Former U.S. NATO representative Ivo Daalde responded to Trump’s tweets about Germany needing to pay more money “Sorry, Mr President, that’s not how NATO works. Adding “The US decides for itself how much it contributes to defending NATO. This is not a financial transaction, where NATO countries pay the US to defend them. It is part of our treaty commitment.”
“Sorry, Mr. President, that’s not how NATO works.” Substitute any other word for NATO and you’ve basically got a description of the last two months.
