Going going gone?

April 6, 2022

With five days left in regular season, the San Antonio Spurs with their third straight win, have clinched a play-in and eliminated the Los Angeles Lakers. No punchline, I just like writing this. #PorVida

And let’s see, most people if asked to name a member of the Lakers, would come up with at least a few of Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Russell Westbrook , Dwight Howard , Anthony Davis.

Wonder how many people can name ANYONE on the Spurs?

(Coach Pop doesn’t count.)

To stop sign-stealing, MLB will start allowing electronic devices for catchers to signal pitches – type & location — directly to the pitcher. If we get this high-tech why can’t MLB stop umpires sometimes drastically changing games & allow robot umps to call balls & strikes?

Texas Republican Senator Cornyn talks about “simply calling balls and strikes,” that judges should be umpires, judges should not be players…”

Uh, except as baseball fans know, umpires can & have changed the outcome of games. The Texas Senator is just fine if judges call things so HIS side wins.

So some conservatives are upset Stacey Abrams’s made money because she wrote a political thriller novel that became NY Times bestselling book.

Missed GOP outrage over many sitting on explosive information about COVID or knowledge President committed treason to sell THEIR books.

One GOP lie against Ketanji Brown Jackson is her denial of a “judicial philosophy.”

And there is this quote of hers: “I have said don’t have an overarching judicial philosophy.”

Oh wait, not KBJ. That was Amy Klobuchar yesterday quoting Chief Justice John Roberts in HIS confirmation hearing.

Thinking hiring issues & accordingly higher prices are just American issues and Biden’s fault? The Shelbourne, one of my favorite luxury Dublin hotels, is now looking at renting private homes, taking students from colleges/hotel schools, & giving them a place to live if they’ll work at least 9 months.

Oklahoma is basically outawing abortion. So when is the state going to go after the people really responsible for the most abortions? Men who have unprotected sex with women

Barack Obama returned to the White House to be present for Joe Biden’s signing Executive Orders on healthcare…

Talking about the current White House, President Obama acknowledges “There have been some changes… there’s a cat running around.” Barack gets the important stuff.

Jamie Raskin says that Ivanka Trump was a “cooperative witness” before the January 6 committee. How long until Velveeta Voldemort says she was just his “covfefe” daughter?

While GOP Senators keep bringing up Brett Kavanaugh hearings as an excuse for their attacks on Ketanji Brown Jackson, a reminder: Christine Blasey Ford passed a polygraph test.

While he doesn’t name the cult by name, Dick Durbin correctly and subtly points out that Josh Hawley is trying to score points with Q-Anon over pedophila accusations. GQP

Even Republican voters love Obamacare now. But let’s have a moment for these 8 brave Senators, two of who have passed away.

All voted for ACA, & lost to GOP opponents:

Mark Begich, AK Mark Pryor, AR. Mark Udall, CO. Kay Hagan, NC. Mary Landrieu, LA. Russ Feingold, WI. Blanche Lincoln, AR. Arlen Specter, PA.

Foul times

April 4, 2022

There are relationships that don’t last as long as the last two minutes of a close college basketball game.

Kevin Durant is blaming his knee injury for Brooklyn Nets’ problems this year “There wasn’t a lot of continuity with me and Kyrie out of the lineup.” Gosh, if Irving only had had a “shot” at playing.

Sad and hard to believe it was 54 years ago tonight, April 4, 1968 that MLK Jr. was shot in Memphis. And it was even reported as I remember (I was 9) on the CBS News with Walter Cronkite. Back when “Breaking News” was actual breaking news.

Lisa Murkowski, up for re-election, will vote “yes” for Ketanji Brown Jackson. She said decision partly rests “on my rejection of corrosive politicization of review process for Supreme Court nominees.” Well, if Lisa wants to become an independent, I for one would welcome her.

And Sinema and Manchin are no drama “Yes” votes for Ketanji Brown Jackson. Nice change, isn’t it?

If only GOP Senators who are so outraged over Putin’s war crimes were half as outraged when Velveeta Voldemort tried to extort Ukraine for political gain.

Chuck Schumer reminding Americans today that Exxon and other oil companies are reporting record profits and stock buybacks. For all that media loves to report on high prices, why aren’t they headlining THIS story?

Marsha Blackburn is soft-spoken and looks like a former homecoming queen. But the more I listen to her, the more I think “Ted Cruz in a skirt.”

Sen. Alex Padilla made it to Senate Judiciary Committee, about 6 1/2 hours late after his redeye flight was delayed due to weather & medical emergency for another passenger. He had taken the last flight of the night from Los Angeles.

Now, it worked out and he was able to vote for send Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination out of committee. But travel agent PSA – if CRITICAL you be somewhere for wedding, meeting, SCOTUS confirmation…., consider flying in day before.

And then there were two

Congratulations to South Carolina women’s basketball team, for a wire to wire win over U Conn today for the NCAA women’s national championship.

(Since Senators often come to the floor to praise winning teams from their state, can the Gamecocks at least ask that if they can’t get someone from another state to fill it, it at least be Tim Scott and not Lindsey Graham?)

In Coach K’s final game for Duke against UNC, his team lost 81-77. And free throw stats. UNC 17-24 Duke 12-20 Blue Devils may have all the NBA talent -but had they just shot the same % as UNC at free throw line, we’d be talking about a Duke-Kansas final.

So I didn’t watch Velveeta Voldemort Vanity rally Saturday night in a Detroit suburb. But apparently the Detroit Lions for this year at least will no longer be the most embarrassing thing in Michigan.

You really wonder with these retiring Republicans. What are they hoping to gain by their slavish devotion to Mitch McConnell and the party line? Or what are they afraid of. Or both.

So is Roy Blunt, who says he doesn’t think Ketanji Brown Jackson is worthy of a lifetime appointment, saying he would have voted against Clarence Thomas too?

So is Florida GOP going to demand a boycott of the Wizard of Oz next? After all the movie theme is “Over the Rainbow.” #SayGay

If the media is going to give headlines to what a party’s former Presidential candidate says, that candidate should be Hillary Clinton.

Thank SNL tonight for having a skit including Ginni Thomas’s texts, and another mentioning Marsha Blackburn’s ridiculous & mean “What is a woman?” questioning of Ketanji Brown Jackson. At least a comedy show knows there are more important things in the world now than that slap.

While SNL last night DID cover Ginni Thomas text story and GOP attacks on Ketanji Brown Jackson, Fox News headlines today only mention the show’s addressing “the slap.” Because heaven forbid their viewers hear about any real news, even done as satire.

So how many people are only gonna pay attention to the Grammys if somebody slaps somebody?

I am so old I remember thinking Jim Jones was the worst American cult leader in my lifetime. #TrumpRally

Today’s GOP will go to the mat to defend rights of a florist who decides they can’t possibly arrange flowers for a gay wedding but they will also fight a multibillion dollar corporation (that contributes hugely to a state’s economy) who decides THEY have the right to make a pro-gay business decision.

Tree-ed off?

Great season for Stanford women’s basketball. – But what an ugly way to end the season with their 63-58 loss Friday night to U Conn. 9 points in the 1st quarter, 11 in the 3rd. when you start out 2 of 18 from the three point line… “Not with a bang but a brick.”

Stanford and UConn are two great women’s teams. But their Final Four basketball matchup was at 930p Eastern time tonight?? Way to grow the game ESPN. #MarchMadness

(OTOH, the way both teams played, maybe not the best game to attract new viewers to women’s basketball…)

Five games to go in the NBA season and who had the San Antonio Spurs with a one-game lead (and the tie-breaker) over the Los Angeles Lakers for the 10th and final play-in game postseason spot? And yeah, all you liars put your hands down.

Leave it to Stephen Colbert to sum up CBS News’ hiring of Mick Mulvaney: “Why would the Tiffany Network’s venerable news division put this craven toady to a tyrant on their payroll?”

If Walter Cronkite weren’t dead this would have killed him.

(Although Colbert may have become the closest thing to Cronkite’s heir. No joke.)

Fox News hired Caitlyn Jenner as a contributor. So now can parents sue saying it’s inappropriate if a Fox News viewing teacher in a Florida school comments on any of Caitlyn’s Fox News appearances?

WTAF? Some conservatives are trying to troll Rob Reiner with the nickname “Meathead” from when he played Archie Bunker’s son-in-law.

Uh, “All In the Family” was a sitcom from the 1970s! That’s so long ago the GOP was a legitimate political party.

(And a party that believed in impeaching a President who committed crimes.)

Thinking for amount the time most networks have spent covering that slap they could have screened Best Picture #CODA for their viewers several times over.

As if the thought of Sarah Palin running for Congress isn’t bad enough, imagine how much worse the congresswomen from Georgia and Colorado will feel like they have to behave to keep getting headlines.

Even conservative UK Daily Mail on bill to cap insulin prices at $35 a month- which needs 60 votes in Senate “The Affordable Insulin Now Act will force Republicans who oppose it into uncomfortable votes ahead of midterms.” Or GOP could just do right thing & vote for the bill!
