Wherefore art thou As?

February 28, 2024

So the A’s are out of their Oakland lease after 2024. Looks like sharing their stadium with the SF Giants isn’t feasible. There are minor league stadiums in Sacramento, Salt Lake City, and Las Vegas.

What about a return to the baseball history days of barnstorming? Not completely kidding. They’d probably draw more around the country at various retired stadiums or AAA ballparks than in Oakland.

Tickets for Iowa women’s season basketball final game now against Ohio State,- with Caitlin Clark poised to break Pete Maravich’s all time college scoring record, start at about $500 to get in the door, with ticket prices going up over $5,000.

For those of us who aren’t going to Iowa, the game will be televised on ESPN.

Love the fact that these ticket prices are higher even than Ohio State football bowl games.

You go girl.

Meanwhile, Susan Collins, on Mitch McConnell, “I felt compelled to thank him for devoting his life to public service for all the right reasons, to improve the lives of people in our great country** Well, unless you’re a woman who counted on reproductive rights. For starters.

Mitch McConnell stepping down almost guarantees a Trump supporter will lead Republicans in the Senate. This would be a great time for Lisa Murkowski to become an independent & work out how to caucus with Democrats. Yes, she’s conservative on most issues, but she’s not crazy.

Remember that old joke about a guy who murdered his parents and asked for sympathy from the court because he was an orphan?

Well, Donald Trump has been delaying his trials for over a year and now wants sympathy from the courts because those trials will be too close to the election.

Brett Kavanaugh on bump stock prohibition on guns: “Even if you’re not aware of legal prohibition, you can be convicted…That’s going to ensnare a lot of people who arent aware of the legal prohibition.” So Brett wants to strike down all laws people can claim to be unaware of?

So MAGA Mike Johnson kicked the can down the road to avoid a government shutdown for another week. If course if the Speaker really gave a damn about keeping the government open he could have cut the House’s two week vacation short.

SCOTUS will somewhat unexpectedly take on Trump immunity case. Unintended consequences? If they rule for absolute Presidential immunity, Joe Biden can claim regardless of the election results, he can stay in White House himself if he feels Trump is threat to our democracy.

In California, voting by mail is straightforward and easy…. they verify signatures & also track your ballot. So far, 6 days before election, fewer than 10% of ballots have been returned, which is considerably lower than average. Hoping for a good election day turnout.

Even in blue state there are close races, We need to do better. VOTE!

Match races

February 28, 2024

Some US media reporting on Biden’s 81% in Michigan vs Trump’s 68% reminds me of an old Soviet Union joke:

A USA car beat a Russia car in a match race. Pravda headline “In race today Russian car came in second. The American car came in next to last.”

Wait, according to Stephen Colbert, Trump says he doesn’t have to post bond “because he’s too rich?” Uh, wasn’t Donald’s conviction for lying and overinflating his assets?

Has any reporter asked a Democrat voting uncommitted in Michigan over Biden not magically getting a ceasefire in Gaza if they really want to return to a President who will reinstitute a Muslim band, plus arrest and even deport protesters?

I’m waiting,

WTF Washington Post headline:

“Biden wins MI primary but faces notable showing by ‘uncommitted. On GOP side, former president Donald Trump continued sweep of early primary contests.”

President Biden – 81.2%, “uncommitted” 13% Trump -68%, Haley 26.7%

Thinking Jeff Bezos really wants his tax cuts?

“House Speaker Mike Johnson said he hoped Congress could avert government shutdown. “We have been working in good faith around-the-clock every single day for months and weeks.” Uh, two weeks ago MAGA Mike sent House home for two week vacation. Does he think we’re that stupid?

Meanwhile in Hawaii, a tourist claiming he wanted to see the sunrise, drove his rental SUV off a cliff on the Big Island – in an area rental car companies tell you not to drive due to poor road conditions and lack of cell service.

He survived with minor injuries.

Thinking someone is lucky to be alive.

And someone is about to learn about those waivers with rental car insurance.

Louisiana Senator John Kennedy talking today about how teenage children are not mature enough to make decisions on gender-affirming care. But he and most of GOP have no problem with saying children are mature enough to become parents if they get pregnant -even by rape or incest.

Mitch McConnell & John Thune, two top-ranked GOP leaders, today yielded to conservatives to call for all Senate to conduct a full trial of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

Maybe Majority Leader Chuck Schumer should schedule trial for nights and weekends.

Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

Trump lawyer badgering Terrence Bradley over him saying Nathan Wade only told him once about dating Fani Willis.

Speaking as a woman who has often talked & joked with others about how little men talk to male friends about anything personal, why is that statement controversial?

From Seth Meyers’ question on his age: “Other guy – he’s about as old as I am, but he can’t remember his wife’s name,” President Biden said, referring to appearance where Trump referred to Melania as “Mercedes.” Can anyone imagine if Joe stumbled over Jill’s name?
