Senate votes 64-19 just before 8p Friday night o proceed to consideration of the foreign aid bill. Which means that the Senate can begin debate on the bill.

How many GOP cowards took off for the weekend already. Anyone seen Ted Cruz?

After some GOP now demanded border legislation again along with foreign aid,… Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz “The Republicans wanted something and then decided that they didn’t want that thing. Now some of them want it again, and I think the adults are just moving on.”

Not that long ago it seemed like the economy was top story with national media. And why Biden hadn’t done enough to make things better.

Today the S&P closed above 5,000 for the first time. Anyone heard that touted nationally as “breaking news?” Me neither.

(And yes, I know. Or rather my late father used to say regularly, the stock market is not the economy. But media would be and has been, all over stock market fall.)

There are some tickets going for really high prices on Sunday.

Not just that game in Las Vegas. But when Iowa’s women’s basketball plays Nebraska on Sunday, Caitlin Clark is only 39 points away from the all-time women’s college basketball scoring record.

Ticket prices range from about $150 to over $1000…

No guarantees. Clark might not break the record until Iowa’s home game February 15 against Michigan. But unlike the Super Bowl, when she does, it won’t be an event repeated next year.

Due to bad weather in the San Francisco Bay Area delaying and canceling flights it took some media folks longer to fly to Las Vegas, normally about 90 minutes, than it took others to drive (by car it takes about 8 hours)  Normally the only thing that wastes an entire day at a time this week involves a Super Bowl pre-game show.

So now that the flag football is out of the way, what’s the NFL going to do to keep getting headlines the rest of the week?

GOP House new proposed law makes someone convicted of even or charged with DUI not only deportable but inadmissable from USA. So if other countries say someone convicted or charged with crime is inadmissable, gonna make it real hard for Trump if re-elected to go to most summits.

Tom Cotton went to Harvard and served in US Military. Pretty sure he knows that Singapore, one of the most capitalist countries in the world, is not China. But he’s hoping GOP voters don’t.

So the Super Bowl has ended up between 49ers from liberal San Francisco Bay Area and the Chiefs with Taylor Swift as one of the their biggest fans.

Does this mean MAGA Trump supporters will boycott the game?

In the first half of NFC Championship, sure looked like the Lions were ready for the biggest stage. In the second half it looks like Detroit’s first rodeo.

Small mercies:

Well, if Detroit Lions fans bought airline tickets to Las Vegas at halftime at least now all tickets can be canceled without penalty for 24 hours.

Maybe the Detroit Lions will get a consoling phone call from the 2016-2017 Atlanta Falcons.

Either the San Francisco 49ers lucky escape comeback win against the Green Bay Packers means they are finally battle tested and gave them the experience they needed to compete in the Super Bowl.

Remembering 2020 Iowa caucuses. One time I was especially impressed with Amy Klobuchar was, on shoe-string budget, while national media waited all night for final counts that never came, she took advantage of their boredom & called in; got free airtime to talk about her campaign.

Shame none of the media called her tonight. Klobuchar could have made it far more interesting with memories of 2020, or talking about Biden accomplishments, than what was apparently just nonstop rehashing of Iowa GOP primary voters doing exactly what the polls said they would do.

Nikki Haley says “if it’s Trump-Biden rematch, it’s going to be another toss-up election, could go either way, we could have more disputes over election inference…” It wasn’t a toss-up election. Biden won pretty handily. But Nikki can’t say that for fear of upsetting Donald.
