Opening days and confused

February 25, 2024

MLB opening day in just over one month.

And still so many big-name free agents unsigned.

Maybe teams start selling jerseys with “player to be named later”?

Richard Sherman arrested for DUI, second time in less than three years, though he reached a plea deal after his 2021 arrest.

Uh, Sherman is a Stanford grad, supposedly a smart guy, has

lots of money. Nothing against drinking but why do these guys never think of hiring a driver. Or Lyft/Uber.

AT&T is apologizing to customers and ‘making it right’ with $5 credit to customers after last week’s hours-long outage. Five whole dollars. “Siri, give me an example of adding insult to injury.”

Lindsey Graham, May 2016 “If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed, and we will deserve it. Feb 2024 “Prominent South Carolina supporters such as Lindsey Graham circulating among reporters at increasingly loud Trump watch party” Hope John McCain haunts Lindsey’s dreams.

Many in GOP now saying they support IVF, popular with wealthy white people. So can some reporter ask them about “selective reduction?” It’s a medical procedure to abort some fetuses if IVF results in too many “successful” pregancies. Tough but often necessary CHOICE for women.

Beto O’Rourke, on book tour, decides to push Democrats to vote “uncommitted” in Michigan primary. It makes national headlines.

Amy Klobuchar & Debbie Stabenow, both in Senate Leadership, have been jn Michigan together to support & campaign for President Biden.

Crickets from national media.

MSM talks about huge win for Trump when Nikki Haley got 40% of votes in South Carolina.

Meanwhile, crickets on 96% President Biden got in South Carolina, while media still loves to talk about Dean Phillips, who got 1.7%, fewer than Marianne Williamson who suspended her campaign.

Nikki Haley, 52, & apparently sane, genuflected before Donald Trump during most of GOP primary season, only turning against him – and even then on style points – just before South Carolina,

And it didn’t work. It’s. A. Cult.

Didn’t work with Amy Klobuchar Didn’t work with Gavin Newsom So just how many Democrats is Kristen Welker going to have on Meet the Press in hopes of finding one who will say something negative about President Biden?

Not that into them

February 7, 2024

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman says the currently Oakland A’s stadium plan “does not make sense” and that A’s ownership should go back to the drawing board and pitch a new plan in the Bay Area.

When even a town that loves its sports franchises, Golden Knights, Raiders, Aces, doesn’t want John Fisher’s team…

Not that we need an excuse. But hey, sports fans, looking for an reason to skip yet another Super Bowl Pregame show? Caitlin Clark might break the women’s basketball all time scoring record Sunday against Nebraska.

Chris Christie on why he won’t endorse Nikki Haley: “Because she’s not running against Donald Trump.” Nailed it. For all his crimes, the only thing Nikki criticizes Trump on is his age.

Dean Phillips claims the primary is rigged. Nikki Haley is claiming the primary is rigged. At least Bernie Sanders has redeeming qualities along with his wine/whine.

“None of these candidates” included mediocre millionaire from MN who continues his vanity campaign. President Biden got 89.6 to their 5.7%

So media, again, if you want to talk to someone from Minnesota, make it Amy Klobuchar. Or Tina Smith or Tim Walz. They all support Joe.

As GOP in George Santos’s district run stealth candidate, an attractive Jewish woman of color, they don’t want voters to know: She is anti-choice She won’t criticize Trump. She would support MAGA Mike in whatever votes he wants. If you know anyone in #NY3, please tell them.

Shout it from the rooftops Sen.Chris Murphy: “We worked 4 months on this bill… I guess it’s the negotiators’ fault. we reached a compromise that would actually fix the problem. But it turns out Republicans don’t want to fix the problem.”

Bill Clinton got re-elected. Democrats in Congress didn’t genuflect before him.

Barack Obama got re-elected. Democrats in Congress didn’t genuflect before him.

Donald Trump LOST re-election & faces multiple indictments. GOP in Congress genuflects before him. Make it make sense.

For the non-political junkies out there. Ken Buck is VERY conservative. Tom McClintock is VERY conservative. They just appear, like Liz Cheney, to have some scruples. Which in today’s GOP makes them unicorns.

Feb. 2021, McConnell said Trump was “morally responsible” for Jan. 6 attack on U.S. Capitol. If Mitch had only voted to convict Donald at his 2nd impeachment trial, USA, INCLUDING the GOP, would be so much better off now. And today we’d have Ukraine Aid/border bill. #Coward

GOP – “Back the blue!” GOP after January 6, “Unless Trump gets Capitol police killed.

GOP “Pro-life” GOP – “Unless it’s migrant women & children, or pregnant women.

GOP – “Support the Border Patrol.” GOP now “Unless Trump doesn’t want the border fixed.”

See a pattern?

Not that it will happen but have long wished Kyle Rittenhouse’s mother was tried as well as Jennifer Crumbley….

And yes, the Oxford High School shooter’s mom’s name is making headlines, but let’s not forget THESE names: Madiyson Baldwin, 17; Tate Myre, 16; Justin Shilling, 17; and Hana St. Juliana, 14. The victims should be remembered more than those responsible for their deaths.

How many Senators spent how many hours on negotiating bill GOP said they wanted?

And how many staffers gave up nights & weekends to get it done.

Only for GOP to turn around & say, “Just kidding.”

Why should ANY American trust anything any Republican politician says ever again.

Are you ready for some not football?

February 5, 2024

Top ESPN headline “NFC clinches back-to-back Pro Bowl Games wins with clutch fourth-and-goal stop.”

And if you seriously knew that or cared about the game, you might need a hobby.

As we start a week of stories about suites at the Super Bowl costing over a million dollars, your reminder that Republicans think billionaires still need more tax cuts.

The Big Ten and SEC conferences announced they have formed a joint advisory group of university presidents, chancellors and athletic directors to “address the significant challenges facing college athletics” and how to improve the student-athlete experience.

Translation: How can we make it all just about us and our “student-athletes” and make the other conference grovel for scraps?

Believe that both Netanyahu & Hamas are evil. But as protesters demanding cease-fire disrupt & shut down many Dem events, why aren’t they going after GOP?

Mike Johnson “House won’t rush to pass Senate border-foreign aid deal but will take up stand-alone bill for aid to Israel.”

Why does it matter Dean Phillips stays in race, since he has no chance? Because national media LOVES to put mic in front of this mediocre Minnesota rich man to bash Biden.

Whereas plenty of other good Democrats would gladly use that time to tell reporters about Biden’s accomplishments.

Hey JD Vance. Remember this? “I do solemnly swear that I will support & defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign & domestic; that I will bear true faith & allegiance to the same.”

How many younger people are watching the Grammys, hearing the category “Record of the Year,” and asking “what’s a record?”

Don’t always watch the Grammys as there are so many acts I’ve never heard of and the show makes me feel old. Fortunately tonight was an exception. Trevor Noah AND that Tracy Chapman / Luke Combs duet right up front made it worth tuning in. Not to mention Joni Mitchell.

Mike Johnson on Meet the Press attacked Biden administration for “projecting weakness on world stage.” What about weakness of no longer supporting Ukraine?

And weakness of taking back the promises to Afghans who helped Americans.

And weakness holding up military appointments for politics.

Clean up your own House, MAGA Mike

We already knew Marianne Williamson’s a narcissist who loves attention.

Dean Phillips at least pretended to be serious politician, albeit not particularly effective. He’s under 2% in S. Carolina. What will it take for Phillips to learn – Dems are not at ALL into him?

Scarlett O’Hara in the end on Ashley Wilkes “I loved something I made up, I made a pretty suit of clothes and fell in love with it.” This is what the national media is doing with Nikki Haley.

Nikki Haley got a nice puff piece moment on SNL, but the Bear’s Ayo Edeberi won the cold open: “I was just curious, what would you say was the main cause of the Civil War, um, and do you think it starts with an ‘s’ and ends with a ‘lavery?’ ”

Hey SNL, if you had to give Nikki Haley a spot, why not do same for Democratic politicians. Amy Klobuchar can be seriously funny. Pete Buttigieg has great comic timing as well. Heck, invite Amy & Pete on together. Enough people remember 2020 primaries it would be must-see TV.

Standing by her man

January 25, 2024

Approaching another NFL playoff weekend where Taylor Swift will get all sorts of hate for coverage media gives her supporting her boyfriend…

First, she’s not asking for coverage.

Second, imagine if she stayed home? Then haters would complain she didn’t really care about Kelce.

So are some of these remaining star MLB free agents going to sign with a team by Spring Training? Or are they still hoping for an offer from the NL All-Star Dodgers?

After winning the national championship with Michigan, Jim Harbaugh is leaving to be head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. Now the question, with their coach gone, will the Wolverines still end up on probation or face a bowl ban?

Give me a break on claim he’ll blacklist Nikki Haley donors. Somehow Trump got hold of our company e-mail list & I get about half dozen fundraising emails from him a DAY on my work email. He’ll take money from anyone. Hell, Velveeta Voldemort will beg for money from anyone.

Mitch McConnell saying GOP won’t make deals on immigration, or maybe ANYTHING important because Trump tells them not to. Democrats should be running this in ads nonstop. Americans deserve leaders who govern, not those who refuse to do their jobs for fear of their loser leader.

Trump pressuring Senate GOP to reject ANY immigration deal: “If someone’s running for Pres. & trying to undermine governance, that’s bad,” LA Sen.Bill Cassidy, who is hardly a liberal:

Cassidy adds “Trying to defeat legislation, all in name of running for office? That’s irresponsible.”

Why is Bill a lone voice in GOP?

Two smaller Washington Post headlines Wednesday:

– “Obamacare enrollment hits record level as Trump vows repeal.”

“Biden endorsed by United Auto Workers, shoring up union vote in automaking swing states.” Both BFD.

And yet both are below stories about Trump & Haley. #DoBetterMedia

Another Washington Post headline – “Republican primary is over. Get ready for long, grim rematch.” Uh, Biden won pretty easily as New Hampshire write-in candidate.

Even w/ some liberals voting for Haley against Trump. Seems like Dems aren’t grim about Joe running for re-election at all.

Bridget Ziegler, whose husband resigned as GOP chair after revelations about their 3-way sexual encounter, returned to DeSantis’s Disney Oversight board Imagining her now: ”Don’t want movies my children watch while I’m having sex w/ another woman to indicate being LGTBQ is ok.”

Jon Stewart is returning to the Daily Show on Mondays only through the 2024 elections. Between Jon and Rachel Maddow think it’s now time for #TGIM – Thank God It’s Monday!

Nothing personal but at this point I don’t give a flying fig newton who Susan Collins endorses in 2024.

Dean Phillips tweeted.

“A little known Congressman from Minnesota built a scrappy campaign with a passionate team just 10 weeks ago, and tonight earned 21% against an incumbent President with a 50 year head-start and the full force of a party behind him.”

Spare me. Little known member of Congress from Minnesota who did something that MATTERED in New Hampshire was Amy Klobuchar in 2020. Amy became a top Biden surrogate on campaign trail & powerful accomplished ally in Senate Dean, for all recent media attention you’ve done nothing!

Winners and losers

Stanford’s Tara VanDerveer earns 1,202nd victory to tie Mike Krzyzewski’s record

This should be a bigger story. Hoping it will be when Tara breaks the record.

WTF ESPN? This headline “Iowa’s Clark- fan collide after Ohio States upset win.”

Uh, Ohio State fans stormed the court after their upset win and one of them crashed into Caitlin Clark, knocking her to the ground in pain. Fortunately she says she’s not injured but it was “kind of scary.”

I know women’s college basketball gets short shift to the men’s game on many things, but security shouldn’t be one of them.

(and hey, I get storming the court in excitement, but players should have been able to leave the court first.)

Ron Deathsantis has suspended his campaign and endorsed Donald Trump

” Uh, the primaries aren’t close to over. Shouldn’t Ron be forced to take his campaign to term?

Asked if she would vow not to be Trump’s VP, Nikki Haley said yesterday being vice president is “off the table.” “Off the table” isn’t “Yes.”

And “I don’t want to be anyone’s vice president.” Of course if he asks she’ll say she didn’t want it but will do for good of country.

Tim Scott and Nikki Haley still want to take all our rights away. They just would do it with a nice smile.

Ron DeSantis now saying that Trump voters in Iowa had told him they would support him in four years. ‘They were coming up to me saying, “We want you in 2028, we love you, man,” Big strong men with tears in their eyes?

Give whoever runs Joe Biden’s twitter account a raise.

This Tweet today “I don’t agree with Nikki Haley on everything, but we agree on this much: She is not Nancy Pelosi.”

Wow while rambling about January 6th, a confused Trump repeatedly blamed Nikki Haley for January 6th and says Halely (not Nancy Pelosi) was in charge of security for the Capitol.

President Biden was a childhood stutterer and has made verbal gaffes since he was a young man. He usually, however, corrects himse. But imagine if Joe Biden had said something half as insane about January 6.·

Trump loves to praise January 6 insurrectionists as “peaceful protesters.

But Donald kicked a man who called him a dictator out of his rally last night & would have had him locked up if he could. Velveeta Voldemort might be thinnest skinned man US has ever had in White House

Apparently Vladimir Putin now is questioning whether Russia should take back Alaska? Lisa Murkowski has a backbone, Dan Sullivan maybe. Would like to see either of them asked about this. And if they endorse Putin’s puppet?

Three years ago this weekend, Inauguration morning. Ready for repeat in 2025. Except Deb Fischeras new ranking member of the Senate Rules committee, will be walking next to Amy Klobuchar up the Capitol steps.

(And another call out to retired Senator Roy Blunt. Many Republicans would not have been so gracious in helping Biden’s inauguration happen. There were serious doubts between COVID and after January 6 as to whether it could happen publicly.)

Forget the controversial CFB Playoff this season. We have a clear (and sweet) bowl winner.

So when Kansas State got that last touchdown to go ahead nine with less than three minutes to go did a Pop Tarts Bowl announcer say that North Carolina State was toasted? #PopTartsBowl

Okay, who had Rutgers being the only New York City area football team not only in the postseason but also with a win? Now all you liars put your hands down. #PinstripeBowl

Okay, who’s going to write the headline? “Nikki Haley’s candidacy, Gone with the Wind.”

Why are we surprised Nikki Haley responded: ““What do you want me to say about slavery?” Her entire weathervane campaign is “What do you want me to say about everything?”

But seriously, running for President is exhausting & hard. Even great candidates can forget names & have verbal stumbles, often with no chance to recover.

Which makes Nikki Haley’s slavery statements so awful. She got 2nd chance, then 3rd. And just made it worse.

When someone tells you who they are….

Senator Tom Cotton actually tweeted today “Civil War started because Americans elected anti-slavery Republican & Democrats revolted…” In 2020 he called slavery “necessary evil upon which the union was built.” He’s a Harvard grad. Cotton is not stupid, but he thinks voters are.

Some said if pro-Palestine protesters really WANTED to lose sympathy of New Yorkers they couldn’t have done much more than make it impossible for travelers & workers to get to JFK Airport after Christmas. And today they block entrance & exits to the World Trade Center Memorial..

Amateur hour.

November 23, 2016

The SF 49ers, embroiled in a financial battle over stadium management with Santa Clara, have now slammed the city’s “‘disturbing trend of frivolous actions”
Uh, doesn’t “disturbing trend of frivolous actions” basically sum up the 49ers’ recent coaching decisions and draft picks?

Jill Stein is raising money for a recount in MI, WI & PA. Of course if Stein had really cared about the election she could have just not run.

RIP #Ralphbranca. So somewhere in heaven is #BobbyThomson smiling while he takes batting practice? #Dodgers #Giants

San Antonio @Spurs won again by 5, tonight against Hornets. Will #Popovich just send out a video of last night’s rant and say “ditto?”

Wendell Carter, a power forward considered the top uncommitted recruit for 2017, says he is going to Duke. These are tough decisions for these young men, deciding where to spend several months of their lives.

At this point aren’t all the warnings about the Samsung One Note 7 smart phones just a suggestion for potential terrorists on how to catch a plane on fire?

Trump has decided “the law’s totally on my side, the president can’t have a conflict of interest.” So while the Donald accused Hillary Clinton of “pay-to-play” with her foundation, he’s going to take care of things by getting richer and richer while IN the White House.

In California, as of today an estimated 1,797,333 unprocessed ballots remained in California from the Nov. 8 election. Wow. If only we had some creative high-tech talent in the state to work on a faster solution.

Carnival pulling the plug on their new “Fathom” volunteer-work oriented cruise line, which was designed for an “under-served market of consumers who want to have a positive impact on people’s lives”
Turns out the positive impact most cruise passengers really want on vacation is more about tipping waiters who bring them beer and umbrella drinks

Well, to be fair #BenCarson is probably as qualified to be Secretary of HUD as Donald Trump is to be President of the United States.

In March, Donald Trump tweeted “The people of South Carolina are embarrassed by Nikki Haley!” Today he appointed Haley Ambassador to the UN. Does this mean the Donald has changed his mind. Or is he showing us what he thinks of the UN?

#BetsyDeVos for Education secretary. Guess it makes #Trump sense, put someone in charge who doesn’t believe in public schools….

The NEA teacher’s union estimates that 1/3 of their members voted for Trump. And now the Donald has put a voucher advocate who hates public schools as head of the Dept. of Education.
Mean bitch karma is clearly bipartisan.

Since no one else seems to be able to stop the Warriors,   Sports Illustrated will take a shot at it by putting Golden State on the cover.

Miley Cyrus called Donald Trump a ‘nightmare” and says she may move out of the country if he gets elected. Uh oh. Let’s hope Justin Bieber or the Kardashians don’t get the same idea or Trump could become unstoppable.

Donald Trump’s tweet, after Nikki Haley endorsed Marco Rubio – “The people of South Carolina are embarrassed by Nikki Haley,” Haley’s response “Bless your heart.”
For the uninitiated, “Bless your heart,” is Southern for “f*ck you.”

Sports Authority has filed for bankruptcy. So will the Denver Broncos now play in Chapter 11 Stadium?

(my friend Rick D. suggests ‘Secured Creditors Field.”)

As we approach March Madness, Stanford’s men’s basketball team has been doing better of late. Are they poised to defend their NIT title?

Donald Trump started with stupid and childish insults about Marco Rubio, who fired back on the same level, but it’s just Rubio who seems to be taking a it in the polls. George Bernard Shaw was right – “I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it.”

Ben Carson says he will skip the next GOP debate. Shocking people who didn’t even realize he was in the last one.

Ben Carson now admits he has “no path” to the Republican nomination, but won’t formally quit the Presidential race. “Attaboy” said Brett Favre.

So when can we tune in to hear ‪#‎SteveHarvey‬ talk about ‪#‎MarcoRubio‬‘s great ‪#‎SuperTuesday‬ victories?

#‎PaulRyan‬ says “absolutely no interest” in becoming ‪#‎GOP‬ nominee at a brokered convention. But he had no interest in being Speaker either.

Mitt Romney says he will speak Thursday “on the state of the Presidential Race.” Well, and if anyone should be an expert on how the GOP establishment can blow an election campaign….

Hard to believe now but some once thought the most politically damaging bromance involving Chris Christie was his 2012 embrace of Barack Obama.

In South Carolina, a woman who had taught for 13 years had her phone swiped by a 16-year-old-student, who found a nude Valentine’s Day picture she had taken for her husband, The kid then shared the photo with social media and texts. And the TEACHER was offered the choice to resign or go through a dismissal process. Hmm, maybe it is time for teachers to be armed

The Oklahoma City Thunder blew a 17 pt lead against the Clippers in the 4th quarter. Last time fans in Los Angeles saw such a fast late meltdown,  the Dodgers bullpen was involved.

A Washington  man who’d been taking selfies all day with his gun accidentally finally ended up fatally shooting himself.  Your move, Florida. #cantfixstupidbutyoucanburyit

Curt Schilling just said that Hillary Clinton should be “buried under a jail somewhere” over her emails on private servers. Right, wonder what he would have said had Clinton been sued by a state for fraud over a $75 million business loan guarantee that ended up costing said state almost $100 million….

Groaner of the day from Marc Ragovin “The Mets’ Noah Syndergaard and Yoenis Cespedes rode around the team’s training complex the other day on two horses from Cespedes’ s ranch. Proving that these two have come a long way from their days in the Pony League.”
