As Stanford plays Saturday Nov 2 against NC State, the Cardinal will now have played two more games against each of teams from North Carolina and Texas than they will have against teams from Calfiornia.

NY Yankees especially in game 5 of the World Series bring to mind a very old joke. What do the NY Yankees and Michael Jackson have in common? They both wore gloves on one hand for no discernible reason.

One brighter note on Dodger victory for anyone outside Los Angeles. The last time they won a World Series, Trump lost a Presidential election. If that’s the devil’s bargain in 2024, I’ll take it.

Why isn’t this a bigger story? Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin wrote the ACA provision to allow young people to stay on their parents health insurance until they are 26.

Her opponent Eric Hovde wants to take that away. “It’s a stupid idea for this reason. All we’re doing is delaying younger people’s maturation. “And they need to grow up and move on and stand on their own two feet.

Of course Hovde is a multi-millionaire. If one of his kids’ had graduated from college and wanted to do an internship or study as a grad student without benefit, he’d either help them with insurance or medical bills.

(Dave McCormick, a hedge fund mega-millionaire has made similar statements. Pretty damn sure his kids have nothing to worry about either.

Give Trump credit for one accomplishment. Gotten me to believe that for all I disagree with her on so many things, Liz Cheney is an admirable and brave patriot.

As we approach final weekend before election, remember, confirmation bias makes it very difficult to change a vote.

Much easier, convincing someone not planning to vote that their vote matters. If our votes didn’t matter, GOP wouldn’t be trying so hard to take them away.

(For that matter Ohtani hit .105 in the World Series, but by taking a $2 million contract for 2024, Shohei made sure Dodgers had plenty of money to build a team around him.)

California taxpayers, whether or not you are Dodgers fans, you are sharing in their win…

Shohei Ohtani, who may well return to Japan in a decade, or retire in a state with no income tax, is only being paid $2 million a year until he turns 40 in 2034 (then $68 million a year for 10 years.)

So the state loses out as well as other MLB teams who might benefit from the luxury tax.

Expanded College Football Playoffs, were almost certainly designed to get more SEC teams into college football’s postseason. Or at least SEC and Big Ten plus top former Pac 12 schools.

Now you have undefeated BYU, Pittsburgh and Indiana.

So if you’re not a fan of either team in World Series what a dilemma?

Do you root for a sweep to make the revenue less for MLB which refuses to level the playing field?

Am a San Antonio Spurs fan but it still feels really weird to see Klay Thompson play for the Dallas Mavericks.

Am a New Orleans Saints fan but also a San Antonio Spurs fan so don’t pay that much attention to the NBA Pelicans.

But long time Spurs star Dejounte Murray (who spent two years with the Atlanta Hawks) just had his season opening with the Pelicans. And fractured his hand. Murray will be out for a while.

Saints after a 2-0 start now have what feels like about half their starters injured.

Maybe New Orleans teams need to hire a voodoo queen?

RIP Fernando Valenzuela.

Was a Tigers fan growing up. Fernando’s rookie year in 1981 was before I became an SF GIants fan so I hadn’t yet learned to hate the Dodgers.

It was also poignant as my grandfather in Ridgecrest, Southern California had terminal cancer.

Remember visiting with him and watching “Fernandomania” on TV, and realizing that he would never know what kind of a career this young star would have….

And Fernando was still young. only 63. Carpe Diem..
