In the opening round of the NCAA tournament Friday in Tampa.

San Diego beat U Conn

Western Kentucky beat Drake

Siena beat Vanderbilt
Villanova beat Clemson

If anyone would have predicted those results earlier the response would have been “Fantasyland is in Orlando.”

But there’s a new game for all those who did have those four winners in their pools: it’s called Liar’s Poker.

NCAA day 2.

Western Kentucky over Drake, Villanova over Clemson,  USD over Connecticut. Siena over Vanderbilt.  Regarding my thought yesterday that Cinderella couldn’t afford gas….well, today apparently she carpooled.

USC and other sad stories

Last fall USC was upset by Stanford in the biggest upset in college football history , Thursday they were knocked out of the NCAA tournament in the first round by 11 seed Kansas State.

The last times the Trojans had a year this bad, a wooden horse was involved.

But except for USC, the first round Thursday had no upsets.   Guess maybe this year Cinderella couldn’t afford to gas up her pumpkin.

On the opening day of the NCAA tournament, Americans in many offices will spend from 900a to 930p trying to look busy but actually accomplishing nothing.

In other words, just like the White House, with longer hours.

Major League Baseball closed down a website selling Obama t-shirts in the typeface of various teams.  In related news, they also closed down a site selling John McCain t-shirts Apparently the site showed him cheering when the Cubs won the World Championship .

Tonight on the Daily Show Jon Stewart said that Barack Obama talked to Americans “as though they were adults.”   Okay, maybe it’s true…maybe Obama is too idealistic to be president.

On the 5th anniversary of the Iraq War

I wrote a version of this joke last year, but…I think over 3990 American deaths since 1993 calls for a repeat:

Why did President Bush  refer to  the beginning of the Iraq War “Shock and Awe?”

Because March Madness was already taken.

More madness…

It’s a great time of year for sports fans in the United States.  Millions are looking forward to March Madness, more millions are looking forward to  Major Leage Baseball opening day, and at least a dozen are looking forward to the NHL Playoffs.

Although who’d a thunk it that we would have an NCAA men’s basketball champion this year before we had a Democratic presidential nominee?

This weeks millions of Americans will try to figure out their choices  to go from 64 down to 2.  And after they decide about financial institution stocks,, they can work on their brackets.

And just a random thought…maybe Ronald Reagan wasn’t so crazy after all to call himself a Christian but not attend church.

 –

Though Barack Obama may actually get some unexpected sympathy from many church goers…as in “the media really belives that people listen to sermons?”

Wishful thinking..

Despite trailing in the popular vote and in pledged delegates, as spring approaches Hillary Clinton still appears sure she can win it all.

Well, she did grow up a Cubs fan…

And today the NCAA tournament committee picked the 64, well 65 actually top college teams in the country.    Among the snubbed teams who really felt they were good enough  to make it were the Virginia Tech Hokies, the Arizona State Sun Devils, and the New York Knicks.

Wisconsin 51, Michigan 34

Yes, an actual final score from the Big Ten men’s basketball tournament.

Michigan’s shooting was so bad, you have to wonder if Dick Cheney was involved.

But still, it’s amazing to win with 51.  Or as President Bush calls it “a landslide.”

This next joke is tacky and at least PG 13 rated…

Eliot Spitzer has long had the reputation of a moral anti-crime crusader.

But now with the recent prostitute story, and the revelation that he didn’t like condoms, will he go down in history as the “Uncaped Crusader?”

Bracket time..

And by the way, Ron Paul, the last remaining Republican challenger to John McCain, officially folded his campaign last week.  But be honest now, how many of you had McCain, Paul, Clinton and Obama as your final four?

Arizona still has a good chance of going to the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, despite a sub .500 record in the Pac 10.  Since when does a sub .500 record reward you with post season play?  Well, outside of the NBA Eastern Conference…

Question about the Michigan primary

After the Democratic National Committee voted to strip Michigan of its delegates for illegally scheduling their primary too early,  only Hillary Clinton among the major candidates kept her name on the ballot.

Obama supporters only were able to vote for “uncommitted.”

But if Obama voters are uncommitted.

Does that mean that Hillary voters should be committed?

Yet more Spitzer…

tonight’s entry is NOT pc, apologies in advance.)

The latest story out of NewYork is that Governor Spitzer paid over $80,000 to prostitutes for sex.

Women around the country are outraged, just think what he could have gotten for that amount had he spent it on his wife for jewellry?

Apparently that night in February Spitzer overpaid, and kept a few thousand as a credit.

Which at this point should be worth about as much as a Sharper Image gift certificate.

Even Kobe Bryant is thinking,  man, the fun should be free, you spend the money afterwards. Hey man, want the number of my jeweller?

Down in Los Angeles…

The Dodgers are still selling their right field pavilion all-the-junk-food-you-can-eat tickets for 35.00 advance, 40.00 the day of the game.  The same cost as last year.

So  at least there is one place in Los Angeles the price of gas isn’t skyrocketing.

And Duane Wade will have surgery and so will be done with NBA professional basketball for the year. Besides that,  this season he won’t be able to return to the Heat either.

This just in…

Apparently Spitzer was arranging his tryst with the prostitute in a Washington DC hotel room.

I guess this is what he meant by getting crime out of New York?

Spitzer!

This just in, New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has been overheard during a sting and has admitted involvement with a high level call girl ring.

Good to know our federal wiretapping system is helping to keep Americans safer!

I suppose as an Obama suppose it would be very very wrong of me to hope that he might have been also arranging something for his good friend Bill Clinton?

Another question in a strange year.   Governor Spitzer is a superdelegate and a strong supporter of Hillary Clinton.   Can you be a superdelegate if you have been indicted?

An older woman for Obama, and one more thought on NAFTA…

Hillary Clinton won a narrow victory in the popular vote in Texas, and a larger victory in Ohio.

So last Thursday it snowed in DALLAS,  and Saturday Ohio was hit by a major blizzard.

Does this mean that one older woman who is not supporting Hillary Clinton might be Mother Nature?

And in retrospect, it’s amazing that so much controversy was stirred up last week about NAFTA and… Canada?!!.   Though maybe not so amazing for all those Americans who lost their jobs to Canadians.  Especially all those poor hockey players.

But there are singers and musicians and actors too.  Not to mention that our longest running American game show, Jeopardy, has been in Canadian hands for decades.

Just one question, if we overturn NAFTA can we send Celine Dion back?

Appalling in Pauley…

UCLA’s men’s basketball team has now won two games in a row, against Stanford and Cal,  that they had basically lost without the referees making bad calls.

Who knew that college refs would become the superdelegates of the NCAA?

The movie “10,000 BC” opened number one in theatres this weekend.

Apparently a lot of people are curious about what it was like when John McCain was born.

Obama advisor Samantha Powers had to quit the  campaign after it came out that she called Hillary a “monster” in an interview, even though she thought the reporter had agreed not to print it.

In related news, Bill Clinton is frantically calling journalists to remind them what “off the record” means.

Although this t-shirt is already for sale on Cafe Press : “Monsters gat things done – Hillary 08”

Preventing future SpyGates?

So NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is going to go all out to prevent  future SpyGate scandals.   Wonder if his plan includes putting all NFL teams under strict surveillance?

The following Clinton quote is actually from the New York Times:

Hillary Clinton campaigned in Cheyenne this week,  and while promoting her experience said she had “been in the Oval Office a few times.”

Almost as often as Monica?

Do overs?

The Democrats are grappling with the problem of what to do with the disputed delegates in Michigan and Florida.

In Michigan, the issue is simpler since only Hillary Clinton’s name was on the ballot.  In Florida there are a couple issues, first that all candidates were named on the ballot, second, the request from Miami that any do over this winter also involve the Heat.

The San Francisco Giant’s slogan for 2008 – All out, all season.  It was bad enough that…”all out, all season” could be uncomfortably accurate fto describe the team’s batting, or lack thereof.

But as Noah Lowry joins Omar Vizquel and Ray Durham on the injured list, maybe what they meant was “All out, FOR all  season.”

From my friend Alex Kaseberg..

Wish I had written it.

A key aide for Barack Obama was quoted as calling Hillary Clinton a monster. Hillary was so upset upon hearing this she broke through her chains and stormed the village.

Super headache.

After hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent, and millions of votes have been cast, the Democratic primary could be decided by a group of party leaders and insiders known as “Super delegates.”

It’s hard to do, but by comparison, the Dems could make the BCS look good.

All of these millions of votes could just basically be disregarded?    Don’t we usually invade countries when they do that?

 –

Many people have ideas as how to decide who gets the advantage.  Bud Selig suggests the candidates’ teams play an otherwise meaningless exhibition game.
