Stumbling towards fall

October 4, 2025

So is anyone outside Los Angeles or Philadelphia rooting for the Dodgers or Phillies?

Although if you need a team to root for and are looking for a reason -if the Toronto Blue Jays win, pretty sure they are NOT going to the White House

And here most of us thought the most outrageously bad and embarassing moment of Mark Sanchez’s life was going to be that butt fumble….

So for those in the back, or who just watch Fox News. During this Trump shutdown- Hundreds of thousands of essential government workers are working without pay. Just over a couple hundred GOP House members are being paid and not working.

“Trump” on SNL Cold Open.. We’re facing the greatest threat to America – “late night TV.” Would be funnier if not so true. SNL is not genuflecting. Too soon to start the pool on when Donald will call for the show to be canceled?

Since she’s upset about Bad Bunny, Kristi Noem now says ICE wlll be ‘All Over’ the Super Bowl in Santa Clara, CA .

Median Super Bowl ticket price is usually well over $6,000.

And most of the billionaires in Silicon Valley were themselves immigrants. – Assume they have security. But will ICE try to go after other startup owners now? –

And maybe try San Jose Airport for those Russian and mideast Oligarchs with private planes?

As Trump and his reality host DOD Secretary blow up yet another Venezuelan boat, telling us they are drug traffickers, remember, they told us anyone with tattoos was a gang member. And sent a gay makeup artist to El Salvador to be tortured accordingly

On top of everything else, anyone else think Trump enjoys watching what are basically snuff films with these little boats he’s attacking?

How long until Trump pardons Diddy?

If you’re suffering for any reason now during shutdown – being laid off, not being paid, not getting needed benefits, Mike Johnson thinks it’s “fun.” “Is he trolling the Democrats? Yes. I mean, yes, because that’s what President Trump does & people are having fun with this.”

Plus ca change…

Four days off and the post-All Star break SF Giants look a lot like the pre-All Star Break SF Giants.

Friday 0-9 with runners in scoring position…

As a few people said,Friday – 11 hits no runs, they scored as many runs today as they scored all week..

And then Saturday 3 runs on 3 hits.

Silver lining about the Toronto Blue Jays wins over SF Giants. In the AL East, the Blue Jays are leading the NY Yankees.

Due to a provision in Trump’s Big Beautiful Betrayal, many visitors including tourists to the United States will now have to pay a “visa integrity fee,” of $250.00. There are exemptions for Canada and countries in the Visa Waiver Program (which includes much of Europe, some countries in Asia, Australia and New Zealand..) And Qatar (thanks for the plane)

Hardest hit… visitors from Africa and South America. Just in time for the Olympics and the World Cup.

And folks, does anyone think US travelers won’t face reciprocal fees? Or hassles?

Fox News obsesses on daily basis in headlines about whether Biden’s signatures as President were faked. But while Epstein birthday card is biggest political story of the week they won’t even touch subject, even to question if it’s real. (More confirmation that Donald wrote it.)

Whatever you think of Rupert Murdoch, the man is not stupid. Does anyone think Murdoch doesn’t have receipts?

Daily Mail reporting “Bill Clinton wrote ‘warm & gushing’ letter included in Jeffrey Epstein’s infamous 50th ‘birthday book.” If files show Clinton guilty of being a client, as long-time supporter of the ex-President, will say Bill should go to prison. Sad but not difficult

Trump has filed a lawsuit against the WSJ over the Epstein Birthday card… Discovery is gonna be a b*tch.

CNN sanewashing CBS on cancelling Colbert Late Show “It was an “agonizing decision.”

CBS insiders insist that the move was financially driven, not politically motivated. And anyone believes the network of Jake Tapper & Scott Jennings why?

Just a thought If we all tune in and help Stephen Colbert’s ratings skyrocket from now until May (while avoiding CBS otherwise), it may not change the network’s craven mind.

But it might convince another network to pick The Late Show up.

The bling’s the thing

Remember as you watch Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez spend more money on their wedding than most Americans, even most American families, make in a lifetime. that the main goal of the Big Beautiful Betrayal is to give people like them tax cuts.

And again, I don’t begrudge Jeff spending his billions on whatever he wants. I DO begrudge GOP slashing Medicaid, SNAP & public broadcasting to pay for him getting another tax cut. #BigBeautifulBetrayal

So SCOTUS says parents with religious objections can ban books from schools. Does that mean non-Christians can get schools to ban books about Christmas?

Or Christian Scientiss can get schools to ban books about doctors?

Senator Ron Johnson wants to run GOP Big Beautiful Betrayal Bill through AI…

Give me a bleeping break. I’m in the travel business. We know that AI isn’t even good enough now to safely plan a trip without errors… and Ron thinks it’s good enough to legislate with

Dear Wisconsin, how could you have elected the great Tammy Baldwin but also him?

Meanwhile I LOVE Jasmine Crockett:

“Let me tell you how you receive an Einstein visa,” You’re supposed to have some sort of significant achievement, like being awarded a Nobel Peace Prize or a Pulitzer; being an Olympic medalist; or having other sustained extraordinary abilities and success in sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics. Last time I checked the first lady had none of those accolades under her belt.”

At the Kennedy Center this year the National Symphony is performing “Dolly Parton’s Threads: My Songs in Symphony.” Dolly Parton herself will not be there. A subtle middle finger from a wonderful woman to dear leader?

If you find Jeff Bezos’s mega million $$ second wedding ceremony to be obscene may I suggest a simple but real way of registering your opinion?

Buy at least one thing this week you were going to buy on Amazon from a local merchant, or at least a small business.

CNN headline: “Trump employs a familiar tactic on Iran. Iran’s nuclear program may or may not be ‘obliterated.’ But president wants world to believe that because it suits his political needs.” They are afraid to say “Trump is probably lying to claim a win that doesn’t exist.”

Here’s a wild stat. New Orleans has picked up more snow than Philadelphia this year, while Philadelphia along with many other major cities along the East Coast have been hotter than New Orleans. Yikes!

But there’s no climate change…

Rich get richer

Nothing against the Knicks but seeing how much ESPN, the NBA and most media are rooting for New York in the finals, got to be cheering for the Pacers. Oklahoma City, Indianapolis and Minneapolis together don’t quite have 2 million population.

The 10 FBS commissioners & Notre Dame AD Pete Bevacqua, the CFP’s management committee, said they are moving to a straight playoff seeding model this fall, giving the committee’s top four teams the top four seeds and a first-round bye. (Instead of giving those spots to the four top ranked conference winners.)

The change benefits Notre Dame and the SEC. What took them so long?

Colorado Rockies have fallen to 8-42 — now the worst start of a year since 1895.

Watching the headlines since January 20, 2025, is it time to name the Rockies “America’s team?”

Why are media going so hard now against Biden?

Seems to me answer is simple: Their normalizing Trump & both-sides-ism last year really helped Donald get reelected. Easier to blame Joe than to accept blame for the disaster for America that is Velveeta Voldemort’s second term.

Trump plays a faked video and lies about white Genocide in South Africa. Posting pictures from the Congo as being in South African among other things.

Meanwhile Fox Faux News presents this all as fact. “HAPPENING NOW: Trump confronts South African president with video on treatment of White farmers.”

State TV has arrived.

As GOP goes nuclear on the filibuster to pass a law against California’s Clean Air act, imagine how they’ll react if when Democrats get power again Senate dems use the same trick to go after, for example, red-state anti-abortion laws?

Defunding Planned Parenthood doesn’t save lives.

Many poor women not only won’t be able to get birth control, or STD testing, they won’t get wellness checks or cancer screenings. & if women get pregnant, GOP just made it harder for them to get Medicaid & SNAP. Pro life my ass

For purposes of Medicaid/SNAP work requirement GOP is dropping age of dependent children whose parents must work to 7. Yes, seven. Of course if you leave a seven year old home alone or even let them walk home from school alone you’ll probably be arrested for child endangerment.

If you needed any more proof of how awful Jake Tapper’s book is, Press Secretary Barbie (AKA Caroline Leavitt was praising it today.

Meanwhile CNN increasingly focuses less on news and more on hyping their colleague’s book. They’re going to need to change their name from CNN to CCN – Change Channel Network

Should be a bigger story.

Democratic Rep. Sylvester Turner, who was only 70, passed away, March 2. Greg Abbott refused to call a special election until Nov 4, so district will not have a representative for most of 2025. GOP & Trump’s bloated ugly bill passed by ONE vote.-

Supposedly this bill from hell has $1000 for babies born to US Citizens going into “Trump accounts.” To encourage people having babies. ” The average cost of infant care in the US is over $1000 for ONE MONTH.

Colorado Democratic Rep Joe Neguse makes simple point on bill hearing that started at 1am. What’s the urgency that it couldn’t have started at 6a, 7a? The only reason to debate this Bloated Ugly bill in middle of the night is that GOP hopes Americans never find out what they are doing.

GOP Press conference boasting about the big ugly bill they passed by one vote looks like a polar bear conference, only whiter.

Cold comfort

Jerry Jones is a Trump supporter. Has the Cowboys owner filed to overturn the score of the Dallas game against the Green Bay Packers yet?

Donald Trump got 56,260 total votes Monday night in Iowa.

To put this in perspective, 70,040 fans showed up in worse conditions in Buffalo for a football game. #BillsMafia

Rachel Maddow is a Stanford University graduate with a PhD from Oxford. Sean Hannity didn’t graduate from NYU and has an honorary degree from Liberty University. And Hannity called Maddow a “make believe journalist.” Wow. Is Sean auditioning to host SNL?

Nikki Haley, 3rd in Iowa, pulled out of next GOP debate next week with Ron DeSantis, saying her next debate will only be with Donald Trump or with Joe Biden

Ron DeSantis fired back. “The reality is that she is not running for the nomination, she’s running to be Trump’s VP.”

I cannot stand DeSantis, but even a stopped clock…

Meanwhile Shouldn’t Dean Phillips’ 15 minutes be over? #DropOutDean

And in Florida, where Governor DeSants hasn’t been for most of the last year, Democrat Tom Keen flipped what had been a Republican seat in Central Florida in a special election held Tuesday for state House District 35.

Wait, what? Just saw this tonight. “Bipartisan tax deal to expand child tax credit.” From Dem Sen. Ron Wyden & GOP Rep. Jason Smith -“Tax Relief for American Families & Workers Act of 2024.”” Seems like much bigger deal than circus in Iowa.

Love local newspapers, but some papers we only want short-term, for vacations, politics, sports, etc. Wish there was option, $5-10-25 dollars or so to sign up for month, without automatic renewal which can be maddening.. I for one would be happy to give local paper that money.
