Bowling for what?

December 21, 2019

There were two College Bowl football games Friday, with SEVEN scheduled tomorrow. And if you can name more than one  or two of them, and/or the teams involved, and you aren’t an alum of a school involved, you just might need a life.

The Golden State Warriors without Steph Curry beat the New Orleans Pelicans without Zion Williamson tonight 106-102.

I’ll take “games that sounded a lot more interesting when they drew up the schedule” for $400, Alex.”

Steelers waived safety Kameron Kelly, 23, after he was arrested outside a bar after altercation that apparently started when Kelly “threatened to knock out a bar employee after his music choice was skipped on the jukebox.” Most 23 year-olds are going “jukebox?

On a nonpolitical note seems like from reviews of #Cats movie that two hours would be better (and more cheaply) spent by watching actual cat videos.

So as Trump has authorized $2 billion for “Space Force, ” did he consider asking Michael Jordan to head it?

Kevin Costner will endorse Pete Buttigieg tomorrow at an Iowa Town Hall. Not in Dyersville at the Field of Dreams site??? Well, at least the event won’t be held in a wine cave.

How much does it drive Trump crazy that Melania’s 13 year-old son is taller than he is?

Ivanka says her father is “energized” by impeachment. Right. Any of us who drink diet sodas probably have a memory of guzzling too many of them and ending up on a major jittery caffeine buzz.

So who’s going to tell Trump you don’t impeach a Speaker of the House?

Are we shocked that Trump attacked Christianity Today? Amazed Donald hasn’t attacked Jesus as a radical leftist Socialist.

Trump today called Christianity Today a “far-left magazine.” Oh please oh please can someone read him some passages about love and humility and poor people so Donald can make a similar statement about the Bible?

Trump in his rant about Christianity Today says “I won’t be reading ET again!” “ET?” Uh, Donnie, Eric, and Ivanka, phone home. Your dad is sundowning early.

“This is a global Watergate. In the case of Watergate, a paranoid president facing election looked for dirt on a political opponent. He did it by getting people to break in. This president did it by calling a foreign leader to look for dirt on a political opponent.”   Amy Klobuchar

More than one thing at once…

December 19, 2019

So yeah, I was obsessively following Democratic Debate all night. But also have noticed Spurs making a great late game comeback to beat Nets. Women can multitask. Elect more of us.

Projected top NBA pick James Wiseman, currently suspended 12 games over an NCAA investigation, has withdrawn from Memphis and declared for the draft.  Well, the Tigers were only 2-1 in the Wiseman era.

Wonder how long  it will take for Wiseman to declare his time at Memphis some of the best weeks of his life.

So did USDA add then remove Wakanda as a trade partner because Trump preferred better relations with Gilead?

Yeah, I’m biased at this point but Amy Klobuchar’s answer on impeachment should be a campaign commercial. One of the best cases for impeachment I have heard from a Democrat. #GlobalWatergate

All these talk of how tonight’s Democratic Debate is the least diverse…. Uh, at this point we’ve had more Presidents of color than we’ve had Presidents who are women.
And there are two women on the stage tonight.

Tom Steyer wants to take credit for impeachment. While at the same time, once House actually started impeachment proceedings Steyer stopped spending money on impeachment ads in favor of ads for himself.

Not a Tom Steyer fan, but he is right on this one. Trump is not against immigration. He is against immigration by non-white people.

Elizabeth Warren when told she’d be the oldest person ever inaugurated. She responded “But I’d be the youngest woman.” Well played.

So mentioning Trump’s youngest son in a sentence causes GOP to clutch their pearls, but implying a beloved ex-Congressman is in Hell is just “riffing?” Are we great yet?

Trump latest fundraising email praises Jeff Van Drew, “I’m PROUD to announce that he is officially the newest member of the Republican Party.”
Since Van Drew is all about saving his own a**, and is in a purple district, too soon to start a pool on when he will do something Donald doesn’t like thus prompting a twitter attack?

Well, of course Jeff Van Drew told Trump he has his “undying support.” We all know how much Donald values loyalty and reciprocates it.

Trump says tonight “I want an immediate trial!” Fine, then show up with witnesses. And take the stand. #impeachment

How desperate was Trump today? He’s retweeting a picture of him inappropriately hugging a flag, and a MAGA tweet complimenting him from September 2018. #Sad

Fight on and off

December 19, 2019

USC’s recruiting class is ranked last in Pac 12 and from 74th to 85th in all of college football. Did Clay Hilton use as a consultant Lori Loughlin?

Ouch, Washington Wizards led 93-75 with 8:21 left in the fourth and lost 110-109 in OT to the Chicago Bulls.  Or as Trump calls it, a great win. Anything else is Fake News.

As we head into NFL week 16, this from the very funny Hartley Miller  “A new survey says the average American wakes up grumpy 300 days of the year. Make that 365 days if your name is Bill Belichick”

Thought I have to ask  – is  “waking up Grumpy, the job that Melania delegates to the Secret Service when Donald oversleeps?”

Bed Bath & Beyond just announced the departure of six members of its executive team. Assume the company will at least will give all six a 20% store discount for life?

Anybody but me getting to the point when you see wines advertised as “age until at least 2030-40” and thinking “as if my tastebuds will be able to tell the difference in 20-30 years?”

Trump quoting Ken Starr on impeachment. “The evidence has to be overwhelming, and it is not. It’s not even close.” Is it too late for the Democrats to call as a witness Stormy Daniels?

Trump’s actions toward Biden resulted in impeachable offenses. But does anyone think Donald hasn’t committed crimes trying to get dirt on any of his other potential 2020 rivals?

Tulsi Gabbard voted “Present” on Impeaching Trump. Leaving everything else aside, she honestly thinks Americans might elect her to make hard choices?
Trump rally in Battle Creek tonight. Makes sense, his coloring looks as natural as an orange Fruit Loop. #Kelloggs

Donald Trump at his cult rally tonight “I could have Barron Trump go into Central Park and he’d get a crowd. He’d get a bigger crowd,” than Elizabeth Warren. Uh, Melania,  think we have a exploitation of a “13 year old who wants and deserves privacy” alert. #BeBest

GOP comparing Trump’s impeachment to the crucifixion of Jesus and Pearl Harbor. What’s next, they’ll say it’s as bad as someone saying “Happy Holidays?”

Wonder if someone in GOP was going to compare impeaching Trump to clubbing baby seals until they remembered that Don Jr, probably thinks that’s sport?

Sometimes people ask why I am a Saints fan. I ask, how can you not be? #WhoDat
Tweet from @drewbrees
I am so grateful for New Orleans and the #whodatnation. We have shared many amazing moments together, and last night was very special. Thank you for being part of this journey. We are not done yet!

RIP legendary College Football coach Hayden Fry, 90.
After he was fired from SMU in 1972 he had one of my all-time favorite lines .
“I won’t say goodbye because it sounds so final, I won’t say farewell because it sounds so trite. But I’ve pinned a sprig of mistletoe to my coat tails, and as I leave, you’ll get the message.”

With all the games already this season where the outcome was changed by bad calls, does anyone really think we’ll get through NFL playoffs without another major referee game-changing mistake?

NFL suspended Josh Gordon “indefinitely” for violating league’s policies on PED’s and substances of abuse. So, sadly, congratulations to all those who had Dec 16 in the pool.

In Northern England, a man sprayed the inside of his car with apparently a  lot of air freshener, then lit a cigarette. The car exploded.   (He received only minor injuries)

Your move, Florida.

After today’s letter from Trump to Pelosi will they change “Hail to the Chief” to “poor poor pitiful me?”

As unfair as the Salem Witch Trials were to the women accused, if McConnell gets his way the Senate impeachment trial will be more unfair to democracy.

As Trump takes his number of tweet rants up over 100 a day, has he forgotten that he and GOP have been doing their best to discourage actual reading?

WTAF? Trump calls himself a “very successful (Economy Plus) President of the United States.” As a travel agent can tell you almost no one really loves Economy Plus, it’s same lousy coach seats on United a few inches further apart for up to $250 more per flight.

More on  “Economy Plus”. Does the stable genius realize United was losing so much business to other airlines w/ actual upgraded mid-class seats that they came out w/ “Premium Plus”, a separate mid-class cabin. Can’t wait until USA can upgrade to at least a Premium Plus President!

Bye bye Black Hole

December 16, 2019

So as the Raiders prepare to leave Oakland again, too soon to lay odds on how long until Las Vegas doesn’t want them either?

Unhappiest people who aren’t 49er fans after Atlanta Falcons not only came back to take a 23-22 lead with two seconds to go, but scored another touchdown and won 29-22 when San Francisco fumbled during a  series of laterals during the ensuing kickoff -anyone who bet the under. (Which closed at 49.)

Three interceptions for Bengals QB Andy Dalton today. Almost like the Patriots knew what was coming. Oh wait, maybe they did. #Spygate2

Seriously, Hallmark, in an era when so many people just do online cards or send wishes on social media, you really want to antagonize all LGBTQ folks and most of the American card-buying public by caving to a few homophobes?

(and after I wrote this, Hallmark apparently figured this out too and apologized and put the ads back.)

Diamondbacks at least better than the Dodgers. #MadisonBumgarner #ForeverGiant

Just thinking Farhan Zaidi is not going to be the most popular person if he decides to show up in the stands at SF Giants games in 2020.

At this time Ted Cruz has become such a #Cult45 member that he’d probably make excuses if Donald’s threatened Canada unless Trudeau produced evidence that Rafael Cruz did help kill JFK.

Whatever is preventing Donald Trump from golfing these days, it sure is making him cranky.

Trump tweeted about  Nancy Pelosi saying she was crazy and had teeth falling out.  Since with Donald everything is projection, I have to assume he’s having serious trouble with his dentures.

Donnie Jr. tweeting on Jeff van Drew “So great to see someone willing to put party politics aside and call balls and strikes when they see them.” (Like Mitt Romney earlier this year?) This quote will age well…

Mickey Mouse Organization?

December 15, 2019

Anthony Rendon, after signing with the Angels, said he liked the Dodgers organizationally but that “the Hollywood lifestyle” of L.A. “didn’t seem like it would be a fit for us as a family.”
Well, good thing Rendon isn’t going to be anywhere near the theme park associated with the biggest movie studio in America.

Last four Spurs games.
W135-133 2OT over Houston
W105-104 OT over Sacramento
L117-109 OT to Cleveland
W121-119 OT over Phoenix
Can Pop maybe tell San Antonio that basketball games are supposed to end after 4 quarters.

All these “last chance” online sales with shipping to get gifts by Christmas, on December 14. When we know that merchants will keep doing these ads for a week, or more. It’s like a parent saying “If you do this again next time you’ll be punished, really.”

Hallmark Channel pulled ads from wedding planner website Zola, after “One Million Moms”, a conservative group, complained after one of Zola’s ads featured a lesbian couple, with mostly heterosexual wedding guests, who actually kissed during their ceremony.

Uh, isn’t outrage over two women kissing on TV so 1990s?

Would love to hear one member of the so-called One Million Moms explain how they think it’s worse for their children to see two women kiss than to hear POTUS talk about grabbing women by the p*ssy.

If rumors are true that NJ Rep. Jeff Van Drew, who might lose his Democratic primary challenge, is switching parties to become a Republican, there’s just one question. What did Trump offer him?

From end of SNL cold open spoofing family Christmas political discussions – “all three families had one important thing in common… none of them live in the three states that will decide our election. They’ll debate the issues all year long but then it all comes down to 1,000 people in Wisconsin who won’t even think about the election until the morning of. And that’s the magic of the Electoral College.”
This would be funnier if it weren’t possibly true.

Who says there’s no diversity in the Democratic party. Why, over on Twitter today alone I’ve followed back people who identify as Dodgers, Yankees, Buckeyes and even Patriots fans. Not to mention one resister who says he only “tolerates” cats.
#BigTent

Birth right?

December 14, 2019

Julie Ertz named U.S. Soccer’s Female Athlete of the year. Julie is married to former Stanford star and current Eagles TE Zach Ertz.
So when they do get around to having children assume the kids will be getting scholarship offers at birth.

NFL doesn’t play on Saturday until December 21. Shame. Because the Cincinnati Bengals, who face New England Patriots this Sunday, probably would do the best impression of an NCAA college team.

Seriously? NESN (New England Sports Network) headline – “Why History Is On Slumping Patriots’ Side In Matchup With Bengals”
Uh maybe because most 10-3 teams beat most 1-12 teams?

The New York Giants waived CB Janoris Jenkins on Friday, after on Wednesday he made an inappropriate remark to a fan on Twitter.
Let’s see, how long until Jenkins gets picked up by the Patriots? (Or Niners.)

USC officials acknowledged today that they received a notice of allegations from the NCAA regarding alleged violations in its men’s basketball program.
Gosh, this is serious. Could keep the Trojans out of the 2020 NIT tournament.

Just picked up some Ukrainian vodka. Supposed to be good stuff. But assume now it gets blamed for hangovers from drinking bad Russian Vodka.

Trump welcomed Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benítez for a visit to the White House this morning.
Serious question, anyone think Donald could find Paraguay on a map?

Boris Johnson “This election means that getting Brexit done is now the irrefutable, irresistible, unarguable decision of the British people.”
Or it means that people REALLY don’t like Jeremy Corbyn.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is trying to block Amendment4 which restored voting rights for 1.4 million Floridians with criminal convictions.
DeSantis does realize that without the amendment he’ll eventually be disenfranchising Donald Trump?

Donald Trump Jr. Tweeted “Today is Friday the 13th and the first day of Christmas. No partridges in pear trees this year–light your true love’s fire with Triggered.”
Uh, 2 things -First, “The Twelve Days of Christmas is a festive Christian season celebrating the Nativity of Jesus. “Christmas Day” is considered the “First Day of Christmas” and the Twelve Days are 25 December – 5 January, inclusive.” (not like Don pretends to be a Christian or anyway.)
Second. I’m sure what most women really want for Christmas is a copy of Triggered. That and a vacuum cleaner?

Mitch McConnell says the Senate impeachment trial will have “total coordination” with Trump.
Right, because doesn’t the defendant in a trial ALWAYS coordinate with the jury?

Streaks…

December 12, 2019

SNY Jets have lost their 4th game of 2019 by at least 20 points. Anyone know what the record is? It’s good to have goals.

Was about to post about San Antonio Spurs needing to make their damn free throws to help keep Gregg Popovich’s playoff streak alive… and then saw David Stern brain hemorrhage news. Ouch. It IS just a game.

Gym Jordan is trying so hard to protect Trump wonder if he thinks Donald used to be a college sports doctor?

Mike Huckabee is talking about Trump running again in 2024. Well, if SCOTUS does somehow overturn 22nd amendment, it might well be a landslide third term victory, for Barack Obama.

A Minnesota woman is suing after a pharmacist refused to fill her prescription for a morning after pill, citing religious beliefs. Well, I hope that pharmacist also refuses to fill ED prescriptions unless men show up with women they can prove are their wives.

Greta Thunberg’s views are more extreme than mine. But she has mad social media skills. After @realdonaldTrump tweeted “So ridiculous. Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Greta, Chill!”
@GretaThunberg changed her Twitter bio.
“A teenager working on her anger management problem. Currently chilling and watching a good old fashioned movie with a friend.”

Billionaire TV ad of the night “Mike Bloomberg’s never been afraid of tough fights.” Well, except the tough fight that would have required daily slog retail campaigning for most of the last year.

Leaving aside Matt Gaetz’s own DUI as he attacks Hunter Biden for cocaine use, would can we ask members of Congress, under oath, if THEY have ever used any illegal drugs?

Not a Jeremy Corbyn fan, but results tonight indicate Boris Johnson has probably won as Prime Minister, & will likely lose Wales, Scotland AND Northern Ireland from UK. Most of us Democrats in US may have to vote for 2nd or 3rd choice. But #VoteBlueNoMatterWho2020 It matters.

Trump says this is “impeachment light.” Uh, this is “impeachment light,” like Donald is 239 pounds.

House Judiciary Committee postponed a vote late Thursday on articles of impeachment against Trump. Well, and shouldn’t this of all votes happen on Friday the 13th?

The way the ping pong ball may bounce?

December 12, 2019

Who’d a thunk the Knicks and Warriors would be playing in December 2019 in a battle for both teams with lottery seeding implications?

University of Phoenix has agreed to a $191 million settlement, including $141 million in loan forgiveness, with FTC over deceptive advertising,
Gosh, to make up all that $$$ University of Phoenix will have to schedule a lot of football games against SEC teams.

Hey SF Giants, I  know it’s a rebuilding time, But, hey ,the stadium is paid off, and you could recapture a lot of goodwill from skeptical and disappointed fans JUST by keeping Madison Bumgarner. Signed, the Lunatic and not-so-Lunatic fringe. #ForeverGiant

WTF NY Times? “If the President continues his latest line of attack, Wray will have to decide how to lead the agency while his boss promulgates the inaccurate conclusion that the FBI plotted to sabotage Trump’s Presidential campaign in 2016.”
Uh, “promulgates the inaccurate conclusion?” How about simply “lies about the FBI?

The Oakland City Council President has floated the idea to use a cruise ship to house up to 1,000 of the city’s homeless population.     Many hurdles remain, including, would people prefer the streets to a Carnival Cruise ship?

From Cory Booker fundraising email. All other (non-billionaire) Democratic candidates so far in the Presidential primaries have spent less than $30 million on ads.
Tom Steyer has spent over $79 million on ads so far.
Michael Bloomberg has spent almost $100 million.

Yet another reason Democrats need to win Congress. Election finance reform.

So what price did Lindsey Graham get for his soul?

As upset as Trump was to lose “Person of the Year” to Greta Thunberg, imagine if he had lost to one of the other finalists… Nancy Pelosi.

DIANNE FEINSTEIN: Your investigation also uncovered text messages between FBI employees expressing support for Trump, correct?
HOROWITZ: Yes
FEINSTEIN: So FBI employees held personal political views that were both favorable & unfavorable toward the candidate at that time?
HOROWITZ. Correct

Women cut through the bullsh*t.

Rudy Giuliani has reached a divorce settlement with third wife, Judith Nathan. So guess what, ladies? He’s single.

New York $tate of Mind.

December 11, 2019

Gerrit Cole will be 39 by the end of his $324 million 9 year contract. But if he doesn’t live up to it I’m sure Yankees fans and the New York media will be warm and understanding.

Not that Brandon Crawford is doing badly but guessing his brother-in-law Gerrit Cole will be picking up dinner checks for a while.

Though have to wonder, was it worth that last $40-50 million the Yankees gave Cole to live through East Coast summers, and to shave?

Jets RB Le’Veon Bell, suffering from flu, was ruled too contagious to play last weekend, so he went…. bowling? Apparently the team will not discipline Bell as he didn’t actually break any rules. Maybe they should, however, check him for concussions? #cantfixstupid

(And wonder how other folks at the bowling alley are feeling? Literally.)
New England coach Bill Belichick on the latest Patriots’ videotaping incident – “We don’t knowingly, intentionally want to do anything that’s across the line.”
I like “I had no idea there was anything wrong with my balls” better.

Marc Ragovin  “With the firing of David Fizdale, the Central Park carousel is now completely populated with former NY Knicks coaches.”

thinking there’s got to be a clown car joke in here somewhere.
Maybe the way Democrats can get Americans outraged enough on a bipartisan basis to demand Mitch McConnell call a Senate vote is to point out that without Net Neutrality it will be harder to download free porn.

Maybe we’re thinking about this all wrong? Maybe the reason Trump needs to flush 10-15 times isn’t related to bodily functions but getting rid of records and notes. Too much paper clogs toilets too.

US Attorney General William Barr – “Justice Department is taking a closer look at decades-old laws that spare tech companies from being held liable for content posted by their users”
So can Americans sue Twitter for allowing Trump’s violence-inciting hate speech?

So it’s clearly time to move FBI director Christopher Wray up in Trump firing bingo.

GOP chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel is going after Adam Schiff “Why won’t he testify? What’s he hiding?”
Since GOP and Trump continue to complain about witnesses, might ask the same about Donald “Why won’t he testify. What’s he hiding?”

How the mighty have deflated.

December 10, 2019

Patriots acknowledged their production crew inappropriately filmed the field and sideline during Sunday’s game between the Bengals and Browns which they called “an unintended oversight.”
New England plays 1-12 Cincinnati next weekend.
When you need to cheat to beat the BENGALS? #Sad

Uh, yeah, I know football doesn’t appeal to our better angels in many ways. But to all those who have given me crap about the Saints because of bounty-gate. I give you 49ers announcer Greg Papa this morning on KNBR about Witherspoon’s personal foul on Jared Cook. “Turned out to be a great play for 49ers” because the Saints missed the 2 point conversion and it “knocked Cook out of the game.” Papa added, if Cook stayed in, he thought New Orleans would have won.
Thinking if they’re being honest a whole lot of teams/fans root for injuries.

Russia has been banned from 2020 Olympics over doping scandal.
Will Trump have the US pull out in solidarity?

Actually Russian athletes can compete, but under a neutral flag.  So they can win medals but won’t get to/have to listen to their national anthem if they win.  Which means maybe Trump can offer the winners dual citizenship?

Stephen Strasburg stays with Nats on $245M seven-year deal. $245 million? That’s almost enough for a month of Trump golf weekends.

One of the many problems with social media advertising is that the algorithms and/or AI don’t seem to have a “not NOW” filter.
Was reading up on the horrific volcano explosion in New Zealand and got an ad for White Island Tours “Experience NZ’s most active volcano with us.”  Ouch.

The latest parent charged with paying Rick Singer to cheat is pleading guilty to paying $9,000 to have someone take online classes for her son so he could graduate from Georgetown University.
Enough to make you long for the days when parents just built their kids’ elementary school science projects.

James Comey tweeted “FYI: I offered to go on Fox & Friends to answer all questions. I can’t change their viewers on Donald Trump but hoped to give them some actual facts about the FBI. They booked me for tomorrow at 8 am. They just cancelled. Must have read the report.”

The Democratic establishment is NOT perfect folks, I get it. But if you have any question about the alternative, watch GOP members of Congress in action during these impeachment hearings.

Where Dat Defense?

December 9, 2019

Well, at least Drew Brees is now back ahead of Tom Brady for career TD passes. But he and Saints would have traded that for a win today.

Seen this before but from a guy named Matt on Twitter. “When I die I want the Saints defense to lower me into my grave, so they can let me down one last time.”

Patriots lost today to Chiefs after two controversial calls went against New England. Reaction from 29 other teams in NFL “Thoughts and Prayers.”

As CFB playoffs are set, have to wonder, could any team from NFC East qualify?

Let’s see, Miss Universe 2019 is a black woman from South
Africa. And runners up were Puerto Rico and Mexico. Who restrained Trump from rant tweeting over the top three?

The alleged Pensacola shooter was one of 852 Saudi nationals in the U.S. for military training provided under a security cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia. He was also apparently tweeting anti-America statements in the days before the shooting.
Uh, is anyone checking social media posts of the other 851, those who weren’t also detained now in Florida after the shooting?-

Apparently Saudi Pensacola gunman visited New York City, including Rockefeller Center just days before the shooting. I’m sure he was just going for Christmas shopping….

Trump and White House have announced they will not “participate in that sham hearing of impeachment.   Wonder what GOP would have done if instead of testifying for 11 hours Hillary Clinton refused “to participate in that sham hearing” on Benghazi?

If Hunter Biden being on the board of a Ukrainian gas company was so egregious and part of a larger security threat to the US, why didn’t GOP investigate him when they  controlled both the House and Senate. For that matter, why didn’t they pass all the great legislation Trump and Republicans are now promising us when they controlled both the House and Senate?

Half an upset?

December 7, 2019

Whole lot of fans of two-loss teams right now thinking Badgers had them stay up late and got there College Football Playoff hopes up for nothing.

(21-7 Wisconsin over Ohio State at halftime,   34-21 Ohio State win.)

Your reminder that the 10-2 Oregon Ducks have no chance for the playoffs. (And I’m not an Oregon fan.) . Had they only, instead of opening against Auburn, done like Alabama and scheduled a powerhouse like Western Carolina.
Here’s a thought, how about if every team that gets into CFB Playoffs is required to schedule a new non-conference top 25 opponent within next 2-3 years. Yes, I’m talking to you SEC and ACC.
Not that the Tigers, 13-0 aren’t a good team.  Clemson, 13-0, had an easier path to the playoffs this year than any team not named the Dallas Cowboys.
Every time I see a Michael Bloomberg ad my first thought is of all the other useful thingss he could be doing  politically for the country with that money.
(state and local elections, voter registration, election security…)
You think you have a tough job, how’d you like to be writers at Saturday Night  who  spent  the  week   trying  to top Trump’s  “10-15  flushes” line.
Given Trump’s fixation on toilets anyone but me curious to hear what it’s like being the White House plumber?
If Trump were really losing money as President, he’d be having Fox and Friends doing regular nightly segments on his tax returns. Period.
Trump on Rudy’s Giuliani’s latest trip to the Ukraine, “He says he has a lot of good information…I hear he has found plenty.” What like, Obama’s birth certificate?
Maybe it’s just me but in the “if you see something say something” category I’d put mass shooting videos at a dinner party.
As White House reiterates Trump’s refusal to testify or anything else in impeachment hearings,  wonder what GOP would have done if instead of testifying for 11 hours Hillary Clinton refused “to participate in that sham hearing” on Benghazi?

And the winner isn’t….

December 6, 2019

Congrats to Oregon for winning the Pac 12 Championship. Wonder how many bouquets  the Ducks will get from Oklahoma, Georgia, Alabama, Baylor and any other team with fantasies of making CFB Playoffs.

Lane Kiffin reportedly about to become Old Miss football coach.  This would be Lane’s fifth head coaching job.  He is 44.

So what’s the record number of head coaching jobs?  Asking for a cynical friend.

Jerry Jones to radio hosts this morning who asked if the organization was embarrassed over Cowboys’ loss to the Bears. “Hey, get your damn act together.” Uh, maybe in Dallas it’s not radio guys who need to get their act together.

Just how bad is NFC East? The 3-9 Redskins could still win the division.

Adam Vinatieri may not kick for Colts again due to a knee injury. On a brighter note for Indy at least Adam’s medical bills should be covered by Medicare.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich on Knicks firing coach Fizdale “It’s ridiculous to think you’re gonna bring a young guy in and after being there a minute and a half, you expect him to fix everything that’s been wrong there for a long time. That’s pretty unfair. .. So, it’s the old analogy: he got thrown under the bus.”

To be fair, NY Knicks are really rivaling Trump for clogging the road under their buses.

0

WTAF? Nikki Haley just said that the Charleston mass shooter “hijacked” the Confederate flag,, what people in South Carolina viewed as a symbol of “service, and sacrifice and heritage.” Uh, Nikki, maybe for starters not the 27% of people in South Carolina who are black?

My mother had dementia the last years of her life. I heard regularly from people at her assisted living home that she was flushing toilet a lot. Mostly because she tried to flush her adult diapers. “People are flushing toilets 10 times, 15 times.” #toiletgate

Southwest flight attendant told woman wearing a hijab who switched seats to sit with her family, that she was making passengers “uncomfortable” and threatened to have her escorted off plane Presidential hate speech has consequences. #shameonSouthwest #ShameonTrump

Per CNN “A member of the Saudi military training at US Naval Air Station in Pensacola is the suspected shooter in today’s incident.” How long until Jared says his good pal MBS assures us it was a rogue operator and not a terrorist?

Evenly matched?

December 5, 2019

6-6 Cowboys, atop the NFC East tonight play the 6-6 Bears, who still have a chance for the playoffs. Can we call this the Mediocrity Bowl?

Johnny Manziel’s model wife Bre Tiesi has filed for divorce and is demanding spousal support after just 379 days of marriage.

Is she alleging she did give him the best year of her life?

First Trump and Kim Jong Un “fell in love.” Now they’re calling each other Rocket Man and Dotard again. It’s almost like one of Donald’s marriages.

Republican witness, Prof. Jonathan Turley, testifies: “A crime hasn’t occurred if the criminal doesn’t admit it.”

How many defense attorneys are going “why didn’t I think of that?”

Trump made comments about his daughter being fat, but sure let’s have GOP outrage because a law Professor used Barron’s name in a sentence.

Melania tweeted “A minor child deserves privacy and should be kept out of politics. Pamela Karlan, you should be ashamed of your very angry and obviously biased public pandering, and using a child to do it.” Did she tell Donald he should be ashamed of attacking Greta Thunberg?

I suppose I get it that a teenager might be embarrassed to have his name spoken in public for any reason. But on a 1-10 scale compared to knowing his father cheated on three wives and his mom did soft-core porn?

So when will John Barron weigh in on the Barron Trump fake outrage?

And must be getting old. I’ve forgotten all that GOP outrage over jokes about a young Chelsea Clinton.

Trump says in Senate, GOP “will have Schiff, the Bidens, Pelosi and many more testify, and will reveal, for the first time, how corrupt our system really is.” Uh, Donald, why won’t you let any of YOUR people testify.

Breaking news. Old white man endorses other old white man. #JohnKerry #JoeBiden

From #WSJ “Trump considering a significant expansion of U.S. military footprint in Middle East to counter Iran, including dozens more ships, other military hardware & as many as 14,000 additional troops, U.S. officials said.” Wait, you mean Donald lied about bringing troops home?

Comings and goings.

Zach Wheeler leaves Mets and signs with the Phillies. Would have been entertaining to have him play Carlos Beltran, the guy he was traded for…

Ron Rivera was fired as Panthers coach so will miss the rest of the season. Making him at this point maybe luckier than Carolina season ticket holders.

Eli Manning will probably start Monday night for NY Giants since rookie QB Daniel Jones has a “moderate high ankle sprain.  And who knows, maybe if he does well, Eli could lead the 2-10 team to catch the 3-9 Redskins for 3rd place in the NFC East.

Kamala Harris’s campaign was running out of money.

Well clearly if she were serious about becoming President she would have married a billionaire who could have funded that campaign.

The way we KNOW there is no clear front-runner for Democratic Presidential nomination – no one who has dropped out has endorsed anyone else.

Well, who’d have guessed that Trump, the guy on his third marriage, who’s cheated on every one of those wives, wouldn’t be able to sustain a bromance with Macron.

Lindsey Graham says he’s “1,000% confident” that Russia, not Ukraine, meddled in the 2016 election. Graham also said that censuring Trump might have have “bipartisan support.”
Too soon to start the pool on when Donald will throw Lindsey under the bus?

North Korea “The dialogue touted by the US is, in essence, nothing but a foolish trick hatched to keep the DPRK bound to dialogue and use it in favor of the political situation and election in the US.
“It is entirely up to the US what Christmas gift it will select to get.”
But wait, wait, I thought Trump and Kim Jong Un were “in love.

Donald is partly right. They aren’t laughing at us. They are laughing at potUS.

Think the only way we can get Gym Jordan to stop protecting Trump is if we tell him Donald was a wrestler in college.

Rolling out the tanks?

December 3, 2019

SF Giants nontender Kevin Pillar, who led team in HR, RBI, SB, etc, started almost every game, and won Willie Mac award as most inspirational player.
For first time I wondered tonight, Giants have a lot of us who bought charter seats when ballpark opened, have the rights to those seats for life pretty cheaply in retrospect. Wonder if they are hoping fans give up and they can resell at higher prices when team is decent and fun again?

On a brighter note for SF Giants season ticket holders with the team apparently embracing tanking in 2020. At least potential local single-game ticket buyers won’t have spent their yearly sports budget on Warriors tickets.

Snow was falling so hard during #Packers #Giants game that MetLife staff had to shovel the yard-lines during breaks. No wonder Green Bay won big. Aaron Rodgers and company must have thought it was a home game.

NBC can thank the Atlanta Falcons for no one turning off Sunday night football with Patriots down 21-3 late in the 3rd quarter.

Joe Sestak on Sunday dropped out of the 2020 Democratic Presidential race. Okay, forget supporters, how many people knew he was running?

(repeat same tweet almost for Steve Bullock.)

Something else about Michael Bloomberg. He said he wasn’t running. Now he says he thinks he has to run. The other candidates haven’t changed….is he saying he made a major mistake in evaluating them? And if so, how do we expect him to evaluate our foreign allies & enemies.

Trump seems so obsessed with Lisa Page you’d almost think he hit on her and she turned him down.

Trump’s lawyer Cipollone told Judiciary Committee they do “not intend to participate in your Wednesday hearing.” And accused Nadler of “no doubt purposely” scheduling hearing while Trump will be in London for NATO. Thinking if Donald actually would show up House would find a day and time.

So she’s had to deal with her second son’s major public f*ck up and now she has to host another event for Donald Trump. Sometimes it s*cks to be Queen.

GOP Rep Ben Cline compared Trump to Luke Skywalker “May the Farce be With You?”

Tucker Carlson tonight “I think we should probably take the side of Russia if we have to choose between Russia and Ukraine.” Well, duh, Ukraine isn’t paying him.

Outsiders.

Sweet.  Alabama will be Home for College Football playoffs.

And how long until Nick Saban argues for THREE SEC teams in those playoffs.

Amy Klobuchar is a  BIG Minnesota football fan. On a brighter note at least she won’t have to antagonize any West Coast Democrats by pulling for Golden Gophers in Rose Bowl.    (Thanks, Wisconsin.)

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is whining, again, that his team is being unfairly held to a different standard in the playoffs. And that standard has cost the Tigers so many potential national championships. Uh, wait, never mind.

A crazy college football thought, what if any team that received a bid into CFB Playoff  was REQUIRED as a condition of the bid to schedule a nonconference game as soon as possible with a power opponent?

Less than half of Americans eligible to vote voted in 2016.  So maybe if we gave the winning candidate “the final rose” would more people make the effort?

Meanwhile 53% of Republicans say Trump is a better President than Lincoln.  Of course have to wonder, how many of that 53% think Lincoln was a Democrat?

Trump and GOP solution to ACA is like fixing a leaky roof by tearing down the house.

Trump and USDA under Sonny Perdu wants to tighten work rules for SNAP program, claiming it will restore “the dignity of work.”   Right, because so many Americans say they WOULD go get good jobs, but they don’t want to give up their luxurious life with a little over $100 a person a month average in food stamps.

Another US shooting, tonight in New Orleans, with (so far at time of writing) 11 victims but no fatalities.  So just how long is it again until we can talk about gun control?

And when we talk about the MOST important US challenge, and we face so many challenges, climate change, healthcare, income inequality, education…. If we don’t have election security NONE of them will be addressed.

Ur-ine trouble now.

November 29, 2019

In Ole Miss-  Mississippi State “Egg Bowl” rivalry game,   an Ole Miss receiver caught a touchdown pass late in 4th quarter to pull the game to within 21-20.  He then got on his knees, lifted a leg, and pretended to urinate in the end-zone. The Rebels were given a 15 yard penalty and missed the potential game tying extra point.

What a pisser.

Cowboys Jerry Jones told reporters on coach Jason Garrett. “It would give us zero chance (for the Super Bowl) if we didn’t have him.”
As opposed to the zero chance Dallas has with him?

After Saints are done celebrating NFC South Championship think it is just possible Sean Payton may have some extra onside kick recovery practice.

(Falcons were down 31-18 and managed to recover  TWO,  actually three when one was reserved by a penalty, onside kicks in last four minutes of the game.)

At least 17 New England Patriots listed as questionable vs. Houston Texans Sunday, 10 with “flu-like” symptoms.

Well, this poses some interesting questions.  Primarily, so what kind of penalties will NFL refs have to call against the Texans to get Patriots a win THIS time?

Awful attack in London, but in this case, the bad guy with a knife, was really stopped by good guys without guns. Or any weapons.  Except their own courage.  (Then after civilians had taken down the attacking, British police ultimately fatally shot him.

And for all those saying it would have been different in the USA with armed bystanders. Yeah, probably several people whipping out guns and probably either shooting each other or MORE bystanders.

And this was the tweet from Larry the Cat, who lives at Downing Street.

·
Police officers, paramedics and members of the public made their way towards someone who was looking to do them harm, so that they could help others in need. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts and mourn those not going home tonight. #LondonBridge
Is there some way to vote in Larry as Prime Minister?
Fox’s Pete Hegseth: Hong Kong Protesters Look at Trump and ‘They See Rocky Balboa’ Uh, except that Donald practically had to be forced to sign the pro-democracy legislation. Facts have a liberal bias.

Turkeys and other daze

November 28, 2019
A Thanksgiving thought. Thank you all for being my readers, even if we don’t always agree on politics, or sports, I’m grateful to have you all as part of my life. And actually, in many ways I especially appreciate the people I can have civil disagreements with! We are increasingly in bubbles and I actually think it’s good for the future of our country to have friends across the aisle, or the field as it may be.
Speaking of  which “Geaux Saints”

ESPN reports that the Cowboys will not fire Jason Garrett during the season. Especially I suppose since Dallas can NEVER in 2019 beat a team with a winning record, and still win the NFC East at 9-7. (No joke.)

Good news for Bears fans,  Mitch Trubisky, despite some shaky moments and an interception, threw 3 TD passes to lead now 6-6 Chicago to a 24-20 win over the 3-8-1 Detroit Lions.

Bad news for Bears fans,  Mitch Trubisky, despite some shaky moments and an interception, threw 3 TD passes to lead now 6-6 Chicago  to a 24-20 win over the 3-8-1 Detroit Lions.

After saying he might veto the measure Trump just signed legislation supporting pro-democracy Hong Kong protesters. I guess someone explained to the stable genius that 417-1 in the House and unanimous in Senate just might be a veto-proof majority.

If you want something politically  to be thankful about think about Trump trying to throw Rudy under the bus. And also both how vindictive Giuliani is and how much dirt he knows.

So did Trump really decide to leave New York when Macy’s wouldn’t let him float down Central Park West in the parade?

Would it be churlish to suggest that maybe Trump really went to Afghanistan on Thanksgiving because Air Force One serves his favorite junk food and Melania would have insisted on turkey at Mar-A-Lago?
