Same time next year.

February 12, 2024

Super Bowl LIX is Sunday, February 9, 2025 in New Orleans.

What time this monday does the pre-game show start?

So how long before House GOP at Donald Trump’s urging. decide to launch a Congressional investigation into how Biden helped rig the Super Bowl for Taylor Swift’s boyfriend?

And now the real important question of the night. Did the Super Bowl go so long that Taylor Swift might be late for her next concert?

While it was great to see vaccinated Travis Kelce win a Super Bowl while unvaccinated Aaron Rodgers didn’t get past the first game of the season, how much is the cost of that Pfizer Super Bowl commercial going to raise US pharmaceutical prices?

A Robert Kennedy Super Bowl commercial?! What, did RFK Jr get tired of Dean Phillips getting all the less-than-mediocre white man attention?

Though seriously, as a political kid who was an RFK fan in 3rd grade, the more I think about it, the more his son’s commercial ripping off JFK’s ad makes me.

Since we could bet on everything at this Super Bowl anyone know what was the over-under on number of Trump supporters who would turn off the game during the black National Anthem?

Well Caitlin Clark had an “off-day” with only 31 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds and Nebraska had an amazing 4th quarter comeback to upset Iowa. So Clark is 8 points short of the all time record. But wonder what ticket prices will be for Michigan-Iowa women’s basketball game Thursday night.

Non political question of the night: Does the average American consume more calories on Thanksgiving or Super Bowl Sunday?

In the political good news department, this should be a bigger headline. -GOP senators defy Trump by advancing foreign aid bill

18 GOP Senators are less in thrall to Velveeta Voldemort than the US media seems to be.

Josh Hawley, who is not a fan of Mitch McConnell: “Who has more influence? Probably Trump. I mean, he’s the future.” Whatever people think about Donald, even those planning to vote for him in Nov., hard to imagine an out-of-shape overweight 77-yr old man as the “future.”

Elderly man with poor memory attacks Nikki Haley over her husband not campaigning with her: “Where’s her husband? Oh, he’s away. … What happened to her husband? Where is he? He’s gone.”

Michael Haley is with National Guard & deployed in Africa. But guess Trump forgot.

Tommy Tuberville not only handicapped our military with his months-long stunt, he’s now actually tweeting defending Putin. Alabama, you could have kept Doug Jones. Heck, Alabama, you could have kept Jeff Sessions… (who actually looks good now by comparison.

Trump threatens to ‘encourage’ attack of NATO members behind on “payments.”

“Nice little NATO alliance you have here, would be a shame if something happened to it.” Why isn’t this a bigger story?

I support President Biden. But if he had decided not to run in 2024, and appointed VP Harris as his successor. does anyone think we wouldn’t be hearing nonstop negative stories on her? Or ANY other person Joe endorsed? Media misses Trump. It’s that simple.

Slip sliding away…

So did that extra month of rest Roger Goodell gave Tom Brady this year make a difference down the stretch of #SB51?

In the 4th quarter Brady and the Patriots went through Atlanta faster than anyone not named Sherman.

At least @warriors fans can rest easy knowing their team will no longer win the ESPY for greatest postseason choke job in the last year.

But really, what’s with these collapses, the Warriors, the Indians, the Falcons.  At this point maybe we should all plan to bet on whoever goes down 3-0 in this year’s Stanley Cup Finals.

You’d think after watching Pete Carroll that the Falcons would have learned the lesson, when you’ve got the game won late, run the damn ball.

Wonder how long it took Matt Ryan to realize that a couple V for Victory formations and a field goal would have iced this game? #Superbowl

Avocados from Mexico commercial. Waiting for the Trump rebuttal.

But where were the Clydesdales tonight?  I blame Trump

Cant wait for Sean Spicer  to congratulate the Patriots tomorrow on the largest margin of victory in Super Bowl history.

Really? Trump’s latest tweet “Just cannot believe a judge would put our country in such peril. If something happens blame him and court system. People pouring in. Bad!”
So who do we blame for Quebec City, (yes, I know that’s Canada) Charleston, Aurora? And the other over 12,000 Americans killed last year by gun violence?

VP Pence said today White House considering removing sanctions against Russia. Congrats to all those who had Feb 5 in the pool.

As some attacked idea of liberals rooting for a team from a Red State, can we remember that #JimmyCarter is from Georgia. #Falcons #Superbowl

Just guessing we can add #MelissaMcCarthy to list of actors who won’t be invited to any Trump state dinners.

No tweets from the President over last night’s @SNL. Is @realDonaldTrump sick? Or did someone hide his phone?

Protest in Palm Beach last  night were nonviolent but apparently disturbing to Trump at his Florida gala tonight titled “Vienna to Versailles’
Not perhaps as disturbing as it might have been had the President read his history on Versailles.

From Marc Ragovin  “President Trump just congratulated the New Jersey Generals on winning their eighth Super Bowl.”

Super Bowl Eve.

CBS expects record viewers for the Super Bowl this year. The audience will be boosted by two factors: one, many Americans can’t afford to go do anything else. two, in the Philadelphia-DC area everyone is snowed in and can’t go do anything else.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goddell says that the league has no plans to change the overtime rule, saying that the two playoff games that went to overtime were ” maybe two of the most exciting games we’ve ever had.” But exciting doesn’t necessarily mean fair to both sides. Think of how many people go to bullfights.

Jim Barach also had a thought about the 13 year old football player who has committed to play at USC starting in 2015. He says the hardest part is waiting until he is 16 to get a license to drive his new Mercedes Benz convertible.

But I am trying to be fair to the Trojans. Really, they don’t give all their players Mercedes Benz convertibles. These days it’s all about SUVs.

The Texas men’s basketball team has lost 4 of 6 since being ranked #1, the school’s football team lost any chance for a national championship when Colt McCoy was injured, and the Cowboys were decisively knocked out of the playoffs. Last time the state had a month this bad, an Alamo was involved.

It’s also hard to remember a month that was so disappointing to Texas sports fans without the Rangers even playing.

Stanford men’s basketball continued their road woes as they continued their perfect winless Pac 10 season away from home, losing 54 to 49 to USC.

If they wanted to at least salvage something positive for the environment out of this season, maybe they could just forfeit the rest of their road games and save the fuel?

Commie pinko time.

So this week Scott Brown was sworn in as the 41st Republican senator, which may effectively kill healthcare reform. Also, this week, Anthem-Blue Cross, the largest health insurer in California, sent a notice to individual policyholders announcing a rate hike of up to 39 percent. Coincidence?

At the Tea Party Convention at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville,” Sarah Palin said “It’s so inspiring to see real people come out, stand up and speak out for common sense conservative principles.” Well, yeah, real people who could afford $549 for the convention ticket plus travel and lodging.

Another brief pre-inaugural post…

January 18, 2009

It’s a party atmosphere in Washington D.C. this weekend. But Republicans are scarcer than US Airways executives at a fundraiser for the Audubon society.

So what’s rarer now – an actual Cardinal in Arizona, or a steelworker in Pittsburgh?

And for all high school quarterbacks making decisions on college and thinking that for their football careers they need to go to the highest profile Division 1 school available…. may I present – the Northern Iowa vs. Miami (of Ohio) Super Bowl.. Yep, the alma maters of Kurt Warner and Ben Roethlisberger …

This Super Bowl matchup is making television executives think back longingly to that marquee World Series with the Rays and Phillies.

But kudos to Kurt Warner. The only downside, he will have to cancel his taping of that “Where are they now?” episode.
