Always something to cheer about

SF Giants are off to a lousy start in 2024, and have to wonder if they’re cursed for basically firing the wonderful Renel Brooks-Moon. OTOH, at least baseball fans in the SF Bay Area can enjoy the LA Dodgers losing two of three to the San Diego Padres. #smallmercies

The Los Angeles Clippers give all fans a free Chick-Fil-A sandwich if an opposing player misses two consecutive free throws in the 4th quarter. When Houston Rocket’s Boban Marjanović, with his team well ahead, figured that out he deliberately missed a second free throw.

Massive cheers from the fans and the announcers. Hope he didn’t affect the betting spread.

Two of NBA’s biggest stars – LeBron James and Steph Curry will be both be playing in the Western Conference NBA play-in round. And if Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans play well they could both be gone before the real playoffs start.

Not that James and Curry aren’t capable of leading their teams to victories. But will be very interesting to see how those games are officiated.

As GOP tries using the Comstock Act to stop mifepristone from being sent through the mail, trying to imagine if Democrats found a judge willing to put the same restrictions on Viagra.

Michael Che on SNL Weekend Update “Speaker Mike Johnson traveled to Mar-A-Lago to meet with Donald Trump. “And boy is his jaw tired…”

In California, Google has started blocking some local news as a threat to the legislature which is considering a Journalism Preservation Act, similar to a bipartisan national bill from Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar and Republican Senator John Kennedy.

As Klobuchar said, “Local newspapers are going out of business while Big Tech makes record profits off news content.” Yep, Google revenue in 2023 was a record over $300 BILLION.

Gordon Gecko would be proud.

What’s wrong with US media. Minnesota Senator Tina Smith, former Planned Parenthood executive, on ABC’s This Week talked about abortion rights, including mifepristone & praised Joe Biden’s efforts for women.

Crickets from most of media. Marge Three Names opens her mouth & it’s a headline.

Kari Lake, a proponent of a national abortion ban in 2022 when she ran for Governor, has now done a 180 and claims she’s for a more moderate policy.

Of course, if she somehow got elected to the US Senate she’d do another 180 and vote for a ban.

Chris Sununu makes Susan Collins look good.

(ICYMI, Sununu was for Nikki Haley, almost a “never trumper” but he’s now genuflecting before Orange Jesus.)

WTAF? Marco Rubio – “I for one am prepared to help Ukraine, but want to see us deal w/ southern border. That was the negotiation, the talk, the agreement. It was going to happen & it didn’t happen.”

It didn’t happen because TRUMP torpedoed GOP Senator Lankford’s bipartisan bill. #NoShame
