirus baby boom, have to think thought of HAVING to visit your doctor regularly soon then knowing a hospital visit is coming in 9 months would be enough to talk millions into safe sex.

And now Trump is rage tweeting that he won’t pay for security for Harry and Meghan? Uh, all those cities Donald has never paid back for covering his ego rallies say “Hi.”

Now Trump says he’ll be keeping the social distancing guidelines until April 30. So how long until Donald attacks media who repeat his quotes about opening by Easter?

Since Trump is so concerned about television ratings could we all promise him that he could get the highest ratings ever recorded for this resignation speech? I promise to watch, RT if you agree.

Pretty sure in retrospect that we saw Trump’s re-election strategy today in Rose Garden – announce that 2 million Americans could die. Then with death toll anything below that he will personally take credit for saving the others.

Yeah, it’s an indecent proposal, but since it’s all about ratings with Donald could we pay someone to have sex with Trump in a windmill if he’d stop these inane press conferences? #TheBachelor

How long until Trump says it was Hunter Biden’s idea to ship all US PPE to China?

Ket me ask a simple question, if Bernie Sanders had 1,217 delegates, compared to Joe Biden’s 914 delegates, and of the 171 remaining pledged delegates, most of them were pledged to Sanders endorsers, would Bernie and his supporters be urging Biden to stay in?

Another longer post:. This post is not about whether Joe Biden is the very best nominee the Democrats could have chosen. (And hey, I still think Bill Bradley was better than Al Gore, and Howard Dean would have been better than John Kerry. For starters.) But the fact remains, if it were not for this Coronavirus pandemic, Biden would either already be the official nominee by now, or over the top on April 28. And I have more than made my peace with that.
So it increasingly strikes me that soon, Biden should name his running mate, his first SCOTUS pick, and those he has chosen, assuming they agree, for his cabinet. This is not to insult Bernie Sanders, but to give those women, and men, higher stature, and more of a platform to speak out as part of a Democratic alternative to the current sh*tshow we see daily with Trump’s task force. And it will give the media less of an excuse not to cover that alternative.
