Returning the favor

September 25, 2025

After the St Louis Cardinals eliminated the SF Giants from post-season contention, the SF Giants did the the same to the Cardinals today.

Not that either at this point were over 1-2% “So you’re saying there’s a chance…”

Tyler Rogers was traded from the SF Giants to the Mets at the end of July

And he STILL leads the Giants in “holds” for 2025 with 20.

No one else is close (Rodriguez had 13, Miller had 10.)

Meanwhile, this SI headline “Tom Brady Has Had Enough of the ‘Paranoid and Distrustful’ Who Claim He Has a Conflict of Interest.” (In being a minority Raiders owner & a broadcaster) And why should anyone not believe the HOF QB suspended over “deflategate?””

GOP leader John Thune says Democrats demands are “unhinged.” It’s unhinged to care about healthcare for millions of Americans? It’s unhinged to want to stop President from taking away money Congress has approved? Okay then. When someone tells you who they are, believe them

Okay, who had this Fox News headline on their batsh*t bingo card? “Secret Service investigating after president, first lady forced to walk up escalator.”

Joe Biden is 82 years old. If the escalator broke while he was in the UN, he and Jill would have just laughed and quietly walked up the stairs.

So is Trump actually trying to turn the UN escalator into a Reichstag Fire moment?

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz yesterday on Donald’s rant “Not only do they need to be fired, they need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. It’s a miracle the President ever made it up the stairs.”

Before I started paying attention to Amy Klobuchar I was not familiar with “Minnesota nice” snark. But it’s an art form. Thank you Governor Walz.

Went to high school near Orlando, and our congressman was Richard Kelly. He’s notable now only as GOP congressman convicted of taking bribes in 1980 Abscam scandal. Kelly was before his time. These days Trump would promote him.

Jimmy Kimmel’s return last night was his most-watched monologue ever. Wonder how many viewers watched the show on Youtube for the first time? Sinclair may inadvertently have accelerated an increasing American exit from broadcast television.

Can’t be the only person who has watched Jimmy Kimmel more in last two days than like ever…

High Gatorade mark…

September 16, 2025

On Friday night Sept 12, the SF Giants beat the LA Dodges with a walkoff grand slam by Patrick Bailey.

They haven’t won since.

Meanwhile, in the NFL, there is controversy over Fox News broadcaster and Oakland Raiders part owner Tom Brady sitting in the coaching booth for games, and getting potential inside information before pre-games that could benefit his team..

The man who got the benefit of most NFL calls on the field might now be getting preferential treatment and inside information as an owner? I am shocked, shocked…

As we remember Robert Redford in “All the President’s Men,” remember that Richard Nixon was openly hostile to the Washington Post, but publisher Katharine Graham refused to bow to him. Jeff Bezos, you’re no Katharine Graham.

As Trump visits Great Britain… A YouGov poll in July found 16% of Britons surveyed say they have a positive view of him…. That high?

“I’ve never loved my country more desperately. God Bless America.” Stephen Colbert, accepting his Emmy award.

·

RIP Robert Redford. This exchange from “The Way We Were” always stuck with me. Hubbell, “I don’t see how you can do it.” Katie “And I don’t see how you can’t” Worth watching if you haven’t seen it, or if you have forgotten. Set partly during the McCarthy era…

NY Times, once again with a headline that is, to say the least, understated. “In an Era of Deep Polarization, Unity Is Not Trump’s Mission President Trump does not subscribe to the traditional notion of being president for all Americans.”

=

MSNBC reporting that ICE came into Hyundai plant with warrants for four Hispanic men. And left with almost 500 handcuffed & shackled South Korean men. Men now complaining about really bad treatment… Why would ANY foreign government consider building a plant now in USA?

So are any of the big law firms who genuflected before Velveeta Voldemort now being asked to donate legal services to his efforts to sue the NY Times? Asking for a country who would really like to see the release of the Epstein files.

Molly Ivins was one of my heroes. While liberal she believed in free speech. Left half her estate to the ACLU.

Can still remember meeting her in 1993 at Printer’s Ink in Palo Alto and hearing her say “Ya’ll think free speech is easy. It’s not. If you believe in it you have to believe in free speech for Skokie neoNazis.”

Trump fundraising email today:

“The Radical Left wants one thing & one thing only: TO IMPEACH ME AND REMOVE ME FROM OFFICE LIKE A DOG!”

1. Liberals want many things, healthcare, education, vaccines, food security, clean air/water etc…

2. But on a simpler note, he uses “dog” like it’s a slur.

Meanwhile, over in England, Queen Camilla just said she is sick and is avoiding meeting Donald, leaving the duty to her husband.

We are all Camilla.

This was the first weekend of preseason football.

Apparently you could bet on it.

May I respectfully suggest that if you bet on preseason football you might have a gambling problem?

In the “pitchers are athletes” category:

Hall of Fame Closer Mariano Rivera. 55, tore an Achilles tendon while going after a fly ball at the Yankees’ Old-Timers’ Day game on Saturday and needs surgery. #ETTD

So wait, now ICE wants Supreme Court to allow them to stop and question/detain people in the US just for speaking Spanish? Uh, what about going into South Boston and demanding to see documents from everyone speaking with an Irish accent?

When you remodel and are too cheap to hire Four Seasons Landscaping:

Meanwhile, social media report: must admit, I almost thought about not blocking a bot/troll tonight because at least when they posted a nasty misogynistic reply to me they at least used “you’re” (not your) correctly to start the profane insult.

So how much of Alaska will Putin ask for?

Transgender people in sports is a complicated issue.

Transgender people who have served in military between 15 & 18 years is NOT complicated. They’re not “medically unfit. They’ve served US & risked their lives for years.

They’re being kicked out the military for nothing involving their service. They at least deserve retirement benefits.

Period.

In Atlanta, police officer was murdered today Fox News IS covering story. Sort of. ATLANTA TRAGEDY Pregnant wife left without husband after police officer killed near CDC headquarters Not in Fox Story: Shooter allegedly targeted CDC as he blamed COVID vaccine for illness.

Saturday, reports are that the black police officer was murdered yesterday by a white anti-vax US citizen allegedly trying to shoot up CDC buildings. Story already off front page of Fox News website.

But Fox TOP story Saturday “Ancient space rock blasts through Georgia roof, stuns scientists with its origins.”

NY Times Headline “After Almost Losing Trump, Putin Gets His Ideal Summit.” Fixed it for them. “After Donald made noises about forgetting their deal, Vladimir reminded Velveeta Voldemort who owns him.”

At now FBI director Kash Patel’s confirmation hearing he was questioned by Amy Klobuchar about an enemies list. He angrily said “There is no enemies list. That’s a fabrication.”

Isn’t perjuring yourself at a Senate hearing a fireable offense?

Even if you’re a Republican who voted for Trump. Firing competent FBI agents just because they were assigned to investigate January 6, affects all Americans. This is a gift to potential terrorists.

Dying to own the libs…

If most Americans approve of how you’re governing you don’t need to redraw maps to win… Just saying.

With most Trump appointees as far as how low can you go, to quote Mean Girls ‘The limit does not exist.” So what in the world did Velveeta Voldemort possibly tell now fired IRS Commissioner Billy Long that even Long wouldn’t do?

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem is claiming South Park is “so lazy to just constantly make fun of women for how they look.” South Park is many things, but “lazy?” Though to be fair it probably took less time to make the cartoon, than to do Kristi’s wardrobe and hair extensions.

Remember the OUTRAGE in 2021 when VP Kamala Harris spent about $500 of her own money on really nice cookware in Paris?

Imagine if she’d told Secret Service to raise the water level in a lake so she and her family could kayak.

Gentlemen, lift your umbrellas.

August 3, 2025

MLB’s Bristol Motor Speedway Classic sounded like great made-for-TV event.

Game to be played on the infield & 85,000 tickets sold. And ESPN reported the results of the rain-delayed game. A 4-2 Braves win over the Reds.

Not saying that the rain delay was.. overnight. So yes, a fun game. But also as reminder of why MLB doesn’t have team in Tennessee or North Carolina. (at least w/ outdoor stadium)

The Rockies put closer Seth Halvorsen on the 15th day IL with elbow strain.

Sad but a bit surprising. The 30-80 Rockies HAD a closer?

22 runs for SF Giants against NY Mets iin three games as they win the weekend series 2-1.

And out in the Mets bullpen are some New York relievers saying to new teammate Tyler Rogers…”Uh, didn’t the SF Giants trade you here because they couldn’t hit?

Donald Trump says he will name a new Labor Statistics official in “days” after he fired the last one. Translation, once Velveeta Voldemort has figured out who of his potential candidates will donate – and lie- the most.

NY Times’ Peter Baker “Trump’s war on facts has reached a new level and the message is clear: Government officials who deal in data now fear they have to toe the line and adopt his version of reality no matter how false or risk losing their job.”

If only Baker worked for a newspaper who had the power to expose Velveeta Voldemort’s insanity instead of sanewashing him.

And yes, actual NY Times headline this weekend

“Trump’s Efforts to Control Information Echo an Authoritarian Playbook.” Says the newspaper that regularly bends the knee to sanewash Donald for access.

And one more

Really NY Times? This headline “Lashing Out Over Russia and Jobs Data, Trump Displays His Volatile Side.” “Volatile SIDE?” When it comes to volatility, Trump is a mobius strip.

“They’ve wanted a ballroom at the White House for more than 150 years.” Can anyone seriously give me an example of who “they” are? Other than the voices in Velveeta Voldemort’s head?

How long until ALL reports dealing with the economy will be delivered by Karoline Leavitt and written in Sharpie?

Senator Alex Padilla is correct: “If Republicans were confident on their policy agenda, they’d be eager to defend it with the people and to defend at the ballot box next November.

You don’t need to gerrymander when voters actually like what you are doing.

Pretty clear Donald wants to turn the White House into a tacky American version of Versailles. Does anyone think Velveeta Voldemort knows what happened to the last King to live at Versailles?

Fox News is all about fear

And they’re headlne is still headlining a drunken brawl in Cincinnati where nobody died.

Meanwhile, crickets on 4 murdered in Montana. Police looking for 45-year-old Michael Paul Brown, a US army veteran. Yes, the suspect is white.

Dogged days.

August 1, 2025

Colorado Rockies down 9-0 in the 1st against the Pirates, then down 16-10 in the 8th.

And the Rockies win, 17-10.

I remember Little League games like this. Especially in tournaments when teams run out of pitching.

Was crushed to see the SF Giants trade Tyler Rogers, my favorite Giants pitcher.

Was less crushed to put it mildly to see them trade Camilo Doval. Yankees fans tonight may understand why.

My post from yesterday: “Biggest headcase, brightest lights. What could possibly go wrong? (Wishing now former SF Giants pitcher Camilo Doval well, especially now that he is some other fans’ problem.)”

Small detail in the controversy over renaming the Opera House at the Kennedy Center for Trump’s current wife. Melania is his THIRD wife.

Not exactly Christian family values. Though suppose it is operatic.

In 2024, Donald Trump made murder of NYPD’s Jonathan Diller during a traffic stop part of his Presidential campaign and attended the officer’s wake.

In 2025, let alone not attending the funeral he hasn’t even mentioned murdered NYPD officer’s Didarul Islam’s name. I wonder why.

Jobs numbers not only bad for July, but down 258,000 from June and July.

Increasingly convinced they are cooking the books on inflation too. The numbers don’t match grocery store receipts.

What’s next, Trump going to fire whoever reports how many Americans apply for SNAP and other food assistance.

Posted this on Twitter

A very very bad jobs report – “much weaker than expected.” AND previous months have been revised drastically downward. 258,000 for May and June less than reported. What’s Velveeta Voldemort doing to do about it? Fire the people who compile the data?

·It only took 2 hours…

Meanwhie, not making this up : Trump in a Newsmax interview on Karoline Leavitt: “She’s become a star. It’s that face. It’s that brain. It’s those lips. The way they move.”

“If she weren’t my 27 year old married press secretary maybe I’d be dating her..?”

(seriously not going to post it but if you’ve seen the interview…. he draws out “lips” – In many companies someone would be fired for that sort of sexual innuendo towards an employee)

For all the excuses Texas Republicans are using today to pretend their redistricting isn’t about getting more GOP House seats by disenfranchising minorities, no one is even trying to pretend the only “emergency” isn’t that Trump told them to do it. I miss Molly Ivins.

BLS Commissioner Erika McEntarfar, who Trump is trying to fire for telling the truth about jobs was confirmed in the Senate in January 2024 by a vote of 86-8 – including then Senator JD Vance.

Wonder if a single Republican who voted for her, knowing she was capable, will defend her now?

Press Secretary Barbie Thursday started her press conference saying it is past time for Donald to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Velveeta Voldemort does seem obsessed with that Peace prize. Wonder if they offered to give it to him in exchange for his resignation?

Las Vegas tourism especially has fallen off a cliff.

Down perhaps 15% this summer.

Two reasons. Las Vegas is loved by British and Canadians. Both of whose tourists increasingly aren’t coming to US now And Las Vegas is also loved by middle America. Where residents increasely can’t afford to travel.

Trump lies. The economy dies

Multimillionaire car dealer & now Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno is pontificating today on Senate floor about cost of renovating the Federal Reserve. Funny, he is isn’t saying word one about the $200 million for a White House ballroom no one asked for.

I miss Sherrod Brown

Trump sent letters to 17 of world’s biggest drugmakers demanding lower prices by Sept. “If you refuse, we’ll deploy every tool in our arsenal to protect American families from abusive drug pricing practices.” Every tool in our arsenal?

Translation, Donald will demand a bribe.

Trump had posted that the August 1 trade deadline “will not be extended.” He is now giving Mexico a 90 day extension. It’s breakfast TACO time.

Meanwhile with tariffs announced at 39% on Switzerland, how many luxury gold watches will it take for Velveeta Voldemort to reduce them?

Independence from what?

July 5, 2025

First a random reminder why baseball is the best game for sanity.

Even on a night when “your” team has a bad night, there is usually another team that has it worse

Giants lost 11-2 on Friday night to the Athletics

Dodgers lost 18-1 to the Dodgers.

My cover picture on Twitter/FB seems especially apt this weekend: For those who don’t know. Cecile Richards was daughter of Ann Richards, former Gov. of Texas. Cecile was head of Planned Parenthood. She died in early 2025 from same brain cancer that killed John McCain. “Everything we could….”

Paved over rose garden.

Giant flagpoles.

UFC fights

Can we start calling it the White Trash House?

John McCain would have voted no on the Big Beautiful Betrayal. I hope his memory shames Republican Senators today.

As Velveeta Voldemort talks about potential third terms, your reminder, Barack Obama is only 63 years old. I’d vote for him again! Who else?

Not quite, CNN

This is their headline: “Social Security Administration email about bill is unusual, analysts say.” How about the truth: “Social Security Administration email about bill is dishonest and misleading.”

What happened to ending the war on day one? “Trump on if he can end fighting in Ukraine: ‘I don’t know’

Texas gave Donald more electoral votes than any other state. It took over 24 hours for Velveeta Voldemort publicly expressing sympathy for 25+ flooding deaths in Kerr County & over 20 girls missing…. Thinking Trump didn’t want deaths to take away from his 4th of July celebratory bill signing.

#Monster

Not enough that they’ve put up a concentration camp, the Florida GOP is actually fundraising by selling Alligator Alcatraz merchandise.

There is no bottom:

One big issue w/ safety regulations, weather warnings, vaccines, etc, is only time you know you haven’t done enough is when things go really badly. Yes, you can overdo it. But Democrats overall would rather err on side of caution. GOP overall would rather leave us on our own.

Rich get richer

March 31, 2025

Both March Madness final fours are set.

And U Conn, a #2 seed, is the closest thing to a Cinderella left in the tournament.

All four mens teams and three of the other four women’s teams are #1 seeds.

Owner John Fisher could have had the As play in Oakland until if and when the Las Vegas stadium is built. Instead, he insisted the team move to the 14,000 capacity Sutter Heath Field in Sacramento.

Where it will be triple digit temperatures for much of the summer.

In a likely metaphor for the season, the A’s lost their season home opener, 18 to 3.

Hey Green Bay Wisconsin. No billionaire could pay you enough to root against the Packers. Why would you let a billionaire buy your Supreme Court vote?

Serious thought. Can believe Trump absolutely has no plans to leave the White House after his second term. But if he has dementia, as his father did, it will get worse and impossible to ignore before 2028. Then what?

Media: Democrats really need to do a better job of getting their message out.

Also media: Oooh, Velveeta Voldemort or his top campaign donor said something insane, let’s devote all our airtime/space to covering it.

Chris Murphy and Andy Kim (so far) joining Cory Booker tonight on Senate floor as Senator Booker continues his speech into the night to protest Trump/Doge administration policies. It’s not that we don’t have good Democratic leaders. But they don’t get the coverage that the other side’s crazies get.

Cory Booker’s been speaking for over 7 hrs & he’s doing far better job of explaining why Social Security is NOT a Ponzi scheme than Musk does at any time lying about it. Put simply, Booker is explaining how every insurance needs adjustments. & changes needed would be negligible.

The heat is on

March 8, 2025

The formerly Oakland now Sacramento A’s announced a three-year agreement Friday with Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority as its official travel partner. A’s players will wear a patch with Las Vegas’ official logo on their left sleeves to remind fans of their upcoming movie in 2028

When it’s 100 degrees in Sacramento this summer am sure baseball fans will be thrilled to imagine that eventually they can travel to watch their team in Las Vegas where it can get to over 110.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent defended tariffs, arguing that “access to cheap goods is not the essence of the American Dream.”

Scott Bessent’s estimated net worth, over $500 million.

Apparently MAGA unhappy that Amy Coney Barrett has shown signs of independence from Trump are pointing to a story that she had someone from Hamilton sing songs at Ketanji Brown Jackson’s welcome party as proof that Barrett is not a “real” conservative.

How many MAGA know that Scalia and RBG were good friends and went to the opera together?

DonOld reportedly considering moving 35,000 US troops from Germany to Hungary.

The same Hungary that is no longer considered a democracy. Putin must be so proud.

·-

Military now is apparently going to remove pictures of the Enola Gay for violating DEI rules –

Because the plane has “Gay” in its name.

This would be funny if it weren’t our democracy we’re talking about.

What’s now, getting rid of “My Old Kentucky Home?” “It’s summer, the people are gay.” Or “Deck the Halls?” “Don we now our gay apparel.”

If MAGA is so upset about culling chickens with bird flu maybe these chicken farmers ought to sell the dead birds with bird flu to them to eat. The problem could work itself out

When Palo Alto had a major controversy over traffic near downtown, a wise man said “Traffic is anyone but me driving on my block.” Government spending is like that for MAGA “Wasteful spending” is any government spending that doesn’t directly benefit ME.

Stunning to see how many Americans (along w/ bots) now view DOGE hackers as heroes. Will be interesting to see how they feel when repercussions from breaking things affect them personally. Thinking tax refunds, national park vacations, social security checks will start it out.

Per NY Times. DOT Secretary Sean Duffy “said the young staff of Mr. Musk’s team was trying to lay off air traffic controllers. What am I supposed to do? I have multiple plane crashes to deal with now, and your people want me to fire air traffic controllers?”

Trump apparently plans on another travel ban that will include his former list of Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen. Uh, as Donald has alienated most of the free world aren’t many of those countries still the only friends he has left?

So Donald is now attacking the trade deal he claims he himself negotiated with Mexico and Canada. Begging the question? Is it being an evil liar? Or is it dementia?

Stephen Colbert: “Millions of young people cannot stand Elon Musk. And those are just his kids.”

Seemed relevant today.

“Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cannot hear the falconer; Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world.”

Especially as the falconer has probably been fired & rehired twice already since January 20.

WTAF? Troy Edgar, Trump’s choice for DHS Deputy Secretary, talked movingly during confirmation hearing of his wife who fled Iran after Shah was overthrown.

And part of his job at DHS will be to deport similar legal refugees who fled Ukraine, Afghanistan, Haiti, etc.

Make it make sense.

Donald has said he will create a new agency called the External Revenue Service to collect tariffs and there’s been talk he wants it to replace the IRS.

Yeah, that’s going to work real well when he changes his mind every other day on tariffs.

So has President Musk told Trump he can sign a (meaningless) Executive order every day to keep Donold busy?

ETTD?

October 12, 2024

The Detroit Tigers were doing great until Donald Trump came to town.

Undefeated Penn State needed a 14 point rally and a Trojans missed FG in OT to hold on against USC. Previously undefeated Ohio State lost to Oregon

Wonder how the Big Ten feels these days about adding four West Coast schools..

Tom Brady, 47, is expected to be approved now as a minority owner of the Oakland Raiders. Wonder if owning a piece of the team will entitle him to play in a few fourth quarters?

Wrap your head around this. Donald Trump attacks Kamala Harris because as a loyal VP she said she wouldn’t have done anything differently than President Biden. Meanwhile Donald’s own running mate is too scared just to tell the truth that Trump lost the 2020 election.

Why are we surprised that J.D. Vance refuses to say President Biden won the election? You KNOW it was the first question on Velveeta Voldemort’s VP vetting list.

Thinking these days John McCain would be almost as disappointed in his daughter as he would be of Lindsey Graham.

Right wing media loves to dredge up decades-old comments/behavior from politicians.

Fox News et al, you missed one. “I hate the police. Given the number of negative experiences I’ve had in the past few years, I can’t imagine what a black guy goes through.” J.D. Vance, an email to a friend, 2014

‘Chris Christie ” there’s no question that inside my party in particular, there is no longer the water’s edge. Everything is politicized. And when you add to it not only Trump’s willingness but seeming inability to avoid lying about everything — the combination of the two are toxic to the political environment generally, but they are really toxic to the human environment in a disaster.”

So uh Chris, why not endorse Kamala?

Four days since the story broke (and was confirmed by the Kremlin), that Donald Trump sent scarce COVID testing machines in early 2020 to Vladmir Putin.

It’s not that Fox News is trying to put a positive spin on the story. They haven’t even mentioned the story.

Forget the controversial CFB Playoff this season. We have a clear (and sweet) bowl winner.

So when Kansas State got that last touchdown to go ahead nine with less than three minutes to go did a Pop Tarts Bowl announcer say that North Carolina State was toasted? #PopTartsBowl

Okay, who had Rutgers being the only New York City area football team not only in the postseason but also with a win? Now all you liars put your hands down. #PinstripeBowl

Okay, who’s going to write the headline? “Nikki Haley’s candidacy, Gone with the Wind.”

Why are we surprised Nikki Haley responded: ““What do you want me to say about slavery?” Her entire weathervane campaign is “What do you want me to say about everything?”

But seriously, running for President is exhausting & hard. Even great candidates can forget names & have verbal stumbles, often with no chance to recover.

Which makes Nikki Haley’s slavery statements so awful. She got 2nd chance, then 3rd. And just made it worse.

When someone tells you who they are….

Senator Tom Cotton actually tweeted today “Civil War started because Americans elected anti-slavery Republican & Democrats revolted…” In 2020 he called slavery “necessary evil upon which the union was built.” He’s a Harvard grad. Cotton is not stupid, but he thinks voters are.

Some said if pro-Palestine protesters really WANTED to lose sympathy of New Yorkers they couldn’t have done much more than make it impossible for travelers & workers to get to JFK Airport after Christmas. And today they block entrance & exits to the World Trade Center Memorial..
