Missed it by that much

My sister, a Minnesota Vikings fan, told me last week after the Vikings hung on to beat the Saints, that a popular t-shirt is “The Vikings almost always almost win.”

In snatching defeat from the jaws of victory against the Broncos, today the VIkings lived up, or rather, down to that slogan.

As a (still first place) Saints fan was nice at least knowing the team couldn’t blow the 4th quarter to the “bye week.” #WhoDat

Meanwhile, big headline about “Ohio State jumping Michigan to be #2 in college football in AP Poll, while the Wolverines fell to #3.

Michigan and Ohio State play next week. If only all controversies were so easy to solve.

“Does technology make us stupid?” (driving edition.)

Drove from Sacramento to Palo Alto today. Because I don’t love often chaotic highway interchanges in California & it was a pretty day to cross the Bay Bridge, I ignored the Google Maps lady to take Highway 80 & 101 the whole day.

Left the sound on for fun, got the voice telling me repeatedly not only just to do the more complicated East Bay routing, but also then to try 280 PLUS go off the highway onto surface streets maybe a dozen times.

I stayed on my planned route. It was simple & great views of SF: 2 hours and 15 minutes

The “faster” routes, at best estimate were 2 hours and 2 minutes….

(Seriously though, how often do the ‘fastest routes’ require so many road changes, each of which is a possibility for a delay or problem. Ditto some of the transit suggestions, which might have two connections where a single connect is almost as fast.)

RIP Rosalynn Carter, 96.. Not unexpected but still sad.

Hard to explain to this generation how groundbreaking (and controversial) it was for Rosalynn Carter as First Lady to be such a close and influential partner for Jimmy.

On junk fees, “Airlines claim ‘it would be too difficult to disclose charges more clearly” Doug Mullen, deputy general counsel at Airlines for America. Uh, airlines can & do change their prices, including for extra legroom etc, every 5 minutes. They don’t WANT to disclose fees.

Inflation at lowest point since 2021, gas prices are falling, unemployment rate has stayed below 4% for longest stretch since 1960s… Wonder how many Americans know these & other Biden positives. Media would rather run stories on Joe’s poll numbers. Competence isn’t clickbait.

Golden showers is trending and not only does everyone on both sides of the aisle instantly know who we’re talking about, he’s the GOP front-runner for the 2024 Presidential nomination. As my late great stepmother used to say “We’re not perfect but they’re nuts.”
